Chapter Eight: [Edited]
Chapter Eight
While sitting on his bed, Jace was texting his father while alone in his bedroom, and while writing a text to his father explaining to him that Jace hasn't been feeling like his normal self since one of his patients had passed away. His parents live south of Baltimore. Jace moved to Baltimore when he decided to become an EMT.
His father Kyle was telling Jace how much he and his mother really miss him and they'd hoped to see him soon for the holidays. Jace wrote back to his father and told him that he missed him as much as they'd missed him, and hoped to see him and his mother for the upcoming holidays. Jace took a deep breath and let out a sigh.
Until Jace puts down his iPhone onto his nightstand and he runs his eyes with his fingers and is beginning to get tired. It was thundering outside and raining. Jace then began to hear screaming in his ears.
Helppp!! helpppp!!
That was exactly what Jace was hearing. Jace doesn't know what is going on with him. First he starts hearing and seeing a girl who is a ghost, as well as getting lightheaded, low blood pressure, feeling sick and weak and as well as something may be causing his symptoms.
The screaming stopped. Then Jace also had another flashback of this building that looked like a psychiatric hospital and then the flashback immediately afterwards had stopped. Jace opened his eyes as he had them close during the flashback and he had to think for a moment.
The very next day, Jace and Alex were together again this time treating a broken arm of a young boy named Lee Hunts who is a ten year old boy who fell off a swing and broke his arm. His mother called for the EMTs and Jace had put Lee in an ambulance and he and Alex were treating Lee's broken arm.
"Okay buddy, try to hold your arm very still. I know it hurts, but just hang tight," says Jace, taking out an ice pack and telling Lee that the ice pack is cold and he gently puts it on Lee's broken and swollen arm.
Lee was being taken to the hospital. Jace takes a deep breath and leans forward while sitting down and he lets out a big sigh. Jace squeezed his eyes shut and rubbed them with his fingers. "I think I'm going to throw up this time," says Jace.
Alex was worried about his partner and he grabbed an emesis bag from the dispenser attached to the wall in the back of the ambulance and then handed the bag over to Jace. Jace grabs the emesis bag from Alex and he was feeling even more nauseous. Jace takes the emesis bag and he leans forward as he's sitting down and he looks down at the emesis bag thinking he's going to throw up.
"Dude, something is obviously wrong with you. I mean you're having all these symptoms, but I think something more serious is making you sick constantly. I mean first you're lightheaded, then your blood pressure is low and stuff," says Alex.
"I don't know. Ever since I started seeing that girl, I'd just been feeling unwell," says Jace.
Alex rolled his eyes and looked at Jace. "Jace, it's just hallucinations. She's not really there," says Alex.
"No Alex. She's been making me sick. I don't know why. I mean ever since she started following me around, watching my every move, I seemed like I was just getting sicker and sicker," says Jace.
"How can a ghost make you sick?" says Alex.
"I don't know. I mean, and I also have been having these flashbacks of this psychiatric hospital and hearing these children screaming for help. Like they were being tortured," says Jace.
"Oh my gosh, Jace," says Alex. "You're just seeing and hearing things that don't make any sense to me," says Alex, once again.
"Alex, I'm not making this stuff up. I swear," says Jace.
"Okay. Your words, not mine. But I'm telling you you're just being paranoid," says Alex.
Jace then felt even more nauseous and he took the nemesis bag and put it closer to his mouth. Jace squeezed his eyes shut as he was trying so hard not to puke. After another day of work, Jace decided to take out his laptop and begin searching for clues. He was looking for answers on why he had been having flashbacks of a psychiatric hospital and experiencing symptoms, as well as seeing a dead girl. Jace was looking for answers on Google.
Jace (as he was scrolling through the internet) was searching for every possible reason why he may be hallucinating and other things. But Jace could not find a single answer. Jace gave up searching the internet after about fifteen minutes of scrolling through every possible article for an answer. Nothing! Jace sighed. He closed his laptop and stood up from his office chair and left the office.
Until Jace was back to sleep that one night, he was having a nightmare. A horrible nightmare. In his dream, he was seeing children being tortured and killed in this psychiatric hospital and he saw the name of the hospital. The name of the psychiatric hospital is called New Eden. Children were screaming, and he saw Aleix being tortured in the hospital. Jace then woke up with a gasp as he opened his eyes and he just lay there in his bed panting, trying to catch his breath. Jace was also sweating.
Jace takes a deep breath and slowly exhales his breath. He leaned up from his bed and rubbed his eyes with his hands. Jace got out of bed and he walked to the bathroom after leaving his bedroom once again.
While Jace was taking to the radio dispatcher in the ambulance while Alex was treating another patient named July Gorse, a young woman who is unconscious after falling from the roof of her house, Jace was giving the radio dispatcher a boral brief and update on July telling the dispatcher through a portable radio that July had fallen from the roof of her home and is unconscious and not responding.
Jace also reported to the dispatcher about the patient's gender and her age, including the unit's identification and the estimated time of arrival.
When someone dials 911, the local ambulance dispatch is not contacted. The majority of 911 calls in the US are routed to state or local police departments or the Highway Patrol.
A dispatcher will put a person on wait and make the call to the local ambulance service after they have explained the emergency. A special 911 line is available to them. After providing the ambulance service operator with a brief overview, they will connect the caller. In just a few seconds to a minute, this takes place.
A 911 unit will then be dispatched by the ambulance dispatcher. These ambulances are positioned in certain areas according to factors including call volume, demographics, geography, and the units that are available during the shift. Jace and Alex had arrived at the hospital once again and July was being treated in the emergency room. Jace and Alex decided to head to lunch together and Jace had ordered a hot dog and Alex ordered a hot dog as well.
When they turned from the food truck, Jace and Alex were discussing whether Jace should see a regular doctor to diagnose his symptoms and what may be causing his symptoms. Jace refused to go to the doctor even though he is a paramedic in training. Jace (as he is walking along with Alex and eating his hot dog) Alex was also eating his hot dog.
"Well at least you're eating, are you still feeling sick?" wondered Alex, while talking with his mouth full. "I have to eat something. I can't just not eat. And Alex, I still think that girl is making me sick for some reason. But the symptoms come and go. And I also this time in my dream I saw the name of the psych ward where these children are being treated like garbage," says Jace.
Alex sighs and rolls his eyes. Alex takes another bite of his hot dog. "Jace," says Alex, chewing with his mouth full. "You're just being paranoid again. I mean, first of all, you could be suffering from hallucinations caused by schizophrenia once again. Feeling lightheaded due to low blood pressure, and Jace, you're probably coming down with something that's causing you feel this way. If you're getting other symptoms, see your primary care physician. I mean, you're just being paranoid," says Alex, before swallowing his food.
The next day, Jace was searching up the New Eden psychiatric hospital on his laptop once again but this time he was sitting on his living room couch. Not much information about the New Eden hospital had come up on the internet. Where could this hospital be and is it still open? Jace sighs. He exits out of Google, and he clears his throat after closing his laptop. Jace closes his eyes and he sees another flashback of these children including Aleix who were being tortured and killed.
But Aleix somehow made it out of the horror alive. Jace opened his eyes and he stood from his couch as he grabbed his laptop all at the same time. Once Jace went back to his office to put his laptop back onto his office desk, he heard a little girl screaming in his ear. Her screaming was super loud, to the point Jace screamed and felt pain in his left ear as he covered his ear with his hand and squeezed his eyes shut.
Jace was definitely not being paranoid. The screams had stopped and Jace opened his eyes before he looked up. Jace wished that Alex would be able to believe him someday. Jace then left his office after plugging his laptop into his charger, he (shortly thereafter) headed to the kitchen to start his dinner.
Jace and Alex had arrived at this scene in Baltimore outside of a bar where this young woman named Casey Chase, who was severely intoxicated. She was vomiting and couldn't stop.
"Hey Miss. Chase, I'm Jace. I am an EMT. What seems to be going on with you?" says Jace, getting out of the ambulance after he pulled up to the bar. Casey was severely drunk. She wasn't with it. The paramedic and Jace and Alex as EMTs both took out the stretcher from the ambulance and Miss. Chase told Jace that she feels like she's gonna puke.
"Okay. Okay. We will give you something for that. But right now my partner and I are gonna help you get on this stretcher," says Jace. Casey nods her head.
"Okay," she says. It was night time and most people like to party heavily at night and be drunk.
Jace thinks Casey had too much to drink and that is why she is feeling really unwell. Jace and Alex went ahead along with the paramedic to help lift Casey from the side of the sidewalk, and eventually Casey sat on the stretcher. After Casey sat on the stretcher, Jace and Alex had taken Casey in the ambulance.
Two hours later after Casey had been taken to the hospital, Jace and Alex were in the ambulance driving around the city of Baltimore. Until Jace spoke into the radio saying, "All right, we are headed to I-95 East in South a Carrol exit for a MVC," says Jace.
Alex sighs as he is driving the ambulance. "So tell me. Are you and Jane ready to get married?" wondering Alex.
"What? We're still too young. I'd probably not know if she's the right one for me and I'm taking things slow. I am in no rush," says Jace.
"Well, I finally asked Kate to be my girlfriend," says Alex.
"Oh. So you finally asked her out. And what did she have to tell you about that?" wondered Jace.
"I mean, she did say yes," says Alex, chuckling.
"Oh okay. Well, I guess you got yourself a girlfriend now," says Jace. Alex chuckled.
"Yeah, I guess," says Alex.
When Jace looked out the window of the ambulance, he noticed the girl who's been haunting him, standing on the side of the freeway. Jace sighed and just sat there in his seat having to think for a moment. Jace closed his eyes and swallowed before opening his eyes once again.
Once Jace and Alex arrived at the scene, Jace couldn't just focus on the girl who was haunting him. He had a job to do. That is Jace's top priority right now.
