Chapter Four
Althea wanted to know more about the new students, so she walked over to the admissions building which looked like a small house. They had converted the building from the house to an office building for students and staff members.
Althea walked inside to find that one of the staff members was busy on the phone. She approached the front desk.
"Althea!" exclaimed the woman behind the counter, she hung up the phone. "How are you?"
"I'm fine, Mrs. Winter," Althea answered. "What about you?"
"Oh, I'm doing great!" Ms. Winter smiled. "What can I do for you?"
"I was wondering, could you tell me anything about the new students?" Althea questioned. "There's a guy on campus named Peter. I was wondering if you could give me some information on him or his friends."
Ms. Winter sighed. "Sorry, Althea, but while I would love to help you, I can't give away personal information."
Defeated, Althea thanked her for help. She couldn't think of another way to get information except by talking to Peter. Althea grew tired and started walking back to her dorm—not realizing that she was being followed.
*~*~*
Two men watched from separate parts of the campus while the girl was walking by the library. A man Althea's age, with dirty blonde hair and green eyes, stood watching. He always wore a leather jacket and carried a special blade with him. The man stood in the shadows, remembering when he was sent to the campus to find a young girl by the name of Althea Reyes. He remembered what the girl looked like, so it was easier to find her when he looked for her by the library. She was looking at her phone, not paying much attention.
The man was about to step out when he noticed Peter following her. He knew Peter was nothing but trouble, considering this was the same man as back in Wiley State. Stepping from the shadows, he followed Peter before the girl paused at the library.
*~*~*
Althea sensed that someone was following her and didn't like it. She paused at the library and waited for that feeling to disappear, hoping it was her imagination. Shaking her head, Althea continued walking. Before she could even react, someone touched her shoulder, she whirled around nearly punching Peter in the face.
"Whoa!" Peter exclaimed. "Althea I'm not going to hurt you."
Althea glared at Peter, but noticed a guy dressed in blue jeans, a white t-shirt and a leather jacket. The stranger grabbed Althea and pulled her away.
"Oh, come on! Not you again!"
"You think you can talk to her like that?" Peter rolled his eyes.
"Ezra, relax, I won't do anything. When did you get here?" Peter questioned.
"When you and your friends got here," Ezra responded. "How about you leave my friend alone?"
Peter growled and stormed off, leaving Althea shocked and unsure of what to do.
*~*~*
Ezra watched Peter's retreating figure. Once he was out of sight, he turned toward Althea at the same time she pulled her arm away.
"Who the hell are you?!" she exclaimed. "I've never seen you before."
"I just transferred here from Wiley State," Ezra said. "I've been following Peter and his friends for weeks."
"So, you're with them?" Althea asked.
Ezra shook his head. "Let's just say we don't run in the same circles. Could I walk you back to your dorm?"
"Sure."
Ezra started following Althea back to her room.
*~*~*
Peter arrived back at his dormitory, slightly angry that Ezra got in the way, especially since he always followed Peter and the others everywhere. When Peter arrived, Jennifer stood with her arms crossed.
"Shouldn't you be watching that Althea girl?"
"I was," Peter responded, "but Ezra, got in the way."
"Him?! Again?!" Jennifer yelled. "He always follows us."
"We can get around him. So far, Althea has no clue who he truly is."
"Then we still have time," Jennifer answered. "Go back, follow Althea but make sure that Ezra does not see you." Peter nodded and walked out of the room in search for Althea.
*~*~*
Althea and Ezra were talking, and it felt like they had known each other for a long time. Althea walked into the dormitory and saw her best friend sitting on her bed, looking through her phone.
"Althea?" Abigail said, tearing her eyes away from the electronic and at her friend. "Everything okay?"
"Yeah, but you need to meet someone. This Ezra guy came out of nowhere and..."
"What guy?"
"Huh?" Althea said and saw that Ezra was nowhere to be found. "I swear he was here."
"Girl, I don't see anybody. Are you sure you're okay?" Abigail questioned.
Althea sighed, thinking that she was imagining things.
*~*~*
Ezra had to disappear since it wasn't time for Althea's friend to know about him. He arrived at the Chapel. It was small but had a good amount of seating in the room. Ezra walked by the seats and sat in the front row. He found himself lost in thought when he heard wings flapping.
"Michael?" Ezra said and turned to face his brother. The Archangel wore a long green cape, the sleeves hung over his shoulders, which kept the cape in place and showed his muscles. Ezra's brother also wore a leather skirt. His wings were dark blue, and his sword was hung over his side as he walked toward Ezra, his sandals making soft noises.
"You wanted to see me, brother?" Said Ezra.
"Yes," The Archangel responded, shifting his weight. "I am assuming you have already met your charge?"
"Are you talking about Althea?"
"Yes, I am," Michael answered. "There are things here, but not just those Servants of Evil. They're planning something and that girl and her friend are special."
"What are you talking about?" Ezra wondered. Michael sighed since his brother didn't understand what was going on. He explained to Ezra about Althea's abilities.
"Althea is an Angel Conduit. We haven't had one in years," Michael explained. "Abigail can also sense our presence, but her abilities are still growing. Ezra, you must keep a close eye on those girls. If something happens, you must warn the Council Angels as soon as possible."
"Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to them," said Ezra.
The young angel turned to ask his brother one last thing. But Michael disappeared, leaving Ezra alone.
