Chapter Eight
Hunting down the flower to cast the spell was going to be harder. After the incident with his friend, Peter was ready to call it a night. Especially since he had that brief flash of memory earlier. Margaret was someone he truly loved; she was also the only one who understood him, where his friends could not.
Peter walked into the forest, doing his best not to think about his past, but lately that was getting harder to keep up with. Peter wanted to understand where he fit in, or whether he should be a Servant of Evil.
Small twigs broke under Peter's weight as he walked through the dark of night. Peter remembered what the flower looked like: a pale pink color with sharp points at the ends of the petals. It glowed whenever someone walked by, so he was sure the flower would make itself known when he passed it. Despite searching for the flower, he thought about things that really bothered him. His mind would wander to Althea. Even though she was nothing more than a threat, he still found her stubbornness hot.
"Focus, you idiot!" Peter exclaimed to himself. "Your main goal is to find that stupid flower and then go back and get ready to start the ritual!"
Shaking his thoughts and everything aside, Peter walked down the dirt road until he arrived at a small pond. A large log lay on the shore, sticking into the water. The sound of crickets played around the water as Peter noticed that on the other side, grew the flower he needed.
*~*~*
Althea and Ezra walked into her dormitory, where Abigail was fast asleep. Her face mask was on so the light wouldn't bother her. Althea was tired, since she not only had worked, but had traveled over to the chapel and spoken with the angels, which still shook her to the core. She wasn't expecting to have so many powers, or that Michael and the archangel wanted her to help join in the fight against The Servants of Evil. Learning that Peter was part of that group was one thing, but now she had to think about stopping them.
I know that this is all complicated for you, but I'm sure that you'll understand, Althea heard Ezra say.
How are you doing that? Althea responded. Better yet, how am I able to do this?
It's part of what we can do, Althea, Ezra responded.
Can you maybe stop doing that? It's kind of creeping me out.
Well, how else are we going to talk to each other if someone else is in the room? I could solidify but I don't think you want your friend to hear that.
Althea got ready for bed and tried to ignore Ezra, but it was kind of hard since he was talking too much.
Althea, I know this is hard for you, but in time you'll be able to learn everything you need to know about your gifts.
Althea groaned. Everything that her Guardian Angel was saying had to be true, since she could see him. She climbed into her bed and passed out from all the walking and working.
*~*~*
Ezra remained quiet allowing for Althea to go to sleep. She'd had a long day and just wanted to get some sleep. After everything she'd been through, he couldn't blame her for falling asleep. Ezra smiled to himself. He wasn't planning on letting anything happen to his new charge. If something went wrong, he would lose his wings. Ezra walked over to the window, which was open. He grabbed the cord that would close the blinds, then saw a stranger outside, standing and staring at the window. The figure flashed in and out and laughed, but no sound came out.
Instinct took over; Ezra pulled out his blade before walking out of the dorm room. Ezra remained invisible and approached the figure, who was staring down at the elementary school Ezra kept his blade in his hand in case someone attacked him or his charge. The figure turned slowly, revealing himself to be a pale man with bright red eyes.
"Who are you?" Ezra asked. The man he was looking at wasn't anyone that he knew or anyone the angels had told him to look out for.
"You can't stop what's coming," The man said in a raspy voice. "The end is nigh once he rises, then there will be no stopping him."
"What are you talking about?"
"He will bring about the end of the world and he will take over," the man continued. "There's nothing you can do to stop it, you and your charge."
"I don't know who you are or what you want, but I will never let you harm anyone on this planet." The man sped up and appeared in front of Ezra's face. He smiled evilly, revealing cracked teeth.
"You are part of this, Ezra. For years it's been like this—that prophecy you and your siblings are trying to protect."
Ezra stepped away front he man, but the man continued walking toward him each time he moved.
"And soon enough what happened to your previous charges will happen to this one. You won't stop them."
Ezra turned away and gripped his blade tight.
"Can't you feel it? That feeling? Loss? Anger? Hatred?"
"Shut up!" Ezra yelled. He attempted to strike at the figure, but it vanished, leaving the distant echo of the man.
You can't stop it, Ezra. She will die just like the rest of them. Nothing will stand in the way. Not even you.
The man's voice faded away, leaving Ezra outside. The sudden appearance of the man caused Ezra to make sure he paid close attention to his charge. If something happened to her, then he wouldn't forgive himself.
"I won't let anything happen to her or her friend. I'll stop this plan, whether I get help or not."
