Chapter Three

The next morning, Althea and Abigail awoke to their alarms going off usually, they went to breakfast around seven, since the food was fresh then. Althea removed her covers and got out of bed.

"Hey sleepy head," Althea said, approaching her friend. "Wake up."

"I'm awake," responded Abigail. "But why does it have to be so early?"

"You know how it is," Althea answered. "If we go early, the food will still be hot."

"Still," Abigail said as she got out of bed. Althea laughed and opened her drawers.

"I would like to sleep in for a bit." Abigail walked over to her drawers and pulled out her outfit for the day.

Althea glanced at her friend and noticed that she was quiet. "Abigail? Everything okay?"

"Yeah, everything is fine. I just have a strange feeling about today," Abigail responded.

"What do you mean?" Althea asked. At this point her friend worried her; she hoped that nothing bad would happen that day. If her friend had a bad feeling, things never turned out well.

"I mean, something is going to happen," Abigail said simply. "I just don't know what it is or when, but I feel like we should be prepared.

After the girls got ready, they made their way to the cafeteria. Walking down the street, the girls ran into someone. Althea groaned and fell back, only to find that she had once again run into Peter.

"We have got to stop meeting like this," said Peter, and held out his hand for Althea.

"Althea? Who is this?" Abigail asked.

"Abigail, this is Peter. Peter, Abigail," Althea gestured between the two.

"It's good to meet you," Peter said with a smile. At first Althea thought things would be fine, but Abigail was switching her weight from one foot to the other. Something didn't sit right about Peter; those green eyes held something dark.

"Uh huh." Abigail narrowed her eyes toward Peter, who took a step back. "So it's no coincidence that you made an appearance around the same time we're going to breakfast?"

"I'm heading that way to meet up with my friends," Peter responded. "Do you mind if I join you?"

"Thanks, but no thanks," Althea responded as she got up from the ground.

Althea and Abigail walked around Peter and made their way into the cafeteria. The girls walked over to their regular seat and placed all their stuff down. After their small encounter, Althea thought little about it. The cafeteria wasn't too busy since it was early morning and most people wanted to sleep in. The ones who were there sat at the tables with their plates full of food, laughing and talking about things they planned to do during the day.

After Althea and Abigail got their breakfast, they walked back to their table. The girls sat down to eat, Althea glanced over at the entrance and noticed Peter at a nearby table by a window, going up to meet with his friends. They wore the same clothes as he did and stuck together like flies. Althea elbowed her friend as she looked at the other students. Althea didn't feel so well. She sat her fork down on the plate, leaving her potatoes untouched. The four friends entered the breakfast line, but Althea remained silent, unsure about what she was going to do. Peter and Althea locked eyes with each other, like they were having a conversation.

"Althea?" Abigail said. "Are you okay?" when Althea said nothing, Abigail waved her hand in front of her friend. "Girl, hello?"

Althea tore her eyes away from Peter and the other three and turned back to her friend. "You nearly gave me a heart attack."

"Sorry, it's just, I don't like the way they entered," Althea answered. "Don't you think it's weird how we now have new students on the campus? They seem to stick together."

"Okay, now I feel you're being paranoid," Abigail responded. "Look, they may only be new students, you never know."

"Well, that Peter guy keeps looking at me," Althea said.

"Maybe he thought you were cute?" Abigail suggested. Althea glared at her friend, who shrugged. "What? Can't blame a girl for trying, right?"

"Whatever." Althea knew what her friend was going to think. "Althea was planning to go to the admissions building later, after breakfast. She picked up her fork and started eating her cold food. She glanced sideways toward the four students as they sat at the table. Once again, Peter and Althea locked eyes. Althea couldn't help but feel the same uneasy presence. It surrounded them like a moth drawn to a flame. Althea shook her head as she and her friend finished eating.

They gathered their plates, brought them over to the window and placed them on the counter. Gathering their stuff, the girls walked out of the cafeteria. Althea glanced at Abigail, who looked like she would throw up any second. Thankfully, they made it out of the cafeteria alive, and as they were about to make their way back, Althea decided it was best for her to head to the admissions building now.

"I'll catch up with you later. I need to do something," Althea said.

"Okay, well, I may be in class when you come back," answered Abigail. "But see you whenever." Abigail walked in the opposite direction. With Abigail gone, Althea walked over to the admissions building.
