Chapter Five

Althea was staying in her room working on homework when someone knocked on the door. She hesitated. She didn't trust anything that those students were saying, especially after everything that happened to her. Cautiously, Althea walked over to the door and looked through the peephole. Peter stood on the other side, his arms crossed, waiting impatiently for her to answer.

"I know you're in there!" he called out. "I will not hurt you Althea, I just wanted to talk."

"Why are you here?" Althea asked, pulling the door open and letting Peter inside. Peter smiled and walked in briskly.

"I don't have to explain myself to you. I want you to listen and listen well," he continued. "I know what you can do Althea. I don't care that you don't know. I want you to stay out of the way. We don't want anyone to keep us from what we're attempting to do."

"Go screw yourself," Althea exclaimed. "You know nothing about me! So go mess with someone else!"

Althea grabbed Peter by the arm and shoved him out the door before slamming it in his face. Peter rolled his eyes as he turned and walked out of the dormitory.

Althea ran for her phone and in a panic, she dialed Abigail's number. It rang three times before going straight to voicemail. "Abigail, I know you're probably in class right now, but I need to talk to you as soon as possible!" Althea hung up and tossed her phone onto the bed.

It was well over one hour and Althea's stomach turned; she bit her lower lip, eager for someone to talk to. She debated if she wanted to get involved with whatever Peter had planned. Althea's brows furrowed as she thought about what to do. She paced around the carpeted floor of the dormitory for a few minutes before she heard the click of the lock. Abigail walked into the room.

"Althea? What's wrong? I got your message." Abigail's brown eyes stayed glued to Althea, worried.

Althea sighed. She knew the day would come when she had to tell her friend about her empathic abilities. It was something she'd always dreaded. Sure, being an Empath was great, but that didn't mean it was fun.

"Abigail," Althea said. "Sit down, there's something I have to tell you."

Abigail sat her bag by the desk before sitting in her seat.

"I need you to promise me you'll keep an open mind." Althea's voice shook with fear–fear that her friend wouldn't believe her and fear that she would get laughed at.

"Althea, you're scaring me. Are you sure everything is, okay?" Abigail asked, pushing her bangs out of her face. Since there wasn't much of an option, Althea needed to stop hesitating; otherwise, she wouldn't get anywhere.

"You know how I am, girl," Abigail said reassuringly. "Just tell me. I promise I can handle it."

Using all the bravery she could muster, Althea explained the situation—how Peter followed her, and how she was threatened. The worst part to explain was her empathic abilities. Talking about powers and abilities sounded crazy in her mind, but she always had a hunch that she differed from anyone else around her.

"Slow down!" Abigail exclaimed. "I can't catch up with everything you're saying."

"Sorry," Althea apologized. "I'm an Empath. At least I think I am."

"Right." Abigail narrowed her eyes. She stood from the chair and walked over to her friend. "Maybe you should sit down. I think you're losing it.

"No! I'm not lying!" Althea exclaimed. She turned to her shelf and pulled out a book that she had been reading for a little while. It was black with multiple different colors and shades on the cover. "This is a book on empaths," she explained. "Empaths are born with this gift. It's not something you learn."

"Let's pretend for a second that this is real," Abigail said. "What does this have to do with Peter?"

"Peter said he knew what I could do," she said. "I don't know about you, but I think there's something bigger in the works here. We need to figure it out before something else happens."

*~*~*

This is crazy, Abigail thought. I can't believe I'm doing this. There's no way that they're up to anything.

Abigail did not realize how hard it was going to be to find Peter and his friends. She walked around the campus. The fall breeze rustled the leaves in the late afternoon. She was about to give up when her eyes landed on two men. A man with sandy colored hair and grey eyes, and another with raven colored hair, walked together into Wendell Hall.

Abigail casually strolled over to the concrete stairs which led into the building. The men walked inside, not paying much attention to their surroundings. She remained hidden near the wall and when she knew it was safe, Abigail entered the building, but stayed back. She placed one of her black earbuds into her ear and called her friend.

"Abigail? Where are you?" Said Althea.

"I'm in Wendall Hall," Abigail responded. "I saw two of Peter's friends enter the building."

"Keep following them and try to find out what they're up to," Althea suggested.

"You got it," Abigail agreed and hung up. She looked up and saw the two walking into Wolf Den. Determined to figure out what was going on, she walked into the dimly lit room and sat down next to a stall where Peter's friends were sitting. To make it less conspicuous, Abigail pulled out her phone and pretended to look through it.

"Alex, what's the deal?" one student said. "I thought we were going with the plan."

"Right now, we need to find the right person to use as a conduit," Alex said. "I figured we could find them here."

Abigail scanned the room. There were students working on homework. One student with strawberry blonde hair stepped into the room, catching Abigail's attention. It was the girl that she and Althea despised, the queen of drama, Melissa.

"Hey Adam, don't look now, but I think the one we're looking for just walked in," Alex said. "She has a strong energy, and her auras are all over the place—full of darkness and depression."

"Are you sure she's the one?" Adam asked.

"Do you have a better idea?"

"Not really."

"Good, let's go." Alex stood up, followed by Adam. They walked toward Melissa.

*~*~*

Althea sat in the library. The main floor smelled of old books and paper. Acting as casual as she could, Althea grabbed a book and pretended that she was reading. She looked over and saw Peter and Jennifer walking toward the glass door and down the stairs. Their feet made a tapping sound that echoed throughout the stairway. Althea walked down the stairs until she got to the bottom floor, which had shelves at the center of the room that stacked high toward the ceiling. Desks were in different parts of the room.

Althea walked through the basement and hid amongst the shelves. She peeked around the corner only to see Jennifer and Peter pull a book down. Immediately, a secret door opened, and the two walked inside. Althea approached the room and stepped through. The minute she did she saw that the room was dark, save for the light shining through the window. The shelves were covered in dust and cobwebs, like no one had been in here in years.

"What exactly are we looking for, Jennifer?" Peter asked as he went through the bookshelves.

"I'll let you know as soon as I find it," Jennifer responded. "Just look for any books about summoning's."

"It would be quicker if we looked at the leather book we brought," Peter grumbled. Jennifer turned back toward him and crossed her arms.

"What?"

"That book can only do so much," Jennifer said. "Alex and Adam want to make sure we can get it without screwing up."

Althea peeked her head around the corner. Peter was walking toward her hiding place, forcing her to get out of the area. Stepping away from the shelf, Althea hid behind another one. Peter and Jennifer stayed in the room for a good fifteen minutes before Althea assumed they found what they were looking for. Jennifer whipped out her phone and took a picture of it once they finished. Peter closed the book and walked out with Jennifer.

As soon as they were out, Althea made her move and walked over to the book. Its title said: Summoning Rituals for Your Every Need. Althea touched the strange old book and opened it to a page that she wished she had never seen.

The page had strange golden markings on it, from pointed stars to a pyramid with an eye in the center. At the bottom of the page, there was an upside down cross. She read the page and found that Peter and his friends were going to be more trouble than she pictured.

Summoning Spell

Ingredients:

The Blood of a Nephilim.

Two petals of Rosa Rubirosa

The Blood of the Chosen.

The Blood of the chosen, Althea repeated. What kind of sick, twisted people are they? She wanted to throw up. These people weren't at school to get a degree. They were here to summon something. Althea took a picture of the page and left the library. Whatever Peter and his friends were doing, they needed to be stopped.
