Chapter 22: Prison Break
Queen Amelia fetched her son-in-law and Asher's father, Prince Matthew, and his best friend Sir Bryce. They gathered around the table in the King's room, planning their escape and attack. It didn't take long for a plan to be formed and for everyone to take their places.
Jacquelyn, Henry, Asher and Bryce headed to the window where the guardians had come in. Outside, the boat still stayed afloat. One by one they climbed in, and once they were settled, Jacquelyn drove them away.
The boat moved downwards until its bottom touched the surface of the water. They stay close to the cliff the castle sits on, not wanting to encounter any of the creatures Caine has let loose in the ocean.
"Over there!" said Sir Bryce, pointing forward
They looked up and spotted the cave the king had told them about. Jacquelyn drives the boat to it and slowly enters the cave. It was dark inside, but it was soon illuminated by the flame floating in Henry's palm. Asher's eyes widened as he stared at the ball of fire.
"Wow," the teenager said
"I know right?" his peer said from the front of the boat
The boat continued to move forward until the walls of the cave were no longer dirt and rock, but bricks. Soon, they came upon a flight of stairs in the brick wall, and at its base, a floating wooden ramp. Jacquelyn brings the boat to it, and once settled, they all climb off.
They slowly ascend the stairs, and once at the top, they are greeted with exactly what the King told them they would find. Rows and rows of cells.
They were in the dungeon.
Henry finds a torch close by and uses his flame to light it. There were more torches around, but it would take awhile for him to shoot fireballs at each of them.
He thought of a better way to get the job done.
The fire guardian closed his eyes, concentrating. Within seconds, torch after torch in the dungeon lit up, revealing the prisoners. The sudden appearance of light surprises them, and murmurs erupted.
Taking a closer look at the cells, Jacquelyn saw the men in them. They were muscular, tall men, but they also looked beat down and discouraged. It was hard to believe they were the King's knights. Caine's warriors had tried to beat the courage out of them, and it looked like they were starting to succeed.
One of the men in the cells, whose eyes had just adjusted to the light, spotted the Knight and Prince.
"It's Sir Bryce, and Prince Asher!" he said
The murmurs grew louder as more knights looked through the bars and saw them.
"Fellow Knights..." Sir Bryce began "We have come to rescue you"
The Knights got even louder.
"Your time has come to finally defend your land" he continued "Caine believes he can come back and take over, let's show him whose kingdom this really belongs to"
Sounds erupted from the cells once more, this time it was cheering. The courage the warriors had tried to get rid of showed its head once again.
Being cut off from the outside world meant no invasions or attacks from outside kingdoms. What country in their right mind would attack an island surrounded by deadly creatures? Because of this, the Knights never got a chance to battle, a chance to defend their kingdom. All they did was restore peace when brawls erupted between citizens.
It was finally time to do more than just break up fights between neighbours.
The four smiled at their excitement.
"Let's get them out of here," Henry said

Ryia, Philip, Alianor, Prince Matthew and the King all stood in the corridor of the East Wing. In front of them was a large wooden double door, on the other side, shadow warriors guarding them.
"Is everyone ready?" Alinor whispered
They nodded, weapons help tightly in their hands. Even the King had a sword and shield. They had told him to stay back with the rest of his family, but the old man insisted on helping, it was his kingdom after all.
Philip and Prince Matthew stepped forward and with a nod at each other, they raised their feet and kicked the doors open.
The warriors on the other side fell forward as the door hit their backs. But they were quick and soon back on their feet. It was too late though. Before they could lift their weapons to fight, Philip and Matthew waved their swords and the two fell to the floor with a thud.
Within seconds, the warriors turned into dust. The group was surprised but had no time to express it, more warriors were headed their way.
Philip and the Royals slashed their swords, hitting every warrior that approached them. Ryia swung her axe, hitting the few who dared approach her. One of them made their way to Alinor. Seeing her lack of weapons, it made her out to be an easy target, but it was mistaken.
Using Henry's trick, she formed a ball of water in her palm. The warrior looked at her amused as if asking "what can a ball of water do to me?". Alianor smirked before sending it straight towards the warrior, to its head. But the large droplet didn't burst. It kept its shape as it swallowed the warrior's head. Its eyes widened when it realized it couldn't breathe.
Such a simple way to drown a warrior.
It soon fell to the floor and like the others turned into dust. Alianor turned, ready to drown some more, but the others had already taken care of them.
"Where to?" Philip asked the King
"This way" he answered, pointing to the left with his sword
They nodded and made their way down the hall. Their next stop, the servant's quarters. They were going to need all the help they could get.

In the dungeon, knights flooded out of the crowded cells, eager for the battle up ahead. Jacquelyn and Henry were going cell to cell, using their magic to unlock the cell doors. The two guardians couldn't help but smile at the thanks they received.
But the smiles and excitement dwindled when the sound of metal dragging against stone was heard.
"They're coming," one of the knights said
"Who's coming?" Henry asked
"Those creatures with the black skin and glowing eyes. They come to feed or torture us every few hours. It's never too many of them though" the knight answered
Sir Bryce nodded at the information before looking at the others "Be ready to fight"
Henry turned to his fellow guardian "Go free the other knights, we'll fight the warriors off"
The blonde nodded and headed to the block of unlocked cells. Footsteps could be heard coming towards them, the Princes and Henry pulled out their swords, ready to fight. Soon, a shadow warrior turned the corner, weapon in hand, prepared to torture. It had no time to react to the new faces in the dungeon when Henry stepped forward and swung his arm, his sword slashing the warrior. It fell onto the cold damp floor, then turned into a pile of dust.
More warriors appeared, and the Prince and Knight joined the fight. The released knights had no weapons, but a few ganging up on a single warrior worked just as well. The sounds of grunts and metal on metal filled the dungeon, but it eventually died down when the last warrior fell to the floor.
"That seems to be all of them," Henry said breathing heavily
"What do we do now?" one of the knights asked
"We get out of here and save the rest of the kingdom" Asher answered
With all the knights now free, they left the dungeon, making their way up to the castle.

Sounds of a battle could be heard coming from the entrance of the castle. King Francis, Prince Matthew, the guardians and some servants, were all engaged in battle with shadow warriors.
Rescuing the servants from their quarters wasn't a difficult task, there weren't many warriors guarding them to attack. Leaving the castle, however, was a different story. The entrance was filled with warriors, all ready to keep them inside the castle at all costs.
The sounds of metal on metal filled the foyer, along with an occasional splash from Alinor. Everyone was pitching in, including the head cook who was waving a cleaver around like a madman. Luckily, it did a lot of damage.
The battle seemed to be going nowhere, the number of warriors were too much to handle. It seemed like more kept showing up.
Alianor covered a warrior's head with a water sphere, as she was now calling it, and watched as it fell to the floor. She turned, about to do the same to another when it knocked her down. She laid on her back, eyes widening as the warrior raised its sword, tip pointing at her.
Before his hand could lower, sending the blade through her chest, a gust of wind blew, and fire enveloped the creature. Its sword dropped, and the gut-wrenching scream came from it as the flames burned through its flesh.
Alianor quickly sat up and moved away from it. She turned in the direction the flame came from and saw the grinning face of her best friend and Henry standing next to her.
Jacquelyn quickly ran off, her bow in hand, ready to attack. Henry approached the brunette and helped her off the floor.
"I haven't been gone an hour and you've already found yourself in a situation where I have to come save you" he smirked
Alianor rolled her eyes, trying to hide her smile.
"Let's just finish these creeps," she said
And that they did. With the other guardians and Prince there, and the help of the knights that seized weapons from the fallen warriors, the small battle they fought was quickly won, and every warrior now laid on the floor as a pile of dust.
