Chapter 4
The minute I closed the front door was the minute I felt two arms wrapped around me, "Ty!" I almost fell over at the force of whatever was hugging me, "I thought something terrible had happened!"
I looked down and saw Montavius clinging to me. I gently smiled, "Sorry. I stepped out of the house for a walk." 'Tavuis let go of me and went back to the kitchen window, watching Zannic walk away. He looked back at me frantically. I could see the fear in his eyes, "'Tavius. What's wrong?"
He closed the window and began scrambling all around the kitchen, getting two plates and starting to put food on each of them. He was shaky and antsy. Something was wrong. "'Tavius...what's gotten into you?"
He finished making the plates and put them on the table, he was moving around rather quickly, "Sit." Was his only command. I furrowed my brow. Who do he think he was telling me to sit like that? Even though my frustration, I sat from the seat across from him. He forced a smile on his face but I still saw the shaking in his hand. "S-s-so! D-d-did that guy w-walk you home?"
He looked crazed. I was almost frightened, "Montavius. Do I need to call someone?"
He was trying to calm down but I watched his nails grow. He was taking deep breaths and closing his eyes. This was the weirdest thing that has ever happened, "Tavyra. I don't think you understand. Do you know who that guy was?"
I started to stand up from the chair. For the first time, I was actually scared of Montavius, "You're scaring me."
He sighed once more, "I...we need to talk." I didn't want to be backed into a corner, but the way Montavius was acting, I kinda wanted to run away, "I need you to bare with me." I stared at him, slightly fearful. He stood from his seat and I saw the hair on his arm grow rapidly, covering his skin. A brown fur drowning him. His eyes turning a golden yellow and his nails turning to claws. I couldn't help but fell backwards. I was panicking, but it wasn't because he was turning into a wolf, it was because him, out of all people, was turning into a wolf.
Before I could think, there was a brown wolf standing in the kitchen. I couldn't help but scream. "Montavius! You're a wolf!?" The wolf lowered his head and looked away from me. I started twisting my hair, "Turn back. Turn back! It's weird when you're a wolf!"
Montavius changed back. I couldn't believe it, I simply stared at him like a mad man. He looked sad and regretful. He couldn't look at me, "Tavyra, I'm sorry for not telling you...I knew you'd be too frightened to even talk to me."
I sighed. I guess it's hard to explain, Yea. I'm totally a werewolf from Twilight or any other supernatural movie ever. I'm kinda glad I lost my wolf before I met 'Tavius because I wouldn't know whether or not to tell him. I smiled at him, trying to calm him down and not be as upset about himself, "'Tavius. I'm not mad. Surprised. But not mad."
He living his head up and looked at me, "You're not mad?" I nodded and went over to hug him, "W-why?"
I blushed. How was I suppose to explain this? Explaining it to Zannic was easy because I don't know him, but explaining it to Montavius? He might be mad. Or feel betrayed. But he'd understand, right? "Well...I'm a wolf too you could say."
Montavius looked at me for a long while. He probably didn't believe me. I couldn't blame him. He took a deep sniff. Why is everybody smelling me? "You? A wolf? I-I don't understand."
He's right. I don't really have much evidence to show that I actually am a wolf. Or was. I just decided to tell him the same story I told Zannic, "I became a rouge when I was young. It must've been a month of me being a rouge and then suddenly, she just never woke up again. I didn't feel her and she wasn't around. And from that day forth, I simply decided I was a mundy. Nothing more nothing less. I didn't wanna be a wolf anymore."
We sat back at the table and started to eat our food, "Didn't wanna be a wolf? How come?"
I sighed and flashbacks began to plague me. I tried to push them from my mind, but they didn't want to go away
Amina.
"It was never...enjoyable and it has bad memories." Amina. Save me. "The minute I saw to get away from it. I took it." I shoved the bacon in my mouth as I tried to think about happier things. Amina! I acted like nothing was bothering me, but I didn't feel like a round of 20 questions right now. Montavius understood my quietness and quietly ate his breakfast as well.
He then smirked and looked at me with a grin I've seen before. God, he knew something I didn't. I chuckled, "What are you smiling about?"
He chomped on his bacon again with the biggest grin, "So. Do you know who the guy who walked you home is?"
I watched him suspiciously. "Uh...Zannic."
Montavius picked up his fork and started to shove egg in his mouth, "You mean Alpha Zannic?"
I almost spit my food out, "Alpha? Him?" I pointed towards the window. Montavius nodded and sat back in his seat like he'd won. I decided to rub something in his face since he wanted to be so smug. "Are you sure? 'Cause was saying something about me being his mate or whatever."
'Tavuis' mouth dropped. I simply laughed, "Tavyra. Are you telling me you're the Alpha's mate?!" I shrugged. It really wasn't ideal considering I wanted to get out of the life, but that's something we're gonna have to work with.
"He invited me to the cookout tomorrow. Should I go?"
Montavius laughed, "You don't even know Alpha for a day and he's already asked you to a pack cookout? Of course you're going!" I laughed. Maybe getting back into the pack life wouldn't be so bad.
-Zannic's POV-
After I dropped Tavyra off at home, I headed back to the pack house. The entire way back, all I could think about was the amazing scent. I wanted to smell it all day and night. And it couldn't be attached to a more beautiful person than her. And her name. Wow, everything about her is just plain wow. I couldn't let my head get too distracted. Plus, she won't even fully accept me as a mate. I can't let her go that easily. I gotta fight for her.
I barged into the pack house. All eyes were on me as I entered. I didn't pay them much attention. I had to keep my standing with the pack and not let them know I'm head over heels over some...girl. Yea. Girl. That's what she is. I gotta keep it that way. I went to the common room in the pack house and searched the almost filled room. I saw Rufus on the couch reading a book among all the commotion and chatter from the other pack members. Now was a perfect time to set my position. "Rufus. My office. Now." I made sure my voice was strong and intimidating. Everybody in the room stopped their conversations and looked, expecting Rufus to follow with urgency. I knew him well enough to know he isn't scared of either Alpha. Hell, he practically raised me.
I stomped out of the room and upstairs to my office. I knew Rufus was gonna follow me regardless. I got to my office and looked out the window towards the neighborhood, the door towards my back. I crossed my arms. I couldn't let my guard down until that door was shut.
As if on cue, I heard Rufus enter the office and close the door behind him. He sat in the seat in front of the grand mahogany desk. There was a long silence between us. I simply watched the pack mingle with each other in the fall daylight. This would be all mine soon. Permanently. I won't have to worry about when my father will come home. When it will all end. I know one thing for sure. I know I'm ready.
"You called for me, Alpha?" Rufus finally said.
I turned around. I hated that I was gonna ask him this, but he was the only guy I could think of. I sighed and put my head down, "When does your mate reject you?"
Rufus looked surprised that I asked such a question. I almost felt humiliated. I needed to get my head back to where it needed to be. I couldn't have people thinking I was weak, but...she's something completely different, "A mate's rejection?" I nodded and let him see me weak, "Why do you ask?" I didn't make eye contact with him. What type of question was that? He knew exactly why I was asking. He was searching my face for something, but I couldn't tell what he was looking for, "Did your mate reject you?"
I shrugged. How was I suppose to explain she couldn't reject me because she doesn't have a wolf. I couldn't explain it myself, "I...I don't think so..."
He put a hand on my shoulder in comfort, "How's your wolf?"
I looked at him questionably, "My wolf?"
He nodded, "Yea. If you're being rejected, he's not gonna take it lightly."
I rolled my eyes, "Well I'm not being rejected yet. It just...looks that way."
"Exactly. If your wolf realizes that before you do. It's not gonna be pretty. He's going to get aggressive rather quickly, and he's not gonna care who's in his way."
I thought about what he said to me. My wolf was going to become aggressive soon. Unless Tavyra actually likes me. I hope she likes me. I already felt my blood starting to boil. I didn't know what to do without her. Wait a minute, I'm starting to get unreasonably angry. I sighed, "I see what you're talking about."
"Just be careful, alright? Your wolf doesn't care. Remember that." I nodded and let him leave. I heard the door close behind him and I bit my lip. I want her to be with me so bad. But...does she wanna be with me?
