Chapter 27

-Zannic's POV-

The silver sword jutted out of the back of my mate. Her blood shining in the moonlight. My heart dropped to my stomach and everything was numb for a moment. This wasn't real. This was impossible.

Her body slumped over the sword the King dropped his silver sword along with her body with it. All the rage was  bubbling over and I cleared the distance between us in a matter of moments. The Rouge King wasn't expecting my reaction as I looked dead in his eye as my claws came up to his throat and ripped his esophagus out, making sure he saw it in my hands before he dropped, losing blood quickly.

Even though his body was motionless, my claws still continued, ripping all the skin they could find and a blur of red was the only thing I could see. Nothing mattered. There's no way.

There's no way!

"Zannic!"

I stopped at a hand came to my shoulder, responding with a growl but calming down once I saw it was Tyson. He had a look that slightly horrified him as he looked at the body of The Rouge King that laid in front of him. I wasn't playing around anymore. I finally examined the damage I had caused and realized that he was no longer recognizable. There was no remnant of a face left. There was hardly any skin left of his bones.

I had a realization that everything around me was quiet. The entire sanctuary was silent. I came back to see my mate laid on the ground, the sword still stuck through her. My breath left me as I crawled over to her, afraid to touch her as her body transformed back into her human form, it was bad. Tyson came up behind me and waiting for any future orders, I couldn't think straight, "Get medical."

I couldn't even register that we weren't back with the pack where medical was. We were almost a hundred miles away from home. Tyson tried to speak this sense into me, "Zan, that isn't poss-"

"Medical!" I roared. My logical thoughts were not reaching my brain as I still yelled and screamed for somebody to do something. I could hear nothing but my own screaming and begging to the crowd, "Get help! Get help!"

"Zannic! She might not make it." Tyson told me.

This information hit me like a rock enough for me to fall back, "Don't say that! Get her to medical! Don't let her die!"

Nobody moved at my cries for help. Everyone was hopeless. I was the only one that still had hope. I was stunned that no one was trying, no one was fighting for me. I was at a lost, "Do something!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There were screaming tears. The noise woke me up and I tried to find the source. I stepped out of the hospital room and entered the one next to ours, a woman I recognized from the mission as Alice was cradling an older man's body on the bed. She was in broken tears that broke her entire composure, the flatlining of his monitor breaking her heart even more as it echoed throughout the medical hallways. Most the injuries we came back with were able to be patched up pretty quickly, but we already had 2 fatalities. The doctors were working everywhere from the emergency surgery to calling the times of death.
Was this mission even worth it?
"Alpha Zannic?" I turned my head quickly, my heart racing. I wanted to respond to him like I wasn't losing my mind, but I couldn't. "May we speak to you?"
I stepped my way out of Alice's room and back into the hallway, instinctively looking for my Tavyra, but I couldn't find her. My stomach dropped at the thought of not seeing her again. I was shaking trying to speed up the information the doctor was trying to tell me because he still looked nervous. "We've done everything we could-"
A hand launched to his throat, scared and hurting and working on trying to not to go against my instincts, but still, I had his throat in my hand. I have to calm down. I have to calm down. Let him talk.
I let go and took a deep breath. "Sorry, doctor."
His eyes were bulging out of his head and simply pointed to the room I came from. I hesitated from moving until I heard another flat line. All the air left me as I stepped forward again into the room. There was a nurse next to her bed and the monitor going flat. I fell to my knees, my heart burning in my chest.
"Sorry, Alpha." The nurse said. A few more burning tears slipped down my cheeks. Suddenly the flatlining stopped and it went back to a normal heartbeat. My head shot up, looking at the monitor next to Tavyra and it was back to normal.
Tavyra was shifting in her bed and I shot to her side, grabbing her hand to let her know I was there. She groaned and I couldn't help but smile as her eyes fell to mine, I couldn't be happier to see them again.
I greeted her back, "Well hello there," I joked. She smiled at me and it made my heart jump, finally being able to calm down and relax knowing she was okay.
"Hi.." She greeted back weakly. I kissed her hand, happier to have her back and smiling in my life.
