Chapter 26

-Zannic's POV-

The sun had long set and Team A was in motion. The rest of us stood back at the camp, waiting for the signal. I had a numb feeling. Almost just numb excitement. I looked back at Tavyra and whispered, "Are you ready?" I asked her.

She nodded and held my hand, probably too scared to speak.

Almost as if on cue, the whistle gave the signal. I turned to Team B, C, and D. "Go, go, go!" Everyone transformed into wolves except those holding snipers and Tavyra. She probably didn't know how. I figured I'm gonna stay human with her so she won't get hurt.

We all ran towards the fort, quicker than we've ever been. Now was the time for no mistakes. Being the leader of Team C, I made sure we slowly trailed behind Team B. We need the least casualties as possible. Tavyra gripped my hand tighter as we stood right outside the entrance, waiting for a path to be cleared by Team B. I looked back at my team, all of them had transformed, besides us. They'd be quicker on their feet. I motion for them to go ahead, most of them run past as an opening clears, but a larger wolf stands back. It was Tyson.

I nodded my head to reassure him and motioned him forward once again. He obeyed this time and followed after the pack. I looked back at Tavyra, seeing the fear in her eyes as she saw wolves fighting each other, blood spattered everywhere. I stood in front of her to catch her attention, "Sweetie, I need you to focus here." She stared back at me, but only with vacant eyes. "I have to transform. Either you stay close or try to transform with me. Okay?"

-Tavyra's POV-

Transform with him!? Was he crazy? The sound of growling and howls of pain were all around me, I heard nothing but chaos. It was much more intimidating face to face with death. I heard a few bones cracking and watched as Zannic transformed into a much larger beast, broader shoulders, taller height, and red eyes. Somehow, his wolf was much more intimidating than he was.

His claws began to hurt so I let go, as I watched him run off into battle, I felt my legs moving to follow after him. I avoided fly-away claws and teeth coming my way. It was rather easy to tell who was a rouge and who was from the pack. The rouges were much skinnier than us, looked to be starving, but they were much bigger in number.  It was almost three to one. As many as there were against us, we were picking them off like flies. I walked through the growing carnage, looking for Zannic.

I needed to find him, he could be hurt. What if he needed my help? I opened and closed my palms, trying to calm my anxiety as my heart was beating faster. I simply couldn't calm down. As I searched the crowd one more time, I had my eyes on Zannic. He had a few rouges on his back, clawing at him and biting his fur. Seeing this put me over the edge.

I skin became hot, my canines started to hurt once more, I had rapid hair growth as the bones in my face rearranged themselves. I couldn't help but scream from the pain. I had pain in my knees, my face, my mouth, everything hurt, but I couldn't stop it at this point. Stopping would make it worse. I ride out teh transformation and my screams of pain turn into a howl of anger.

Everything was so hypersensative. I could hear and see everything, but what stood out to me the most was the attack on Zannic. I ran over to him, claws ready to snatch at each and every one of their necks.

-Zannic's POV-

An unheard howl distracted me from my ambush. I saw the most delicate wolf, heading my direction. Her fur had a violet tint to it in the moonlight, and every hair flowed so delicately in the wind. As she came up on all fours, I saw her eyes, a piercing yellow. I also noticed how angry they were.

I shook my head out of the trance and elbowed a rouge to my right, trying to push his nose in and from the whimper let out, it worked. I was still working with the other three on my back. I got another bite on my collar, these teeth were abnormally sharp, it broke skin almost immedietly. I tried to pry him off of me, but the yellow-eyed wolf did that for me. Slamming him in the ground and giving two soild, cold cracks. The rouge went lifeless as the voilet wolf picked off the other two. I was perplexed. In my head I knew this was Tavyra, but it still amazed me how amazing she was.

I saw a rouge trying to sneak up behind her and I caught him by his neck before he got the chance. I didn't care if I was as ruthless as my father as I stepped and crushed his skull. How dare he threaten her.

Tavyra looked over at me and I growled, so proud of her. She pointed her attention to the King on the throne. I nodded and almost in sync, we charged at him. As we approached him, he slowly stood up from his seat, not even transformed yet. Something was wrong. I slowed my speed to examine my surroundings. The King was unguarded, he simply stood calmly at his throne. A shine of silver caught my eye as Tavyra pounced at him, claws out and at his neck.

I was too far away to help. I yelled to her as everything seemed to happen in slow motion, "No!"

The King held a sword, unseathing it and aiming it Tavyra. My heart dropped as her momentum plundged her onto the sword. The sword went right through her. The other end held her blood, red as day.
