Chapter 20
Thea
Ava was around and was raiding Thea's closet for a dress for her date with Hank. Thea was almost regretting suggesting the date. She had felt cornered by Hank with his insistence that she told Jamal about what happened between them. First, he had told her not to tell, then he went on a two-day break and came back with a different solution.
"Why do you have so many formal clothes?" Ava asked interrupting her thoughts.
"You can have them. I was going through a phase when I got them."
"What phase? Thanks anyway, I'm sure they will come in handy," she laughed.
Thea picked the formal clothing off their hangers and threw them on the bed. She regretted trying to be so different from her true self. Jamal liked her for whom she was and she needed to be more of that, more confident also.
Right now, all she knew was that they were going to jointly work on their marriage. At some point in the future, she was going to tell him what happened between her and Hank. She'd rather take it to the grave but if they were ever in the spirit of sharing, she'd blurt it out. Thea was already trying to find them a therapist as they needed all the professional help they could get.
"Thea, what's going on?" Ava asked.
"What?"
"Are you pregnant? You've been acting weird lately."
"I'm not pregnant, I'm simply going through a lot."
"Jamal?"
"Do you know I used to resent you as a kid?" she deviated.
"Why? You had everything. Do you think this will look good on me?" She took a dress off it's hanger and showed Thea.
Thea ignored the last question. "You told me not to call your mother mom."
"We were just kids, Thea. I can't remember saying that if it makes you feel better."
"It doesn't."
"You're throwing a tantrum over what happened years ago. Thea, you never throw tantrums, that's more my forte. What's going on?"
"Nothing. I mean there's something going on of course but it's none of your concern."
"You don't have cancer, do you?"
"No. Find a dress already, I need you gone."
"Jesus! You're on a roll, I'm leaving."
"Fine."
She pouted. "Don't call me later to ask how my date went."
"Duly noted."
Ava took her purse and walked out of the closet. Thea followed her and quickly grabbed the cookies she made for her from the kitchen. When she met her cousin at the door and handed her the wrapped cookies, she raised her brows in question.
"You expect me to take that? Now? When we're fighting?" She looked at the cookies like the offending makeup gift it really was.
"Peanut butter cookies," she reminded her. "Also, we're not fighting."
"Ugh, you're insufferable. Gimme my snack." She snatched the cookies from Thea and walked out without a Thanks.
Thea went back to the kitchen and checked her phone. There was no call or text from her husband, what else was new?

Thea couldn't sleep well at night because she dreamt about her time with Hank. It was always so vivid that she sometimes woke up panting and horny. Hank going on a date with Ava made things worse as she kept seeing both of them in bed in her dreams.
Thea was happy to see Hank the following day. She couldn't wait to ask him about his date with her cousin. Ava was still sulking over her attitude and didn't pick her calls nor did she respond to all her chats asking how the date went. She was going to kill her with the suspense and Thea couldn't take it anymore.
She sat in the front seat and was grateful when Hank turned on the radio instead of playing one of his sad, rock songs.
"You're in a good mood this morning," she started with small talk.
He looked at her and smiled. "How could you tell?"
"You're not listening to your sad songs."
"They aren't sad songs. Some of those songs are about drugs and women."
"Even sadder." Wrong turn, cut, cut, cut. Now she sounded like she was judging his taste in music.
They remained silent all through the ride to her office. When Hank parked the car under the shade as usual, she tried to start a conversation again.
"How was your date with my cousin?"
"It was cool." Hank unbuckled his seat belt and faced her.
"Just cool?"
"Yea. She wanted me to spend the night, but it felt like we were moving too fast. Do you know she has a boyfriend?"
"Yea, she kinda mentioned that once." Many times actually.
"So how did you think we were going to work?"
Say the truth. "I wasn't really thinking when I made the suggestion."
"Oh. Anyway, we won't be having any more dates in future because I'm not going to be her side piece."
"Are you willing to be her main piece if she breaks up with her boyfriend?" she thought out loud.
"Depends."
She wanted to ask what it depended on so badly but also didn't want to get involved in his personal life anymore.
"Ask," she heard the mockery in his voice.
"What?"
"Thea, ask already. We don't have all day."
"Depends on what?" He'd baited her and she didn't care, she just needed to know.
"Why are you so interested in this, hmm?"
"You asshole, you told me to ask." Hank laughed and her lips thinned.
"You're too easy."
"I didn't like that you actually went with my suggestion, it made me uncomfortable for no reason."
"I think it's called jealousy."
"That's not it. I have a husband, what's there to be jealous about?"
"You tell me."
"There's nothing to tell, Hank."
"Okay, woman."
He helped her with her seat belt and when his fingers didn't brush her body at all, she felt disappointed.
"Off you go."
Hank was looking at her waiting for her to exit the car and Thea did the last thing she should be doing, she kissed him. Her hand went to his neck and she leaned into him when he deepened the kiss. Hank pulled the seat backward to create more room and before she knew it, she was on his laps running her fingers all over his head.
Nothing else mattered as she kissed Hank and she couldn't stop biting her lips when he toyed with her nipples and licked the inside of her ear at the same time. She pulled his head to her nipples looking for some sort of relief.
Her fingers found his fly when he went back to biting her neck. Hank groaned low like a wounded animal when she palmed his dick. Thea wanted to hear more of the sound so she wrapped her hand around his length and used her thumb to play with the tip.
Hank pulled her shorts down and she wriggled as best as she could to get it down her thighs. He strapped on a condom, pulled her panties to the side and entered her in a swift motion. Thea groaned out his name when he guided her hips as they both rocked into one another.
"This is why your cousin and I would have never worked, I like you way too much to much to be interested in someone else."
His words pushed Thea over the edge and when Hank buried deeper into her, she shattered and came. Her head fell on his shoulder as he came also.
Not again, she said silently after coming to her senses. Thea got off his lap and out of the car when he opened the driver's door.
