Chapter eight

What I immediately noticed about Satan is his eyes. They're bloody red like the ones I saw a couple nights ago. "What kind of questions would you like me to answer?"

"Yeah, Hudson. What kind of questions do you have." I say.

"Just remember you can't accept a dare from him."

It took a bit for Hudson to think of a question. "Will I ever get a girlfriend?"

"If you stop annoying and seducing women yes, but if you don't then no."

Disappointment rolled across his face. I was ready to laugh. It was my turn. "Does one of the guys have a crush on me?"

"Yes one of them and I can't tell you. But if you want to know who it is, you must accept a dare from me."

My face moved to shock. We're not supposed to accept dares. "You must go out in the night and murder a stray human, more better a drunkie."

I shook my head but Hudson has other plans.

"Challenge accepted."

Glancing at Hudson then back at Satan, his smug face, curling his smile into the grinch smile. Tomorrow night, I want you to kill that person then come back the next night to ask more questions."

He disappeared and I looked at Hudson in shock.

"What the hell man? I just said 'don't accept dares from the devil.' "

"Well we have to do it tomorrow night so we better start planning."

We packed up and headed out. I'm very tired but I still forced myself to drive. "Look I'm very sorry for accepting the dare I didn't know how bad it would be."

"Well you messed up big time and now we have to murder and innocent person who has no right to die. Plus, I don't want to go to jail."

"We won't go to jail. We'll just get fined and sent to court. No jail."

"Still."

"Well I'll see you tomorrow."

I threw the bag in the back seat getting into the front. I saw him back out of the parking space then drove off as I followed behind him.

I got home bringing in the bag, setting it on the counter going straight to bed. Sprawled across the bed trying to sleep, I glanced at my door seeing those same red bloody eyes I saw the other night. I screamed high pitch, knocking things off my dresser as I searched for my phone. I kept my gaze firmly on the glowing, bloody red eyes.

Quickly switching the flashlight on as soon as I flash in the direction.

It was gone once again.

Turning off the light, I stayed awake until sleepiness rose over me and flushed me out.

The next morning, my alarm buzzed in my ear repeatedly. I was still tired from last night but I listened to my alarm and went to get ready. Today I have a test. A Science one.

I haven't studied at all so this should be great.

Walking out of the house with toast in hand, I slapped my earbuds and started my music. It took me half an hour to get to school. Walking into the school yard, Hudson paced around looking up as soon as I stepped around the corner. "We need to talk about tonight."

I scanned the area before replying.

"Alright."

I walked up towards him as he did the same. "We need a plan about tonight with the killing and I have a lot of questions." he whispered in my ear. He glanced up to see people walking our way. He grabbed my wrist and yanked me to the trees. I saw worry in his face as he knew he messed up.

"Look, I'm very sorry that I didn't say no, but I have been up all night thinking about it. And it's scaring me."

"Calm down, Hudson. We will think of a plan after school. Just don't show it around others or they'll be suspicious of you."

"Okay."

The bags under his eyes will give him away. "Just don't worry."

"Okay."

We walked back to the school with others walking our way. I left him so people don't think that we are a thing or friends. We went our separate ways as I got my Science things getting ready for the test. Walking into the classroom, I took my seat and looked through the sheet real quick. The bell rang and everyone went to their classes as the classroom got louder. The second bell rang and everyone shut up when the announcements came on. We stood for O'Canada.

After, Mrs. Kalon handed out our tests. I wrote it thinking long and hard. By the end of the block, I handed in my test and sat back down. I packed up my things and left the class when it was time to switch, headed down to P.E.

I changed into my black leggings and a white T-shirt. I get out a volleyball and pitch it to my partner, Stacey. I served her and we started to rally until then.

"Alright ladies, let's do some drills before we start playing actual games."

She blew the whistle and we hustled to it. We knew if we didn't get to it, we would be doing fifty pushups, or worse. We did our job and served the other team and did our bumps. Going to one win, we switched out with another team who waited on the sideline. After a few rounds, we split up into our groups of six and played kings court. It took the rest of the block until it was time to get changed. I was eager to get out of there so I got changed as fast as I could and rushed out of there. I was sweating when I exited the gym. I rushed to my locker trying to avoid the rush hour traffic that always goes on in this school.

Jamming my gym bag into my packed locker, I scavenge through my locker for my stuff, heading my way to Social.

Lunch rolled around and Kristy still isn't here. I sat with Justin, Jane, and Melody. Melody saw Hudson and Mason walk by, tugging on Mason's sleeve. They stopped and starred. The first thing I noticed is that Hudson still has bags under his eyes.

"Come sit with us."

After the little party at Kristy's, we've become a little closer with the boys, but not fully. Still making progress. They sat down and ate with us. Of course my first concern was Kristy. They said no.

"I've texted and called her, even her house phone which I don't really do." Melody replied, eating her blueberry muffin. "I'm really worried for her. It's not like her to not answer our calls, or not tell us that she wouldn't be here. I glance at Hudson and the poor guy won't stop worrying. When the others finished eating their lunch, they'd packed up and gone to their classes. "Go ahead, I have to do something real quick."

They'd waited a few seconds before quietly sneaking up to Hudson, pinching his arm. He glanced back as I put a finger to my mouth and gestured my head the opposite direction the others were headed. We crept past the rooms and lockers out into the courtyard. We hid in the trees. "Before we go back so the others don't think we're sneaking around and thinking we're doing . . . something. After school, meet me at the front and don't tell anyone. I will meet you there and you will come home with me so we can plan you know what."

He nodded as his baggy eyes drooped down. I could tell he needed sleep. "Don't worry, Hudson. I can tell that you're worried about tonight . . . and I wouldn't blame you. Kind of. Put my full blame on you since you agreed."

"I know." he snarled. He's tired and he's furious. I get it.

"Okay." We headed back in just in time to switch. I took my books and booked it to class since it's on the second floor. I just made it into class when the teacher called my name.

"Here."

"Just in time, Von."

"Sorry."

I sat down getting my things ready. After the attendance, we got our books out ready to learn for the rest of the afternoon.

At the end of the day, I scurried out of the school and booked it to the front. There stood Hudson on his phone waiting for me. He looked up as I approached him tucking his phone away.

"Look, I'm sorry for snapping at you earlier. I'm just stressed out for tonight, plus school. I know what I said about not going to jail, but I don't want to get caught and go to jail."

"I know. It's okay."

We left the school grounds walking together all the way to my comfy home.
