// five //
"Are you out of your mind? Why did you do that?" Aaron backs off, an emotion flickering in his eyes.
"Derek needs to learn that my ego is bigger than his dick." I smirk at him and he gapes at me.
"You're unbelievable!"
"Thanks."
I pick up my bags from the middle of the street and start walking towards my car.
"Where are you going?" I hear him yell behind me so I turn around to face him.
"Home. But if you need a ride I can drop you back." I tell him.
He walks towards me and stops just five feet away, "Are you literally going to pretend that last few minutes didn't happen?"
I shrug before saying, "It's a kiss, people kiss all the time Aaron, get over it."
He looks disappointed with my response but nods with a frown, "Yeah, alright. I am sorry!"
"Do you need a ride home or not?" I cock an eyebrow.
"Nah! I'll pass."
I look at him for a second before turning around and moving towards my car again. I put the grocery at the back and start the engine but just as I am about to leave the parking area I see Aaron still standing alone looking out for a taxi. After reaching him, I roll down the window of my car.
"I promise I don't bite. Now get in the car!" I tell him in a stern voice but he just acts as if he never heard me.
"Aaron! I'm not going to wait for long, just five more seconds. If you don't get in the car I'm driving away and you'll be stuck here forever." I remind him at which narrows his eyes at me.
"Fine!" He gives in and I open the door for him to get inside.
I start the radio and Taylor Swift comes on the station. A huge smile takes over my face as I start singing along her 22! This is basically Ella and my jam, we shout our lungs out when this song comes up.
I look over at Aaron who's just looking at me with a smile on his face which I find extremely creepy but seconds after he averts his gaze to road. Just two minutes ago he was mad at me because I kissed him, I swear in that moment I felt like our roles were switched because it's usually a guy in my shoe and a girl in his. Well, talk about awkward.
When I reach Derek's place, turning towards Aaron I speak up, "Give me your phone."
"Why?" His eyes widen.
"I need to send that picture to myself, that's why genius."
"I deleted it."
"You did not." I shout at him.
"I did."
"Oh c'mon, give me your phone now." I put my hand in front of his face, demanding his phone.
He gives one look of disapproval before handing it to me. Just as I open his gallery a lot of colorful pictures come up and most of them catch my eye. Aaron's gallery is full with Lizzy and his pictures - laughing, playing, smiling, pecking each other's cheeks, hugging and I cannot help but think of a title in mind, 'Made For Each Other'. However at the end is a picture of Aaron and I clearly showing a whore trying her trick on an innocent face. Anyway ignoring all the thoughts, I quickly forward myself the picture.
"Here. Thanks! Don't forget to show this to your brother." I tell him with a smirk and he gives me a look.
"Sorry, but I like my face like this. I ain't going to walk up to him and ask for a black eye." He rolls his eye and I laugh.
"Derek isn't my boyfriend, just in case you forgot. We both kiss other people all the time, he wouldn't give you a black eye for that." I assure him but he just cringes at the thought.
"Thanks for dropping me back." He says before stepping out of the car. I noticed Derek running down the porch and in a second he's grabbing Aaron's collar.
I quickly get out of the car and get by Derek's side, "Are you out of your fucking mind? Leave your brother alone, why are you always ready to attack him?" I hiss at Derek who gives me a glare but let go of Aaron.
"You do not get to ask that Diana! You know everything, from starting to this day, you've known everything and yet you ask me that! And if that was already not enough, you hang out with him?" His tone is accusing but I cannot help but roll my eyes.
"Also kiss him!" I put my phone in front of his face which just makes already deathly glare seem more threatening now.
"You must be doing this on purpose! Oh wait, am I missing on something that you have going on in that mind of yours?" He gives me a look, completely forgetting about Aaron's presence.
"There's nothing much except I need to go to office tomorrow morning and I need to go home and get some sleep." I cross my arms over my chest.
"I'm going in, thanks for the ride Diana. Goodnight." Aaron says.
"Night."
Derek looks at him, throwing daggers from his looks. "You better stay away from her Aaron, it's not even a threat - just a last warning."
"Derek. Let him go." I put my hand at his shoulder.
Aaron doesn't wastes a second as he gets inside his house and I continue staring at Derek.
"You know it really ain't his mistakes that you got shitty parents." I tell him and he sighs.
"But he's the reason they turned shitty."
"Or probably, it's you who grew up and changed. Maybe they've always been like this."
His jaw clenches as he gives me another deathly glare, sure as hell he looks hot but I know he's burning from anger. "Whatever." He says and goes inside his house as well.
"Hey! It's Diana, right?" I hear someone say just as I am about to get in the car. I turn around to find recently familiar face.
"Yeah." I say with a blank face.
"I didn't get a chance to say this, but thank you for letting Aaron and I stay at your place." Lizzy gives out a small smile and I nod before getting into my car and driving off to Uncle Marcel's place.
I park my car as I reach and grabbing the chocolates from the back seat I get out of the car. I make my way towards the lift before pressing the 10th floor button that directly leads to his penthouse.
"You're late, again." Aunt Shelly narrows her eyes at me as soon as the lift opens and I frown. What is it with everyone blaming me for everything?
"Actually, I had to drop back a friend home." I say before entering foyer and making my way to the living room.
"Where is everyone?" I ask as I examine the sight of an empty room.
"Upstairs probably!"
"Okay." I say before jumping on the couch and pulling out my phone out of the pocket.
"Dee!" Aunty Shelly calls me out from my famous nick name and I look at her. Something about her tells me she's nervous and before I can ask what is it about, she speaks up again, "I wanted to talk to you about something."
Her tone catches my attention and I throw my phone besides me before turning to her completely.
"Yes, what happened?"
"Nothing happened, really. Actually, I just wanted you to know that Charlotte will be flying down next month here." She tells me, continuously fidgeting with her fingers, a nervous habit.
The name itself makes me go stiff in my sit as the flashback of what my childhood had gone like comes to my mind. "I -uh, er.. Aunt Shelly, why are you telling me this?"
"Because your Uncle wanted you to know that before she arrived here. We are aware of how hostile you both are to each other and - "
I cut her off, "And Uncle Marcel wants to give me a slight warning to be careful of what might happen after she arrives?" I cock an eyebrow.
"No, actually, that's not it. You know Diana, she'll be getting married soon after she comes here and Marcel wants you to try and improve your relations with her before the wedding." She says in one breath and I look at her as if she just asked for one of my kidneys.
"Are you kidding me! Uncle Marcel said that? He knows how Charlotte is, he knows how she behaves with me and yet I am the one being asked to improve relations with her? Wow!" I throw my hands in the air, exasperation taking me over.
"Diana, we - "
"Wait, did you just say she's getting married?" I gape at her.
"Yes. Her boyfriend proposed to her almost six months back and now they think they are the ready for the responsibility of marriage." She explains to me but all I do is rub my temples.
"Honestly, I thought having dinner here would be something like mind refreshing but it's really proving otherwise." I practically yell the last few words.
The sound of footsteps make me turn back to look at no other than Uncle Marcel climbing down the stairs. He's dressed casually for once, out of his tight body clinging suits, into a blue polo shirt along with black jeans. If anyone ever assumed that he's an old man with grown up beard or bald head, let me just mention that he's actually not that old. He's probably in his mid forties and so is Aunt Shelly, and mind you both of them have looks that are absolutely charming.
"Just because you're awake does not give you right to shout here, some people unlike you have to wake up early in the morning and have to go to bed early as well." He taunts, disappointment dripping his tone.
"Uncle, I am so-"
"I ain't really the right person you're apologizing to, Diana." He looks straight into my eyes, making me look down before he speaks up again, "Anyway, what's the matter here?"
"I just told her about Charlotte." Aunt Shelly says before I have a chance to speak.
"Okay good. I needed to talk to you about that Diana." He says as he takes a seat beside me on the couch. He keeps his hand firmly on mine, a gesture he uses to calm me down.
"Uncle, can I tell you something?" I ask, looking into his brown eyes directly to which he nods and I speak on, "You know that I respect you more than any other person in my life and I would never go against what you say but I am truly disappointed with the fact that I am the one being asked to get on better terms with Charlotte. Everyone here knows how she is to me, from our teenage years itself she has accused me of such cheap things which we both know are far from truth and she still taunts me for that. How can you even expect me to talk to her without remembering all that?"
By the time I finish, my voice is much calmer and the only thing that it sounds like is a plead to the man who has given me this life in form of a gift. I might be a bitch to the world, but to my family, I owe my life. Uncle Marcel has been there for me when no one on this planet even wanted to lend me a helping hand but he gave me a new life which is the person I am now.
"Diana, dear I know everything that you're telling me and trust me, it took a lot in me to ask you that because I'm aware of the fact that you value your self-respect the most and to form this new bond with Lottie will take a lot in you but this is the only thing I've ever asked from you. Despite her being my daughter I never differentiated between you two and the reason I am asking you for this and not her is because I know you'll respect my request more than she ever will." He tells me with a small smile on his face and like always, I give in, because in the end I cannot say 'No' to him after he has done so much for me.
Charlotte might be a bitch but all I have to remember is that she is the one I am doing this for, it's for her father, it's for my Uncle and with that thought in mind I give a smile to him. "Okay Uncle, I'll try my best to get at least on talking terms with her." I give his hand a little squeeze, capturing a small promise.
"Yes, now let's go and eat dinner." He announces and before we head off to the dining table in front of kitchen, Aunt Shelly gives me a tight hug.
"Thank you Diana, you don't know how much it will mean to him when he sees his two daughters not fighting with each other anymore." Her words make a genuine smile take place on my face. See, this is why I love these two people in my life the most, they don't treat me like a burden rather they accept me as their daughter while I am just a spoiled brat.

After having dinner with Uncle Marcel and reminding him of his meetings tomorrow, I head to my apartment where leaving the mess as it is, I head to bed. Tomorrow it's Monday, and I hate monday's because it means more work at the office, assigning of new meetings for the CEO of the company, aka Uncle Marcel and all that shit. The way I look at it, I ain't only a receptionist at S.M Publishing, rather I am also Uncle's personal assistant which only comes hand in hand with the job and knowing him personally.
I always wondered what made Uncle Marcel name his company 'S.M Publishing' until my dumb brain processed it was the Aunty Shelly's and his initials. Well, I wasn't shocked because everyone knows they were High School Sweethearts and -
My thoughts are cut off when my phone starts ringing at this odd hour and I almost cringe at my own ringtone. The caller ID seems anonymous to me and for a second I debate on whether or not to pick up the call but then I finally do.
"Um, hey, I am sorry for calling right now. I know it's one in the morning and I should be sleeping and so should be you, but I really hope you weren't so that I didn't disturb your sleep and I promise I will -"
I cut off the rambling of this stranger guy as I scowl at the screen of my phone. It's really one in the morning but why is this dude calling me right now and rambling without letting me know who even is he?
"Who's this?" I ask, not even trying to keep my rude tone aside.
"Aaron."
