Dusk

Slowly opening his eyes, Ken gazed around. Turning in cramped darkness he squirmed with un-comfort. Feeling something metallic digging into his side, reaching stiff cold fingers toward the object. A seatbelt. His eyes slowly became accustomed to the dark. The hum of a motor, the vibrating of an engine, and the gentle whistle of the wind as it flew by.

"You're up," an unknown voice said.

"Who are you? Where am I? Are we near California?" Ken rattled on.

" Umm, hi? I'm Nadia. I knocked you down on the road a couple of hours ago. Sorry. We are an hour away from Utah. It's the nearest Hospital. Where did you come from?" Nadia asked, craning her neck so he could see her.

lying his head back, Ken processed what she had said.  Hit? By a car? What? Sitting up, Ken looked out the window. Traffic zoomed by, unaware of the saga inside the car.

Sitting on an examination table, ken lay, looking over at Nadia, who sat helplessly as the doctor shone a light into his eyes. Picking at her cotton jumper, she pretended to be reading.

"well, you're healthy, only a mild concussion. You'll be fine in a couple of days. Plenty of rest and here's a prescription for some pills. It will help with headaches." the hunchback, crinkle skinned figure slowly shuffled toward an out of date computer.
