Chapter One
The boy ran has fast has he could. He knew he had to get to the classroom before the others to keep face. After all he was the club president and it would look bad if he was the last one there again. He was known for being kept up by teachers and being late. This time he was going to get there before his best friend.
He opened the door to find two of the club members sitting there. He groaned to himself, late again. Even running at top speed he couldn't make it before Lucy and Alex. He watched the two with what they were doing. Lucy had been watching videos on her phone, looking into it. Alex had been looking at a weird book, seeming confused.
Lucy was a tall, thin girl. She had golden eyes that seemed to sparkle in the light. She had blonde hair that was currently dyed pink. It make her eyes pop. She wasn't much into science like the other two were, but she was there to help the club keep the number of members to the amount that was required by the school. She wore a long sleeved shirt with pink and black strips. She wore her favorite jeans and shoes. She was one of the prettiest girls in school. To Alex and our runner Eric, she was the second prettiest girl. The first was their friend Missy. We will get to her in a bit.
Alex was a tall guy. He had messy brown hair that never stayed styled even if they tried. His dark brown eyes were hidden behind think glasses. He was blind has a bat without his classes. He was wearing a blue shirt with nothing on it. His white jacket kind of looked like a lab coat. His jeans were nice and clean, his shoes red and white. Over all, he was a good looker. He was married to his school work. Most of the girls wanted nothing to do with him since they called him a nerd. It didn't matter to Alex since he was gay. He still wasn't dating anyone, but he was into dudes.
Last of all we had Mr. Late here, Eric. He was the tallest person there. He was almost seven feet tall. He was thin as a twig. He wasn't strong at all. His brown hair was slicked back, being nice and neat compared to Alex's. His green eyes were like hawks; Eric could see things a mile away it seemed. His skin was a dark color, very tanned from the time he spent outside. He wore a black button up shirt with black dress pants. His black shoes were always kept shined and no one could seem to dull them. People tried, don't get that wrong.
These three were the losers of course. They were going places but right now they were at the bottom. They only stayed in this little group, never with anyone else. Of course there was Missy, but it felt like she was never coming back.
Missy was the fourth and final member of the science club. Two weeks ago, she went missing. Her face was plastered everywhere has everyone was trying to find her. She was the prettiest girl to her three friends. Her black hair was the color of a moon and starless night. Her skin was the color of milk in the right light. Her blue eyes sparkled like a lake in the moonlight. The guys wanted to date her. She was taller than Alex, but no where near Eric. She usually wore dresses, her favorite being the purple one. No one had any luck in finding her, and her friends and family were getting nervous on if they would see her again.
"Finally going to come and join I see," Lucy chuckled at Eric. That was given a glare.
"Mrs. Seabury wanted to talk to me. I couldn't get her to stop talking," Eric told her. "I wanted to come sooner."
"You are so easy," Lucy laughed, putting her phone away. "Hey, Alex, want to get your head out of the book?"
"Not really," Alex told them. "I found this book in my attic and I have no idea what is in it. It won't open."
"What do you mean it won't open?" Lucy asked. Alex picked the book up and with what seemed to be all his strength tried to pull the pages apart. Nothing he did made the book open. The three stood around the book, looking down at the cover.
It was a black leather book. The front had a tree on it, seeming to have a glow to it. It seemed both dangerous and lovely. Each person wanted to know the secrets in the book's pages. Lucy picked the book up, trying her best to pull the pages apart. All that happened was her getting tired and having to sit down.
He didn't know why, but something was telling Eric to not touch the book. He wanted to see what was inside, but it seemed like his mind was screaming no. He didn't understand. It was just a book. Books were meant to be opened. Unless something dangerous is inside, he thought. Though he brushed that thought away. It was a book. What could be so scary about a book. He placed his hand on the tree, trying to decide what to do.
Suddenly, he felt a cold chill run down his spine. It was like a hand made of ice ran down his bare skin. He couldn't describe why. He just felt cold. Lucy and Alex noticed the way he started to shiver. It didn't seem natural. After all the room was pretty warm. All of a sudden he just got cold. They pulled him to the front of the room and pilled him with their jackets. They ran out and got him blankets and wrapped him up. After a long while, he was finally feeling warm. He stood up and stared at the book.
The thoughts telling him to stay away were gone. Now he wanted more than ever to have the book. He smiled a bit, looking like he was under a spell, though his friends didn't noticed.
"Hey Alex, can I take the book home and see if I can read it?" he asked.
"Sure Eric. You going to be okay?"
"Yes. I just have to see what is in this book. I think it'll be an interesting read if I can get it opened."
