39. Changing

Ame sat outside a changing room in the department store later that morning after they had finally managed to get Charming ready for the day. She was currently situated on a bench outside the changing room with a small pile of clothes beside her that Jungkook had already helped Charming try on. Ame was letting Jungkook have the final say on what to buy for Charming since she had absolutely no idea what was fashionable on a man. Currently, Jungkook and Charming were in a changing room stall together trying on yet another shirt.

The changing room door clicked open then, and Jungkook emerged before Charming with a shirt. Even though Ame couldn't properly see Jungkook's face now due to his disguise, she could tell he was exasperated.

"This is too complicated for him," said Jungkook as he handed Ame a button up. "We're going to have to stick to one piece shirts for him."

"Ummm..."

"What?" asked Jungkook hearing Ame, watching her nod her head towards whatever was behind him.

Emerging from the changing room behind him was Charming with a shirt stuck over the top of his head; his entire face covered.

"Seriously?" said Jungkook with a sigh as he walked over to Charming. "Stick your arms out through the top."

At this point, Charming was pretty much flashing his hairless six pack to the entire department store. Ame turned to look behind her to see a few women had stopped their shopping to stare his way. She could practically see them salivating from there. What was this? Single lady shopping hour? When Ame turned back around to look at Jungkook, she saw that he was still wrestling with Charming to get him to wear the shirt properly.

"Stick your arms out the top!" Jungkook repeated

"I am," insisted Charming.

He had indeed listened to Jungkook, but currently had both arms sticking out where the head was supposed to instead of out either sleeve. Jungkook was trying his best to wrestle the shirt down to cover Charming up.

"Um...I am starting to have a hard time breathing," said Charming as Jungkook was trying (and failing) to do so where he stood.

Ame wasn't sure what Jungkook was mumbling under his breath at this point, but watched as he sheparded Charming and his exposed abs back into the changing room, slamming the door shut behind him.

"You're impossible," said Jungkook just loud enough for Charming to hear as the two of them stood in the cramped changing room.

Jungkook yanked the entire shirt off Charming's head as he tried to readjust it.

"Now, stick one arm through this hole," said Jungkook pointing at one sleeve before tapping at the other, "And one arm through this hole."

"Okay," said Charming as Jungkook just nodded his head, trying to help Charming get the shirt on again.

This time - with Jungkook's help - there was success. Charming turned to look at himself in the mirror once the white and blue striped shirt was on.

"What do you think?" asked Jungkook.

"I think it looks nice," said Charming, "But can you find some black clothes for me to wear?"

"Black?"

Charming nodded.

"That will be more familiar to Ame. I want to make her comfortable."

"She lets you call her Ame?" Jungkook asked before realizing he had asked the question.

"Well yeah. That's her name. Why? What do you call her?"

"Never mind," said Jungkook. "Stay here. I'll see what I can find."

Jungkook unlocked the changing room door as he stepped out. Ame still sat where she had been when he went in. Jungkook walked right past her to look in the men's section for some black clothing for Charming to try on. He was so immersed in what he was doing he didn't realize that Ame had come over to him.

"Finding more clothes for him to try?" she asked.

He nodded his head as he drew a few black shirts and a blazer off the rack, looking over at her.

"Luckily no spit is involved with this," said Jungkook reminding her of that morning.

Ame smirked as she watched him walk back to the changing room where Charming was surprisingly waiting for him. Jungkook shoved the clothes at him.

"Try these on to see what you think. You need to try this by yourself now too. I'm staying out of the changing room."

Ame looked over at Jungkook who swung the changing room door shut as Charming just went to stripping without closing it. Jungkook kept a hand along the top of the door to keep it shut since Charming didn't know how to lock it for himself. Before Ame could walk back over to the changing room area, a woman approached her. She was wearing a white spaghetti strap tank top with a jean jacket over it, and very ripped up jeans. They almost looked as if they had gone through a shredder.

"So which one of those men is your boyfriend?" she asked Ame.

"What?" Completely taken aback by the question, Ame whipped her head sideways to look at the woman. "Excuse me?"

"Which one is your boyfriend?" the woman asked again. "Is it ab man or the dark and mysterious one?"

"Neither," Ame said as she looked at the woman. "Why?"

"Just curious," she said; her eyes lighting up at the fact that they were both single. "You know that's just odd, right? I mean, I could have sworn you'd be dating at least one of them. They are both catches."

'Are you here to shop for clothes or a man?' Ame thought as she watched the woman walk off in as sexy and appealing of a way as possible.

When the woman disappeared, Ame walked back over to where Jungkook still stood with one arm up in the air to keep the changing room door shut.

"I didn't think clothes shopping would turn into mission impossible," said Jungkook as he looked at her.

"Charming will learn in time," said Ame. "Just be patient."

"I've been spat on and have been helping a grown man learn how to dress himself for two straight hours. What is your definition of patient, Ame?"

"Amethyst."

"Right," said Jungkook. "I forgot I'm not a friend."

Ame was silent for a moment. Ruby's words from earlier that morning combined with the woman who had just randomly come up to her made Ame feel guilty for how she was treating Jungkook. Not every man would deal with what she had put him through.

"I'm sorry," she said to Jungkook's surprise as he snapped his head her way.

"You're what?"

"I'm sorry," Ame repeated. "I keep thinking you are here to be my Prince Charming. I'm not looking for that."

"Okay?" said Jungkook, waiting for Ame to continue.

"All I'm looking for right now is a cover of sorts," she said. "Someone to just be there for me. Someone I can count on. I'm just afraid you're going to disappear."

Charming moved to try to open the changing room door just then. Jungkook tried to play it off by gripping it tighter with his hand and keeping it pressed hard against the doorframe. He didn't need Charming interrupting the conversation right then.

"Why are you saying this now?" Jungkook asked. "This isn't like you."

Ame rolled her eyes.

"Because my sister told me to stop treating you like the enemy," she said. "But I'm right, aren't I? You're just going to disappear in the end, so why bother getting to know you?"

"And if I didn't," he said, "If I didn't disappear, would that matter to you?"

"Uhhh...I think the door is broken," said Charming, butting in before Ame could reply. "I can't get it open."

Jungkook sighed as he let go of the door with his hand. Charming suddenly burst out of the changing room as the door swung open, looking back and forth between the two of them. Charming had the black v-neck shirt on like a hat; his chest fully exposed for all the world to see.

"HEY SEXY!" screeched a woman walking by.

Ame turned then to look at the fangirling woman. What was wrong with her? Was there a full moon?

"Hey!" Charming said as he waved back at the woman, thinking she was being friendly. "My name isn't Sexy though. It's Charming! Nice to meet you!"

"I'd better go get him dressed before the women in the department store think they are going to get a show," said Jungkook as he ushered Charming back into the changing room. "We'll continue this conversation later."

Ame couldn't help but laugh lightly as Jungkook called Charming an imbecile as he practically shoved him back into the changing room and shut the door again. Ame didn't know why she had told Jungkook all those things just then. It made her feel vulnerable and she didn't like that. Not to mention he hadn't confirmed whether or not he'd end up disappearing in the end. Ame didn't want to get too attached if that was the outcome.

'We'll continue this conversation later,' Ame thought. 'But will that really change how I feel?'
