Chapter 5: Glowing light
Amon's POV
Milo and I finish laying the table, and then we all have dinner together. Elena and Mike start asking a lot of questions about the coven, magic, and our relationship. Now that I think about it, Milo and I have only been dating for like 5 days.
But we spent so much time together over the past two months, so it feels very natural and comfortable. We both should have made the first step a lot earlier, but we were too scared and a little stupid. But, hey, at least we got there in the end.
The more I get to know Milo, the more I realize how badly he was treated in the coven. And I'm not just talking about the physical abuse, which is bad enough. But they definitely verbally and mentally abused him, too. He's really self-conscious, and it makes me sad.
I think he's starting to feel a bit more comfortable around my friends because he starts talking a bit more and jokes around more. I'm happy they all get along. Not that I doubted it, but it's still relieving.
After dinner, Milo turns to me. "Do you think we should call Sophia? Just to see what's going on."
"Sure, that seems like a good idea."
We tell Elena and Mike that we have to make a call and walk into the guest room where we're staying. Milo dials and puts the call on speaker. It rings a few times.
"Hello?"
"Sophia, it's us," Milo just says.
It's quiet for a few seconds. "Hold on." About half a minute later, she speaks again. "I needed to find a quiet place. Are you two okay?"
"Yeah, we're okay. What about you and Philo?" Milo asks.
"Yeah, all good. Listen... Caspian is gonna try to find you. And he's seriously pissed that you disobeyed his orders. If he gets to you..." She pauses. "It's not going to end well. So please, be careful."
"Did he send people after us?" I ask.
"Oh, hey there. Yeah, pretty sure people went looking for you. Where are you?"
"We can't tell you. Maybe they're going to try to get it out of you with a spell", Milo says before I can reply, "it's better if you know as little as possible."
Sophia sighs. "You're right. I wish I could help you more, but all I can do for the moment is to update you guys. Call me whenever you need anything, okay?"
"We will. Thank you. But make sure you and Philo stay safe", Milo replies.
"Of course, don't worry about us. We got this, I promise. Stay safe, boys. Talk to you soon."
"Bye," we say in unison and hang up.
I sigh. "Well, that sounds bad."
"Yeah," Milo says absently.
I look at him for a few seconds. I'm so fucking worried about him. Caspian is technically only after him because he was the one who disobeyed his orders. I need to protect Milo at all costs.
"We'll make sure he doesn't get to us. I'll make sure he won't hurt you again", I say gently, and he smiles softly.
"You're very sweet, do you know that?"
I smile. "Thanks, but you're sweeter," I reply, and he chuckles and blushes a little. He leans closer and kisses me gently, then he carefully places his hands on my neck so he can kiss me more passionately. I smile into the kiss as he barely wants to let go of me.
"You're kinda greedy today," I mumble when we eventually do let go.
He chuckles, his cheeks being slightly pink. "Well, yeah, I... I'm just really in love with you, you know?"
I smile back at him and kiss him again, softly pushing him down on the bed. I kiss his lips before kissing his neck a few times and leaving a few hickeys and then moving lower.
It's only the second time we sleep with each other, so we're both still a bit nervous. But I feel comfortable around him, and I think he feels the same way about me. We make sure to take things slow and communicate enough.
And again, it feels wonderful, and I think Milo enjoyed it too. We cuddle a bit afterward, and for once, Milo seems really calm. He's been so anxious the past few days, especially today. But he seems relaxed right now, and I'm happy about that.
He ends up falling asleep in my arms pretty soon.
A week passes without really anything happening. I feel a bit bad that we're staying at Mike's place for so long without paying him, but he assures me it's fine.
Especially since we do his chores with magic, and he doesn't have to do them anymore. He's very happy about how much time he suddenly has.
Elena and Mike both really like Milo. I mean, duh. He's the best, after all. I don't see a single reason why they wouldn't like him.
On Wednesday, I'm cleaning the kitchen after Mike left for work. Milo walks up to me and sighs.
"I always just wanna let the mail float up to us, but I can't risk anyone seeing flying mail," he mumbles, and I laugh a little.
"It's really not that far away, babe."
He smiles. "I know, I'm just used to doing everything with magic. I'll get the mail."
I smile to myself as he leaves the apartment and walks downstairs.
A few minutes pass, and Milo isn't back yet. Hm, weird. He doesn't usually take this long. Maybe he's talking to a neighbor.
I wait another 5 minutes, and he's still not back. I look out of the window. Fuck, he's not there. I walk down the stairway, outside to the mailbox.
I can't see Milo anywhere. Shit, shit, this is really bad.
What if it's Caspian?
I run back upstairs and try calling him, but he doesn't pick up. Oh god, oh no, what do I do?
I can't let him get hurt. I said I'd protect him, and now he's gone, and I don't know where he is and what's going on or if he's okay.
Suddenly, I see a purple light on a shelf. I realize it's the brooch Milo gave to me.
The light around it seems to be forming an arrow. I frown at it for a second. Maybe it's pointing in the direction of the other brooch, and Milo has it on him?
I grab it and get my keys and wallet and run downstairs. I get in the car and start driving.
I quickly dial Sophia's number and put her on speaker while I follow the glowing arrow.
"Hello?"
"Sophia, i-it's me."
"You sound upset, is everything okay?"
My voice is shaking heavily, and I have to focus a lot to stay calm. "No, it's not. Milo disappeared, and now I'm following that arrow that's coming from this brooch Milo gave to me" I sniff. "What if something happened to him and I can't get to him fast enough and-"
"Hey, wow, slow down."
I take a deep breath. "Sorry," I mumble, "I'm just so scared that Caspian got to him."
It's quiet for a few seconds. "Caspian left earlier."
Oh no. I gulp. "Wh-what should I do? Do you think they'll take him to the coven?"
"I... I'm not sure. I don't think so. If I get any news, I'll let you know. For now, keep following the arrow, okay?"
I gulp again. "Okay. Thanks."
"Call me when you know more, okay?"
"Okay. Bye."
"Bye."
She hangs up, and I take a deep breath.
What if Milo is in serious danger? What if they hurt him? I said I would protect him. I promised him.
It takes a lot for me not to start crying, and I struggle to focus on the road. I just have to find him before anything happens to him.
