Night Horrors
Tigress sat down in her bed, relieved to be able to move about once again. She wasn't a fan of staying in bed and being given the royal treatment, so when she was finally able to move around today, she was bounding with joy. (Or she would have been had Shifu and the doctor not told her to take it easy). As she layed down, she heard Viper slither into the room and say, "You seem happy today. I'm assuming it's from getting your freedom back."
Tigress sat up to look at her. "Well, I can't do kung fu," she said, "But close enough." She let out a small laugh. "You know," she added. "I never knew how much I enjoyed walking until today."
Viper giggled. "I could tell you were happy to get out of the barracks," she acknowledged. "Four more weeks, and you can join us in the training hall."
"Then I'll really be enjoying myself."
"I'll bet."
The serpent master yawned. "Well, I'd better head off to bed," she announced. "Just came in to say thanks for the constant critiquing, but you do realize that we're just recovering from a fight, right?"
Tigress rolled her eyes. "You had a week of rest and you've been practicing for four days," the master answered. "You should be pushing yourself a little more."
"Well, we'll let Shifu dictate that one," Viper replied with a grin.
"Fair enough. Goodnight, Viper."
"Goodnight, Tigress."
The master layed down again, blowing out her lantern and going to bed, ecstatic to be able to come and go from her room whenever she pleased now.
Po came into his room about ten minutes later after talking to Master Shifu about focusing on his meditation. (Which was being hindered due to the battle with Lord Shen still lurking at the front of everyone's mind). He let out a yawn and layed down on his bed, squirming around a little bit in order to get into a comfortable position. After a minute, he started to fall asleep alongside his fellow masters.
The air was cold and the night loomed around him with an empty blackness. Echoing laughs filled the air, causing Mantis to shrink back, hitting his back against the steel bars of the iron cage he was in. Starting to panic, the bug tried to feel around for a lock so as to get out, but alas, he could find none. The mocking cackle from the darkness chilled him to the bone and he tried to find another way out. The cage began to rattle and bright streaks flew past him in all directions, startling him. The cannons came closer and closer and closer until one of them ripped through the cage, taking the poor bug along for the ride. Mantis let out a scream of terror as he went sailing through the air and towards a wall, hitting it and blacking out....
Mantis awoke with a cry of terror. He took a few deep breaths to calm himself down and tried to go back to sleep. Monkey, who had been woken up by his friend, called over, "Are you okay, Mantis?"
"I'm fine," Mantis answered back quietly, trying to not wake anyone else up. He then went back to sleep and hoped that he didn't dream about dying again.
Loud shrieks rang through the master's head as he tried to dodge all of the cannons being fired at him from unknown sources. He tried to fly clear out of the way, but it seemed that no matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't escape the danger. The mountains of safety that loomed beyond seemed unreachable as no matter how hard he flew, he was unable to get there. Pain shot up his wing as another cannon flew past and Crane was horrified to see that his wing was completely damaged. He began to fall down towards the ground, his surroundings blurring as he continued to plummet an an alarmingly fast speed. He tried to fly up but to no avail as his injured wing didn't allow him to catch any air. He then crahed onto the ground with a loud thud, blacking out as his head began to ring louder and louder and louder and louder....
"Crane?"
The master woke up with a start, his face drenched in sweat from the dream. He glanced up, seeing Viper and Mantis standing worriedly over him.
"Hey, are you okay?" Mantis asked. "You were muttering really loud in your sleep."
"And you're sweating death," Viper added, trying to wipe some of it off the master's forehead.
"I-I-I-I'm fine," Crane assured them, ducking away and turning slighly red under Viper's touch. "I just...I just had a bad dream, that's all."
"Oh, you too?" Mantis asked.
"I don't think anyone's had a good night sleep since our battle with Shen," Viper noted.
"Well, it's like Shifu said," Crane told the two masters. "We'll get over the memories in a little bit. Just give it time."
"Yeah, a lot of time," Mantis muttered.
Crane yawned. "Maybe we should get back to sleep," he suggested.
VIper nodded, "That's probably a good idea," she said. She began to slither out of the room with Mantis in tow. "Goodnight, Crane," she called over.
"Good night."
His wrists were tied tightly behind his back and chains were wrapped tightly around him so that he couldn't escape. The master tried to move away from the pole that he was tied to, but was unable to do so as the chains seared throughout his entire body. Monkey's eyes darted back and forth, trying to pick out any shapes in the smoky darkness. There was an eery silence for a moment as the master tried to squirm free and then suddenly, there was a chilling sound piercing through the air. It sounded like the beginning of a cackle, but it was also fuzzy enough to sound like someone's breath. Monkey's heart began to increase its speed in fear and he tried desperately to escape, but a fiery ball came flying at him and hitting him straight on....
Monkey woke up with a start, trying not to let out any cries of alarm so that he didn't wake anyone else up. He took a few breaths to steady himself, looking around so as to reassure himself of his safety. After a minute, the master finally relaxed enough to go back to sleep.
Po and Shen started to laugh crazily, the masters looking at them funnily.
"Why are we laughing?" Po exclaimed, starting to calm down.
Shen, having calmed down as well, said simply, "Take aim."
The cannon began to lower as Viper feverishly tried to work at the handcuffs. However, she just couldn't figure out how to get the tumblers to turn so as to get the handcuffs open. While she struggled at this task, Shen said, "Fire."
Viper heard the cannon go off and a whizzing sound from the weapon was enough to make her blood run cold as a cannonball slammed into her and her friends, causing them to fly out of the tower and onto the ground below. Viper felt all of her air being pushed out as she tried to glance at any of her friends.
NO! she thought. No, it can't be! I....I was supposed to help them get free! She tried to find anyone, but her vison grew fuzzy and she felt weak, starting to slip into an unconscious state....
Viper woke up with a loud gasp, glancing around her room, but seeing nothing but her walls. Right, I got the handcuffs open, she reminded herself. She let out a small sigh and layed her exhausted head back on her bed.
"Viper?" whispered Crane from behind her door. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," Viper assured him. "Just had a bad dream; that's all."
"Oh, alright. Well, um...good night."
"Goodnight."
"PO!"
Po felt himself being pushed out of the way before Shen's cannon fired. Suddenly, a loud blast erupted, sending all of the boats flying backwards and singing nearly all of the masters. Po skidded across the water, hitting his head hard against one of the floating boards. He coughed from the water that made its way into his lungs and looked up, seeing everyone motionless. No one looked up or even flinched and the Dragon Warrior could see a scarlet color looming across the surface of the water. Frantically, the master swam over to Tigress who layed still on one of the nearbye boards. "Tigress?" he called gently.
No answer. "Tigress?!" Po exclaimed, his voice rising. When the master still didn't answer him, Po felt a lump rise up in his throat. From behind him, he could hear Shen cackling, and a wave of horror washed over him. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Po woke up in fright, the terror still clinging tightly to him. Tigress! he thought, the image of her blood staining the water still fresh in his mind. The Dragon Warrior raced out of his room and into hers, meeting up with her in her doorway.
"Po, ar-oof!" Tigress began, interrupted when Po embraced her in a tight hug. After a second, he realized who it was that he was hugging and he let go. Clearing his throat, the Dragon Warrior said sheepishly, "Uh, s-sorry, Tigress. I just...I'm just glad you're okay, that's all."
"Another Lord Shen dream?" Tigress asked.
Po nodded. "He killed everyone!" he exclaimed. "A-a-and there was blood a-a-and you guys weren't moving, a-a-a-and-"
Tigress silenced him by putting a finger to his mouth. When Po stopped talking, she put a paw firmly on his shoulders and said, "I'm right here, Po. And as long as you continue to fight with everything you've got, I'm going to continue to be right here." She smiled at him. "Okay?" she asked.
Po nodded. "I know," he said. "It's just...it felt so real!"
"I think it's going to be like that for a while," Tigress told him. "But don't worry. We'll recover from the experience."
"I'm sure we will."
There was a small moment of silence until Po cleared his throat. "Well, um...good night," he told the tiger master.
"Good night, Dragon Warrior," Tigress answered back, going back into her room and trying to get some sleep.
