It began to snow...

For as long as I've been alive. This cold wonderful phenomenon has brought me nothing, but pain. For each and every time I am reminded of this beautiful weather anomaly, I remember nothing but the pain of loss.

First it was my Mother.

A person who I do not recall at all. All I know of her is that she loved me dearly to the point where she gave her life for mine to be born and on that day it snowed.

Then it was my Grandpa.

Just like my mother, he died loving me to the very end and again as my mother did, he died on a night where the snow littered the sky.

And now...

This... feeling... it hurts.

It hurts so much. To lose someone so important, to lose someone that you cared for dearly, to lose someone you love so much. There's just no words to describe how this feels at all and to me these people were just strangers at one point. I eventually came to love them as family, however that fact still remains that I was nothing but a stranger to them who came into their lives, but for them..

I thought to myself as I looked towards Tanjiro as he was on his knees praying in front of five graves while Nezuko was standing right next to him staring blankly at the graves.

Those two must be the most affected by this, my pain pales in comparison to theirs. Especially Tanjiro, he must feel guilty for not having been there at the time and moment this happened to his family. I even curse myself for not being here a day sooner, maybe I could have saved them.

I clenched my fist in anger, how could this have happened to such good people. I don't understand it, not to mention that this was all due to demons?

Damnit!! Why couldn't I have saved them when they needed me the most?! Damnit... damnit... damnit...

I then saw Tanjiro rise up from his current position and tightly grab Nezuko's hand. I could only look at the siblings with empathy.

Not only did Tanjiro lose his family, the current Nezuko standing beside him was turned into a demon. She now had a muzzle made out of bamboo covering her mouth to prevent her from eating any human. Now Tanjiro and I are determined to find a man named Urokodaki Sakonji, supposedly he was suppose to help us with our current condition. We don't know how he's going to help us, but that Demon Slayer Tomioka Giyu told us to seek him out.

(Y/N): Tanjiro, we should get going before the sun comes out..

Tanjiro: Mhm... I-I'm sorry it's just hard...

He stated at a lost of words as his gazed descended to the graves once again. I walked towards the two on them about a hand on Tanjiro's shoulder to comfort him.

(Y/N): I know, I know this must hurt a lot, but right now we have to do what we can for Nezuko.

Tanjiro: R-right... we have to find a way to turn Nezuko back into a human! We have to! Let's go (Y/N), Nezuko.

Nezuko stayed silent while I just gave a nod. He then took one last look at his families grave and then proceed to walk ahead with Nezuko holding hands.

Before walking off I too gave one final look towards the graves of the Kamado family. A look of sadness soon found itself on my face.

(Y/N): They say don't pity the dead, but to pity the living for they have to continue living in such a cold and cruel world... but it was too soon for you all. Was this the world you wanted me to see, Grandpa...? Such a cold and harsh world...?

I couldn't help but question as I lowered my head and offered a silent prayer so they could rest easy in the afterlife. Not wanting to fall behind Tanjiro and Nezuko I raised my head and turned around. As I was about to walk away that was until I felt something, I quickly turned around only to see I was all alone.

(Y/N): I could've sworn I felt someone else with me. Must be my imagination.... e-ehh...?

I said in surprise as I felt something slide down my cheek. It was wet and insignificant, yet it was there, it was a tear.

(Y/N): H-huh... why am I crying?

I question as I began to walk away, but I stopped as soon as I heard a voice. This time I wasted no time in turning around as I found this voice to be familiar.

This voice?! It can't be?!

What I saw froze me... there I saw them standing... it was the Kamado family. They all stood their silent... not one of them dared to say a word, but I could understand what they wanted to convey, I could feel it.

(Y/N): Don't worry... I can feel it. Your sadness... you pain and your regrets.... Ma'am, Takeo, Hinoka, Shigeru, Rokuta... I promise I'll watch over Tanjiro and Nezuko! No matter what happens or what I have to go through! So please just rest...

A stronger sadness overtook me as I could see the look on their faces. They each gave a sad smile...then one by one the each started to fade away.

I promise.

Clearing my mind and wiping my tears, I set out to catch up to Nezuko and Tanjiro. I failed to keep their family safe but I won't fail to keep these two safe.

This world... I'll find out what it is about it that made my Grandpa tell me to go explore it and as I go find my answer I'll protect the both of them no matter what.

(Y/N): That is my promise to you, Grandpa and to you too everyone.

I said referring to the Kamado family as I sped to reach up to both Tanjiro and Nezuko who stopped after noticing that I wasn't following behind them.

Tanjiro: (Y/N)? Is everything alright...?

(Y/N): Mhm...

I said nodding while trying to avoid the question, I didn't want to concern Tanjiro any further after everything that has happened.

Tanjiro: Okay. Come on let's go.

(Y/N): Mhm... lets go to find this Urokodaki that Giyu-san told us about.

Tanjiro: Right... lets move out.

And with that the three of us made our way towards the location that Tomioka Giyu, to Mt. Sagiri. With that we went off and took our first steps to find a cure to turn Nezuko back into a human.

~(Y/N)'s Pov~

On our way to find this Urokodaki, our adventure came to an abrupt stop considering the fact that it was now currently day time. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, however due to the warning that was given to us by Tomioka Giyu, which was to avoid exposing Nezuko to any daylight. The reasoning for that escaped both Tanjiro and I, but nonetheless we took that advice to heart. Now here I was standing next to a small cave defending Nezuko who was currently hiding from the potential threat of sunlight inside the cave.

(Y/N): Geez... how long is it going to take for Tanjiro to get back here...?

I asked this question to no one specific and the bright sun shined down on us all. I was about to go out to find him that was until I heard something from within the cave. Concern growing in my mind I decided to walk into the cave to see if Nezuko was alright.

(Y/N): Nezuko...? Are you alright?

Upon entering, I noticed that the cave was completely devoid of any life. This made me even more concern as I started to look around for Nezuko.

(Y/N): Nezuko?! Where did you go?

Tanjiro: (Y/N)!! Nezuko!

Tanjiro called out from outside the cave as he then came into it in search of us. Upon entering he too took notice of Nezuko's disappearance and started to panic.

Tanjiro: Nezuko?! She's gone?! (Y/N) where did she go?!

(Y/N): I don't know?! She didn't leave the cave!

All of a sudden Nezuko's head poked out from a hole in the ground. Instant relief came upon Tanjiro and I as we both walked towards her.

Tanjiro: There she is.

(Y/N): Ahh... geez you worried us, Nezuko.

Nezuko: Mhmmm...

Tanjiro: She dug a hole...? My kid sister has turned into a mole...

(Y/N): She must really not like the sun to go to this extent to avoid it.

I said as I took a look at Nezuko's face and then noticed the expression on it. It seems like she's frowning, but the bamboo muzzle is preventing us from seeing it.

Tanjiro: Yeah, but don't worry I have a way to solve that problem! Wait there for a second, Nezuko! (Y/N) come help me chop the bamboo!

(Y/N): E-eh but you only have one axe?

Tanjiro: Use your katana!

(Y/N): Eh?! This is a weapon to use only in battle not just for any daily task?!

Tanjiro: Just use it! This is for Nezuko's sake!

(Y/N): A-Ah... no fair using Nezuko like that... fine hand me some bamboo.

Tanjiro: That's the spirit! Let's go!

Then in no tine at all, both Tanjiro and I finished cutting the bamboo in half, Tanjiro using his axe and as for me, I was using my katana. After that was said and done Tanjiro wasted no time in wrapping the chopped up line of bamboo to wrap it around a very damaged basket he had with him.

(Y/N): Where did you get this stuff from anyway?

Tanjiro: I bought it from some nice people not to far from here, though I just gave them pocket change for it.

(Y/N): For damaged stuff like this... Tanjiro you really are too kind...

Tanjiro: It didn't feel right otherwise.

(Y/N): Sigh... I might have to teach you a thing or two about being more assertive...

Tanjiro: What was that?

He said clearly focused on finishing the basket rather then the conversation that we were having. I just shook my head and waved him off.

(Y/N): It was nothing, just focus on finishing up so we can continue moving on.

Tanjiro: Right! And it shouldn't be too long since I'm just about... Ahh finished!!

He said as he raised the basket with his two hands and then proceeded to rush into the cave to show Nezuko. I walked close behind him to see what he intended to do with it.

Tanjiro: Nezuko? Nezuko? Think you can fit inside this? I want to keep moving during the day, too. I'll carry you, okay?

(Y/N): Eh...? So that's what you planned... ya know Tanjiro, Nezuko is a lot bigger then that basket.

Nezuko: Hmmm....?

Nezuko could only stare blankly at what Tanjiro was proposing her to do. I sighed and brought a hand to my forehead.

Tanjiro: Can you fit in? In here? Basket?

He said pointing to the basket as he kept repeating himself until he was sure that Nezuko would understand completely.

(Y/N): I'm telling you this isn't going to work out. She probably doesn't even-... ah.

I was cut off as she climbed out of the hole she dug and then crawled into the basket which proved that she was too big for it. For some reason Tanjiro seemed to have chuckled at the adorable sight of her trying to get into the basket. I couldn't help but smile either considering that this was Nezuko that we were talking about.

Tanjiro: Hmm Nezuko? Remember how you became big like an adult earlier? Do you think you can do the opposite? Get smaller? Smaller Nezuko. Get smaller!

(Y/N): What are you even talking about at this point...?

She then dived into the basket while simultaneously standing it upright. I thought it wasn't going to work out since she's bigger then the basket, but then all of a sudden she shrunk?!

(Y/N): W-wait? What?! How?!

She the poked her head out and I couldn't help but slightly turn red at the sight of a younger version of Nezuko.

K-k-kawaii....

I thought to myself as Tanjiro started to verbally express how impressed he is to Nezuko.

Tanjiro: Ohhh?! Good job! That's a good girl Nezuko! I'm impressed.

Tanjiro then began giving Nezuko a pat on the head for doing such a good job. At this point I wanted to give her a pat on the head too, but I resisted.

Tanjiro: See, (Y/N) it worked!

(Y/N): Can demons change their shape and size...?

Tanjiro:... I have no idea...? All I know is that Nezuko could do this all of a sudden.

(Y/N): I see.

Tanjiro: Yeah.

(Y/N): One more question... is this how Nezuko was when she was a little girl?

Tanjiro: Yeah!! Though her hair was a lot shorter, but she looks exactly like she did when she was younger! She really cute isn't she?!

(Y/N): Y-yeah... I wonder if... our kid- actually scratch that...

I turned red at the thought as Tanjiro questioned what I said.

Tanjiro: What was that?

(Y/N): N-nothing lets just continue on with our journey!?

I said rushing to leave the cave before finishing that embarrassing question. Tanjiro could only look at me in confusing as he picked the basket up, wrapped around in a large cloth, and then carried it on his back with Nezuko still in it. Then he proceeded to follow me as I stayed some way ahead of them.

Tanjiro: Hmm... weird?

After some time of walking the sun was now setting, both Tanjiro and I were walking at the same speed trying to find the right path to Mt. Sagiri. We even thought to ask some of the locals for directions to this mountain.

Village Local ???: Mt Sagiri? If you want to go to Mt. Sagiri you'll have to cross over that mountain, but... the suns about to set. Are you two really heading over there with all that luggage? It's dangerous, you know?

Tanjiro: I'll be careful.

(Y/N): I'll watch his back so don't worry much, Ma'am.

(Y/N)/ Tanjiro: Thank you so much!

We both said simultaneously as we then gave a bow in respect and gratitude considering she cared about our safety. We both then carried on our way to find Mt. Sagiri, however before we got far enough the village lady yelled something out.

Village Local ???: People have gone missing lately! Try not to lose your way!

We heard her say as we kept on walking Tanjiro responded but raising his hand as one final goodbye. I smiled a bit hearing that.

(Y/N): So this is what people are like in the outside world, huh...?

Tanjiro: Hmmm did you say something, (Y/N)?

(Y/N): No, nothing. Let's just move on.

Tanjiro: Right! Let's go!

After a couple more hours of walking it was now finally night time. Seeing this we wasted no time in allowing Nezuko to come out of the basket and walk alongside us. Tanjiro and Nezuko both held hands as they walked , meanwhile I was walking right next to them.

(Y/N): It must've been cramped in there huh, Nezuko.

I asked her only getting silence as a response, knowing her condition it didn't really bother me. Still I couldn't help but feel...-

Tanjiro: Oh... there's a temple over there.

Tanjiro stated snapping me out of my thoughts as we all looked towards what Tanjiro pointed out. He was right, there's a set of stairs leading up to a hill that led to the small temple. It looked like there were people in it considering that we could see light leaking through the screen door.

Tanjiro; There's light leaking through so someone must be there.

(Y/N): Think we should check it out? Maybe find a place to stay?

Tanjiro: Yeah, that's probably for the best right n-...

Tanjiro then all of a sudden stopped talking as a look of fear and panic crossed his face. He then began to look around, I was confused by this until I sensed something. Following his action I began to look around as we both came to the conclusion that what we sensed was coming from the temple.

Tanjiro: I smell blood?! The mountain path is pretty rough! Someone must've gotten hurt!!

Tanjiro said as he began running towards the temple dragging Nezuko along with him. I attempted to reach out and stop him, but he rushed up the stairs before I could do a thing. Quickly giving chase I tried to call out to him.

(Y/N): W-wait Tanjiro!! I sense a malicious intent coming from there!!

It was too late however, just as I made it up the stairs Tanjiro reached the temple, he then slid the door open and what he witnessed in there was something gruesome.

The sound of something chewing on flesh could be heard... the smell of iron reeked in the air even from where I stood. In the temple room were multiple dead bodies and in the center of it all looked to be a man eating the corpse that laid all around the room.

????: What the hell? This is my turf. If you break into my territory, I'll make you pay!

The man spoke out as he turned around allowing us to get a good look at him. He was an older male with green hair and a large build, blood splattered all around his face. His bloodshot eyes were enough to send a message to anyone who faced off with him. A message of fear. I saw that Tanjiro stood there frozen in fear of what he saw, I too was a bit shocked as I never seen anything like this before.

(Y/N): A-a demon?!

Meanwhile, Nezuko stood still for a different reason. I may not know the reason, but the fact stands as she looked at what was in the temple she began to shake as drool dripped from her chin.

????: Ehhh?!

The older male with green hair hummed as he got up and began to lick the blood that covered his fingers, as he got a good look at Nezuko.

????: There's something off about you? Are you both human?

Tanjiro instinctively took a step back as the green haired male took a step towards them. Just then the only source of light in the room went out, just as it did faster then what I could see the demon charged towards Tanjiro knocking him back. Tanjiro in that instant grabbed his hatchet and slashed the demon across his neck knocking him back, however before he hit the floor he managed to do a backflip midair and land as blood dripped from his neck. He then reached for his neck and began to laugh.

????: Heheheh a hatchet, huh? Not bad. But a scratch like this... should heal in no time.

He said as the wound on his neck then began to heal, a sinister smile then found its way on his face as he grinned at Tanjiro.

????: See that? The bleedings stopped already.

Tanjiro could only gasp in shock at this unnatural phenomenon that he had just witnessed. However...

(Y/N): Then how about this?

I said as I appeared from right behind him while holding my blade up about to preform a vertical strike across his back, however just before I was about to connect he did another backflip and avoided it by landing right behind me he then proceeded to kick my back knocking me towards Tanjiro.

????: Heheheheh I thought I smelled a third one... Hmph not bad, but you're going to have to do better then that?!

He said as Tanjiro and I then got back up prepared to fight this thing to the end, but as we gripped our weapons he then vanished from sight?!

(Y/N): Where?!

I said looking to the left, then the right, then down, and then up, just as I did I noticed him. I was about to call out to Tanjiro, but it was too late this demon was fast and unbelievably strong seeing as when he reappeared he grabbed both of us by the neck and pinned us down to the floor. He grabbed Tanjiro with his left hand and he grabbed me with his right hand.

????: You won't get me twice! All right I'm gonna snap both of your necks!!

He said as he glared down at us, the veins on his forehead popping out. Thinking quickly I flipped my blade it my hand and used the last bit of strength I had to stab him through his chest causing some blood to splatter on us. He then began to squeeze out necks harder.

????: Ehhh? Not bad kid, not bad at all but it's going to take a lot more then that to kill me!!

(Y/N): G-GAAAAAHHH!!

Tanjiro: G-GAAAHHH?!

Just then the sound of footstep could be heard as a foot then connect with the head of the demon effectively kicking off the demons head?!

Tanjiro/(Y/N): EEEEHHHHHH?!

Both of us looked towards the tree the demons head was kicked towards and back to the person who kicked the head which happened to be Nezuko. The demons body that was holding us down then went limp freeing us from its tight grip. Tanjiro then pushed its body off of us and then rushed to his feet while having a look of shock present on his face as he looked his younger sister.

(Y/N): Is it over..?

Tanjiro: N-N-Nezuko?!

I heard Tanjiro say as I looked over at the two of them rushing to my feet as well. I then noticed the body slowly reach towards Tanjiro, not taking any chance using my blade I slashed right through the demons hand effectively cutting it off as Nezuko then kicked the body back knocking it into a tree. Tanjiro could only stare in shock as panic began to spread through his body. To make things worse the disembodied head began to speak.

????: You bastards!!! One of you is a demon after all?! You gave off such a weird vibe! What's two humans and a demon doing teaming up?

(Y/N): Okay... this is definitely the weirdest thing I've seen in my life...

Tanjiro stares in shock as I only gave a look of disgust at the disembodied demon head. Just then loud footsteps could be heard charging towards us as I looked towards the source of the noise, it was the the demons body charging right at us. It jumped in the air performing a couple of flips only to eventually unleash an axe kick toward Nezuko. As he connected with the ground, it caused a bunch of dirt to rise up in the air, however despite the power of his kick, Nezuko managed to dodge it. It then began to rush her again which allowed it to get a good grip on Nezuko wrist.

It grew its hand back?!

I thought shocked as I saw he hand both of his hands now. I was about to charge towards them until I heard Tanjiro begin to sprint towards Nezuko.

Tanjiro: Stop it!!! AHHHHHH!!!

He shouted grabbing his axe off the floor and charging an attack towards the demon, however he was interrupted by the disembodied head.

????: AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!

The head shouted out in rage as it now had to hands growing from his sides, as he was crawling towards Tanjiro. It then proceeded to attempt to bite him, but Tanjiro blocked it with the blade of his axe. The demon just bit down on Tanjiro's axe while also getting a tight grip on Tanjiro shoulders.

(Y/N): Tanjiro!!

I yelled looking at him, but then I heard Nezuko give a yell of distress. I look towards her to see she was knocked down on the floor by the demons body.

Tanjiro/(Y/N): NEZUKO!!!

It then kicked her knocking her back a bit and then kicked her again in the face causing her to yell in pain.

Nezuko: MHNNNNN?!

The body then proceeded to grab her on the shoulder and then proceeded to throw her in the woods. I was about to charge to protect her, but I hesitated since Tanjiro also needed help.

Tanjiro: Nezuko?! (Y/N) go save Nezuko!!

(Y/N): B-but what about you?!

Tanjiro: I'll be alright!! Just save her!!

I nodded as I then focused my vision in the direction of where the demon threw Nezuko. I then charged running through the forest in an attempt to catch up.

(Y/N): Nezuko!!! Where are you?!

I said running around in the forest trying to find her. Fear started to course through my body as I began to slightly panic about what could've happened to her, that was until I eventually found them! The demons body was kicking Nezuko beside a cliffs edge, my visioned darkened as I focused on one thing and one thing alone, the demon. As I sprinted towards them my scarf fluttered in the wind, with my blade in my hand I charged towards the demon.

(Y/N): Nezuko!!!!

Upon arriving I instantly swung my blade cutting off the demons right arm again causing it to jump back as a reaction. I wasn't going to let up, I then charged at it again and began swinging my blade in multiple directions attempting to cut down the demon, however it kept blocking my strikes. The demon the regenerated it arm back and went on the offensive, swing after swing, strike after strike, the demon was now pushing me back until eventually it knocked my sword right out of my hands. My blade soared through the sky spinning until it eventually came down stabbing into the ground a couple feet away from me.

Damnit... this demon is too fast and stronger then me?! What can I do?!

I kept trying to avoid the demons attack as it came towards me, however due to his speed I kept on getting hit. Eventually it grabbed me from my neck and then proceeded to throw me towards a tree causing me to hit my head and knocking out my breath.

(Y/N): K-KAAAAA?!

As I got up, my vision began to blur, all that I could see was the demon charging towards me, perhaps to finish me off. Time seemed to have slowed down as I thought to myself.

Is this it...?

Am I going to die...?

Grandpa...?

I closed my eyes waiting for the end... is this all I had... was the promise I made to protect these two just mere words...?

"(Y/N)!! TRY HARDER!!!!!"

My eyes shot open as I heard those words... I then proceed to raise my arm and bite my wrist using the pain to bring me back to my senses.

"IF YOU DON'T LEARN TO FIGHT HOW DO YOU INTEND TO GET STRONGER?!?!"

The voice boomed in my mind as I began to remember some pleasant mesmerizes. I then forced myself to to stand up straight and face the enemy without fear or doubt.

"KEH KEH KEH GOOD JOB MY BOY, BUT REMEMBER TO BREATH IT MAY JUST SAVE YOU ONE DAY!!! KEH KEH KEH KEH!!!"

I then looked up and glared at the demon as it charged at me. I then did what I recalled from the memories of my Grandpa.

(Y/N): PWWWWHEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

I took a deep breath just the way my grandpa taught me and then charged towards the demon at a much faster speed then I have been going this whole time. I eventually tackled the demon and began to push it back towards the cliffs edge. The demon attempt to resist it, however I wouldn't give up.

(Y/N): I MADE A PROMISE AND I INTEND TO KEEP IT!!! AAAAARRRRHHHHH!!!

Eventually I reached the end of the cliff and dived off of it with the demon still in my grasp. Suddenly moment of realization hit as I realized what I just did.

I just jumped off a cliff?!?!?

I thought to myself as panic began to spread through my body. A shout soon found its way out of my mouth escaping my lips.

(Y/N): WAAAHHHHH?!!

Just then I felt a tight grip on the back of my kimono which stopped my descent to my doom. Meanwhile the body of the demon wasn't so lucky as it fell down the cliffs edge until eventually a loud splat was heard. I looked up to see it was Nezuko that saved my life, she then proceeded to pull me out, to which I just brought her into a hug.

(Y/N): Man... you really saved my life... for a second I thought you really didn't care about me, but I guess I was wrong, thanks Nezuko.

She didn't do much, she didn't even hug back she just gave a muffled noise, however she did have a happy look on her face.

Nezuko: Mhmmm~!

I then separated from her as I remembered that Tanjiro was still in trouble with the demons head. I then quickly grabbed Nezuko hand and began to run back towards the temple. Not forgetting to grab my katana on the way back.

(Y/N): Come on, Nezuko! Tanjiro might still need out help!

Halfway back to the temple I eventually crashed into something running our way. Upon collision I head-butted whatever it was I ran into, which I assumed was a rock because it hurt like hell. We were both knocked down so I couldn't really tell what it was.

(Y/N): D-damnit t-that hurt!!

I said holding my forehead as I slowly got up and looked at what I bumped into. Relief soon replaced the feeling of pain as I looked to see that the thing I ran into was Tanjiro.

(Y/N): Tanjiro... what a relief are you okay?!

Tanjiro: Y-yeah.. just a feeling bit of pain... man (Y/N) your head is as hard as a rock...

Tanjiro stated rubbing his forehead in pain as I only gave him a blank expression. I then pointed towards the growing comedic stereotype looking bump forming on where I got head-butted from.

(Y/N); You're one to talk! It felt like I ran face first into a mountain!

We then both looked at each other and then gave a bright smile followed by a laugh. I then proceed to help him up.

Tanjiro: Thanks, I came to help you guys but it looks like you had everything handled.

(Y/N): Yeah, but I couldn't do it without a bit of help.

I said referring to Nezuko as she came up to the two of us. Tanjiro looked relieved to see the both of us safe from harm.

Tanjiro: Are you okay, Nezuko?

Nezuko didn't really respond she just gave a hum which seemed to have given Tanjiro the answer he was looking for.

Nezuko: Mhmm!

Tanjiro: Thank God.

(Y/N): Alright, I say we should head back to the temple and then decided what to do from their on.

Tanjiro: Right!!

Nezuko: Mhmm!!

Tanjiro then proceeded to grab Nezuko's hand and was about to head off with me following, but before they left Nezuko grabbed my own hand dragging me along with them.

"Doki.... Doki"

I soon felt my face heat up as she did this, I looked away hoping that neither Tanjiro or Nezuko would see my face. Eventually we made it back to the small temple and we all surrounded the disembodied head that was now pinned to a tree thanks to Tanjrio's axe.

(Y/N): So this is how you beat him, huh? Nice, but what are we going to do with him? If we leave him be he may grow back his body and start hurting people again.

Tanjiro then drew a knife, this had shocked me because I didn't know he had the thing to begin with. I gave him a questioning look.

Tanjiro: I found it inside the temple. I wonder if there are many demons out there...? This isn't the scent of the demon that was lingering in my house. That was a different demon.

(Y/N): I see. Even so we have to finish him off you know.

Tanjiro then looked at the head, he began to breath heavily as a look of panic appeared in his face. I put my hand on his shoulder and grabbed the knife.

(Y/N): It's alright, Tanjiro. I'll do it, this isn't the first time I've take a life and by the looks of it this may not be the last either. Just give me the knife.

Tanjiro: (Y/N)... I-I'm sorry.

(Y/N): Don't apologize. You really are strange... this demon tried to kill you and yet you still show mercy, I wish I was like you.

I said as I took the knife for him and was about to walk up to the demon, until a hand was felt on both Tanjiro's and my shoulder. I instantly flipped the knife around defensively as I turned around to see who it was. Tanjiro doing the same turned around and was shocked at what he saw.

Tanjiro: AHHHA?!

It was a man wearing a cloud-patterned jinbei kimono with navy colored pants which are fastened at his shins by white kyahan guards, his most noticeable feature was the mask he was wearing, it was a goblin mask. He looked at the two of us and then spoke, his voice was raspy and deep, he sounded old, despite his physique.

???: You can't finish him off with that.

(Y/N): Who are you?

I asked, but he stayed silent. Tanjiro then turned around and looked at him as well. I couldn't help but feel cautious, because I couldn't feel this guy coming at all.

Tanjiro: H-how can I finish him off?

Tanjiro suddenly asked only for the older man to answer with:

???: Don't ask me! Can't you use your own head to figure it out?

Tanjiro: U-ughh...?

(Y/N): I see... so if stabbing isn't good enough...

Tanjiro: Then well have to crush his head...

(Y/N): Yeah...

Tanjiro then proceeded to pick up a rock and stood in front of the head. He then began to start shaking again as the stranger and I looked at him.

I could feel his conflicting feelings... how kind are you truly... Tanjiro?

???: 'Huaaa... this kid isn't going to cut it he's too kind and can't make decisions. He's facing a demon yet the scent of kindness remains. He has sympathy for even a demon. Giyu... he's never going to make it.'

(Y/N): Tanjiro... it's okay I'll do it.

I said walking up to him as I grabbed the rock from his hands meanwhile the stranger in the mask was now looking at me.

???: 'Hmmm... so this is the other one you told me of, Giyu... a scent of malice... he just might be able make it...'

Just then the head woke up spooking Tanjiro in the process. It then noticed Tanjiro and tried to reach out for him, completely ignoring me in the process.

????: You bastard!! I'll kill you!! I swear I'll devour you!! Get over here!! Damnit!! I can't go to you, so you come to me!!

I then proceeded to raise my leg and then slammed my foot on the demons face effectively shutting him up in the process.

(Y/N): Oi... don't you dare say such words to him. Besides he's the least of your worries right now,. How about you focus on the one whose about to end you.

I said with no emotion at all glaring at the head. It then attempted to remove my foot, however I held on and didn't give it the chance.

????: You damn brat!!! I'll make sure to devour you too!! I'll make you all pay for this!!

Tanjiro: The sun is coming up...

Tanjiro said in a daze as the light eventually hit all of us, it wasn't until it hit the demon that Tanjiro began to panic. I removed my foot when this happened because the demon began to let out a ghastly screech as the light made contact with his skin.

????: GGGGHHHHAAHHHHHH?!??

The head then begin to burn until it faded away into ash... I dropped the rock that I was holding as Tanjiro just looked at where the demon was in shock.

Tanjiro: H-Huah?!

(Y/N): He burned with that much sunlight...?!

Tanjiro: No wonder Nezuko shrinks from it?!

Tanjiro/(Y/N): O-oh....?!

We both then looked side to side...

Tanjiro/(Y/N): Nezuko...?NEZUKO?!

We both then looked around for her and couldn't find her, so we decided to look in the one place she could have shade from the sunlight, the small temple.

(Y/N): Thank God...

Tanjiro: Sigh...

We both felt relived as we saw that she was safe and sound in the basket that Tanjiro and I made for her.

Nezuko: Mhhnnn...

Tanjiro: Nezuko... o-oh that's right where's that man?

(Y/N): And where are the bodies that were in the temple...?

Tanjiro: You're right, they're all gone?

We both then walked to the side of the temple to see that man praying in front of what I assumed were the graves of the deceased.

(Y/N): There he is.

Tanjiro: He buried the people who got killed...

(Y/N): Yeah.. maybe he's not so bad after all.

Tanjiro: We should ask who he is don't you think.

(Y/N): Be my guest.

Tanjiro then took a step forward as I followed right behind him. Tanjiro then asked the man a question:

Tanjiro: Umm...

The man then stopped praying and slowly rose to his feet and then turned around to face both Tanjiro and I.

???: I'm Urokodaki Sakonji. I'm assuming you both are the once's that's Giyu sent my way?

Tanjiro: H-hai! My name is Kamado Tanjiro!

(Y/N): My name is (L/N) (Y/N).

Tanjiro: My sisters name is Nezuko and...-

He was then interrupted by Urokodaki-san. He loooked at the two of us firmly as he said this:

Urokodaki: Tanjiro, (Y/N). What will you do when she devours a human?

Tanjiro: Ehhh...-...

(Y/N): What-....

He interrupted the two of us as he walked towards us faster then I expected him too and then proceed to slap Tanjiro. Before I could even realize it I soon too felt a stinging sensation on my cheek. Both Tanjiro and I could only look at him in shock, however instead of doing something to retaliate I just stood still not knowing what to do.

Urokodaki: You're both too slow! You're too slow at making decisions, Tanjrio!

He then proceed to look at me and then scolded me.

Urokodaki: You're too slow in finishing off the enemy! You failed to finish off that demon before daybreak, instead you taunted him.. Do you know why you both couldn't answer my question right away? It's because both of your resolves are weak! There are two things to do if your sister devours a human. Kill her! And slit your own belly and die. That's what it means to travel with your sister who became a demon!

We both looked at him in shock... as cruel as he may have been in saying it, he was right. If it ever did come to it, that Nezuko would devour a human we would have no other choice, but still..

I don't like it.

Urokodaki: But that must never happen no matter what. And you'd both best not forget. Your sister, taking the life of an innocent person... that's the once thing that must never happen! Ever! Do you understand what I'm saying?

Tanjiro/(Y/N): Hai!

Urokodaki: All right, now I'm going to test the two of you to see if you're fit to become a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. Carry your sister on your back and follow me!

He said that last part mostly to Tanjrio, but I knew he wanted the both of us to follow him. So in a quick haste Tanjiro went to go get Nezuko's basket and we then proceed to follow Urokodaki.

To say he was fast is an understatement, I couldn't even keep up. Both Tanjrio and I were having trouble keeping up with his pace, more Tanjiro then I, but that's besides the point. I couldn't even hear his footsteps as he ran along the trail we were on.

(Y/N): I-is... h-huff he really a-n old man?!

I said trying to keep up with Tanjiro right next to me. At this point we already ran a far distance from the small temple we were at and to be honest I was reaching my limit. My body felt like it wanted to give up and just shut down.. but I could bring myself to listen. I have to keep going no matter what I have to do!

She was always there for me when I need it... now when she's me an I going to give up just because I can't keep up with this old man..?!

Little did I know Tanjiro was having the same
thoughts as me.

Tanjiro/(Y/N): 'I swear that we'll change you back into a human, Nezuko!'

Tanjrio: 'I swear to buy you a beautiful kimono someday!'

(Y/N): 'I'll swear I'll make you never feel sad again!'

Tanjrio/(Y/N): 'Everything that we couldn't do with the others... I'll do it all for you!'

Feeling more determined then ever we both kept at it trying to keep up with Urokodaki-san.

<Current Time: Sunset>

After hours and hour of none stop running we eventually reached the foot of Mt. Sagiri. At the base Urokodaki lead us to what I believed was his home. It was pretty small all things considered, but it seemed to be enough for him. Both Tanjiro and I were exhausted from the run here as we fell to our knees panting for air.

(Y/N): Huff... Huff.... Huff...

Tanjiro: Huff... Huff... N-now... huff.... have we passed the test?

Urokodaki-san then took off his white hood and opened the door to his house and said without even looking at us.

Urokodaki: The test starts now. We're going to climb the mountain.

(Y/N): Y-you mean... huff... huff that wasn't the test?!

Tanjiro: EHHHUHHH??!?!

Tanjiro panicked as Urkodaki said that I merely just fell face first on the floor. He eventually motioned for the two of us to walk into his house, but only Tanjrio walked in, meanwhile I laid on the floor.

Urokodaki: Leave your sister here.

At first Tanjiro looked hesitant but then he complied with what Urkodaki requested. He then proceeded to walk into his house and lay Nezuko on the floor. She laid there motionless in her sleep.

Urokodaki: I'll make sure to take care of your sister for you.

Tanjiro: I'm counting on you, sir.

I then raised my head from the floor and said the same thing in respect that he would watch over Nezuko for us.

(Y/N): Please take good care of her...

I then slammed my face on the floor once again. After that was settled we all then began to walk up the mountain, however not before Urokodaki told me to leave my katana. As we got higher and higher up the mountain I couldn't help but notice it was hard to breath.

The air is way thinner up here then I thought it would be... my body is loosing it feeling...

All of a sudden Urokodaki-san stopped and then turned to face the two of us. He then spoke, telling us what our test was.

Urokodaki: Now, from here, go back down to the house at the foot of the mountain. You must both spilt up and find your way down. This time I'm not going to wait until daybreak.

A mist then started to form around Urokodaki-san and as it began to dissipate he was no longer standing there. It was as if he just upped and vanished.

Tanjiro: E-Ehh? Is that all? I see he thinks we might get lost in this thick fog. We just have to get back by daybreak, right? That's easy! We can use my sense of smell!

(Y/N):  We have to split up remember. Besides I don't think it'll be that easy, Tanjiro.

Tanjiro: You really think so? Well then I guess I'll see you at the bottom of the mountain, (Y/N).

(Y/N): Yeah... just stay safe alright... remember Nezuko is waiting for you to come back. So will I once I make it there.

Tanjiro: Yeah.. stay safe (Y/N).

(Y/N): Right.

I then saw him hold out his fist. It confused me at first, but then I understood what he meant by it. Giving a small smile I returned this small gesture and collided fists with him, as soon as we made contact we both then sprinted in opposite directions down the mountain.

All I have to do is follow the path that we took up here... though that may be more difficult then I thought considering the fact that this fog is so deep..

As I was thinking to myself I didn't notice that I was about to trigger something. I eventually felt a tug at my feet which caused me to lose balance, which resulted in me falling face first into the ground.

(Y/N): O-ouch?!? What the hell was that?

I then instantly looked up as I heard something was falling towards me. I saw that it was a bunch of boulders falling towards me, not giving much time to think I instantly reacted and jumped out of the way avoiding my instant death.

(Y/N): I-is that old man trying to kill us or something?! It doesn't matter I have to hurry for Nezuko's sake!

I then began to go at a full sprint once again in an attempt to reach the bottom, however on my way down I've triggered a great many traps. The traps varied differently from each other, some were pitfalls, some were rock based, some were log based however different they may have been they still served their purpose. I was now trotting down the mountain path beaten quite badly and out of air as a result of the mountains thin air and traps. I eventually fell face first to the ground, in that instant I felt like passing out.

(Y/N): H-h-huff... I-I-I can't do this... I-I can barely move... I-I can't even feel my body...huff...

I could feel my consciousness began to fade... and just as I was about to blackout... I heard it again.

"KEH KEH KEH GOOD JOB MY BOY, BUT REMEMBER TO BREATH IT MAY JUST SAVE YOU ONE DAY!!!! KEH KEH KEH KEH!!!!

Heeding the call of my memory I attempted to breath, but it was no use. It felt as if my lungs were shutting down on themselves due to the lack of air.

(Y/N): I-I can't Grandpa... I-it's too hard... it hurts... everything hurts!

I closed my eyes ready to give up.

I've trained so much... but with everything that's happened in the past two days, I'm just to exhausted. I can't even move a finger at this point.

I might as well just give up...

The world around me turned black as I felt myself about to fall into a deep slumber.

Damnit... sorry... everyone... Giyu.. Urokodaki... Tanjrio... Nezuko...

Was the last thing I thought when my mind began to fade into unconsciousness.

~Flash Back~

It was odd. Today felt so unreal and considering everything that happened the past week I couldn't help but feel this way. There I stood with Nezuko behind her house looking down in shame.

(Y/N): I couldn't do it in the end huh...

Nezuko: But it wasn't your fault, (Y/N)-kun.

(Y/N): O-Oi don't say it like that... it was my fault... it was all my fault...

She then attempted to make me feel better, I felt a bit irritated instead, but there was not really much I could do about it. She then began to pet my head in an attempt to calm me.

Nezuko: There, there I know what it is that you're feeling.

(Y/N): No you don't! How could you?!

I snapped back at that moment.. it shocked her and to be honest I expected her to leave because of my sudden outburst, however she stayed and continued to pet my head.

Nezuko: Mhmn I won't leave you. Especially not like this and besides I do know what you feel. Not because I've been there or experienced it, it's because I know the type of person you are, (Y/N)-kun. You shouldn't feel like this at all especially because it wasn't your fault.

(Y/N): W-well how else am I suppose to feel...

She then proceeded to poke my cheek causing me to look up at her. She then gave a bright smile, one that could rival the sun.

Nezuko: It's okay to feel sad, but it's not okay to blame yourself.

(Y/N): B-but I failed to keep them safe...

I remember this...

This memory is based on a job I had a year or two ago. It was a job that required to protect a merchant, however it didn't turn out well. In the end I failed to protect one of the merchants children that accompanied us. They ended up losing their life because of a mistake I made. I couldn't help but feel guilty.

(Y/N): My Grandpa taught me the way of the sword to protect those who can't protect themselves... but I failed...if I can't protect someone like that then what use is it that I'm a swordsman?!

I shouted unsheathed my blade and stabbing it into the ground as I exhaled in anger and in sadness.

That day I was ready to give up.

Give up on being a swordsman and give up on my dream to travel the world.

But that all changed when Nezuko hugged me from behind and mumbled these words to me.

Nezuko: (Y/N)-kun... you have to build on failure. Use it as a stepping stone to close the door of what happened in the past. You don't try to forget your mistakes, but you shouldn't dwell on them either. Don't let it consume you! The (Y/N)-kun I know would never give up! I believe in you!

(Y/N): Nezuko...

Nezuko: He wouldn't give up! Never in a million years! The (Y/N)-kun I know is alway there for my family, he helps out with the kids and is brave. I always feel safe with him and I know he'll protect me no matter what!

(Y/N): Is that really what you think...?

Nezuko: Mhmm! It's not what I think it's what I know!

Hearing that... it saved me that day. She was right, I couldn't change the past, but the important thing was that I never give up.

(Y/N): Sorry Nezuko... you saw a side of me I didn't know I had, but I'm okay now. I won't give up... I just have to keep looking forward.

She then proceed to let go of of meand then walked in front of me and gave another bright smile.

Nezuko: Good! Never give up (Y/N)-kun!

My eyes instantly shot open as those words repeated over and over in my mind. I then forced my body through the pain and the ache to get back up and with the last bit of strength in my lungs, I took a deep breath.

(Y/N): PPPPPPPPPWWWWWWWEEEEE!!!!

With that deep breath, I then felt strength returning to my body. I then began to dash down the mountain again. The good news is, it was still dark, however the bad new is that there were still plenty of traps waiting for me.

Step after step, jump after jump, dodge after dodge, I kept avoiding traps one after the other. Some managed to hit me and caused me a bit of damage, but I wouldn't give up!

I have to get stronger for her! I have no other choices I promised them all!

I kept on running and running until I couldn't even feel myself anymore. I was just focused on one thing and one thing alone and that was making it to the foot of the mountain.

Then what I considered a miracle happened...

What stood before me was a sight that filled me up with joy, it was Urokodaki's house.

I had finally made it.

The sun was about to raise, but I had made it before then, just as I was about to walk to the door I heard some rustling in the bushes beside me. I looked over to see what it was and found Tanjiro limping towards the house in a similar condition that I was in. Not saying a single word to each other we both walked towards the door and opened it.

(Y/N): H-h-huff....

Tanjiro: Huff... hu-huff....

Both of us were panting for air heavily with blood dripping from multiple wounds we received on the mountain.

Tanjrio/(Y/N): W-w-we... h-have... r-r-returned....

We both then collapsed onto the floor not being able to stand up any longer. Urokodaki-san stood there just looking at us as we rested on the floor exhausted, until he finally said it:

Urokodaki: I accept you both as my students, Kamado Tanjrio and (L/N) (Y/N).
