4.3 | Baseline

Chapter 3

Upon reaching Nutfall, after several days' travel, Gina quickly found a carriage to take her to Salar. It was time for revenge she had decided. The best way to teach them a lesson for abusing her was to start the Althea server again, and let it destroy itself. Gina knew it would destroy the last of the great works so she thought to put in a safe guard should anyone ever figure out how to repair the server.

It took her two days in total to make the plan up. On the third day, she put Baseline online and set her plan in action. Hardly sleeping the third night and ignoring her parents' pleas to stop Writing, she succeeded. Within two weeks of her leaving the whole palace became crippled from the damage caused by the cognition virus. In this same period many people tried to hack Baseline and failed.

It was two weeks, too the day, when she had a visitor show up on her door step. He was an older man, with black hair, and wrinkles galore. He wanted to talk about buying a membership for Baseline. Gina invited him in for coffee, and explained it would cost him dearly for membership.

"I would pay anything to work on a server that is a piece of art."

"I don't give memberships away to people I don't know."

"Nesco is not going to be happy." He replied. Gina realised he knew Nesco, one of the few members on Corday whom seemed to admire her work as brilliant.

"You know Nesco?"

"Of course I do, Nesco is my younger brother. Idiot he maybe, he doesn't like to see talent wasted. Neither do I."

"You're Grenspot?"

"Grenspot...now there is a name I haven't heard in years. May I ask one question?"

"Yes."

"How did you learn about Grenspot?"

"It is hard not to notice your username, especially when it's all over the Althea server. Then there is the fact Nesco told me about Grenspot being his brainy brother."

It all made sense now. She had seen Grenspot all over the Althea server. Nesco was the username of the current Grand Master of Writing. She wanted to know how Grenspot was involved. He was so nice on her forums.

"How would you like to get those who work at the palace back?" He asked.

"I already did."

"You know they still have your antivirus. So they will still succeed, and you would have wasted your skills for nothing." It sounded like he had a plan.

"Darn." Gina sighed. What bugged her was how he knew the server so well. "How do you know the server so well? And, why was Grenspot all over it?"

"I am Grenspot. I was also Grand Master of Writing till a year ago."

"Wait, what? Did they fire you?"

"No, I left. They began treating me like how I suspect they treated you."

"Oh. So how do you plan on getting revenge?"

"Easy, by using the reset function. See the current grand master doesn't know about it. It will remove the last ten years of work, which I have copied and stored somewhere safe."

"So it will repair the cognito virus damage as well." Gina said.

"No, only surface damage. The damage is too deep from what I hear, for a simple reset to fix it. To do this we need Baseline, it can get us access to the server to do this. They will still need to repair the damage by the cognito virus. With the last ten years of work going missing they will really freak out, and come crawling on their knees."

"To whom will they crawl? I don't want to get locked up, no way."

"Me, because it will be my username that will show the reset markings, which they will recognise."

"Deal." His plan seemed like a good deal. All she had to do was hope it worked.
