The Pull
Elizabeth's P.O.V.
A/N: Hey everyone! I hope you like this new chapter that I have released. For those of you who have children, young relatives, or work in a daycare like I do then you might get annoyed by this song. LOL. If any of my readers haven't heard of it, it is so darn cute and I recommend this for children. The kids love it! Now enough talk and onto the chapter. Enjoy!
Elizabeth's P.O.V.
"It's the end doo doo doo doo doo doo. It's the end doo doo doo doo doo doo. It's the end doo doo doo doo doo doo. It's the end!" The children and I sang. Their all time favorite song to sing is Baby Shark. I do get annoyed with the song sometimes but it makes the kids happy. My director, Miss Rae, came into my room. "Yes miss Rae?" I asked her. "You're good to go home honey." She said to me. "Okay ma'am, thank you." I said before she walked out. "Alright boys and girls! I'm going home so Miss Mariah is going to take over from here. Bye everyone." I tell the class. "Bye Miss Lizzy!" My kids said.
I make my way to the lobby and clock out for the day. Once I'm in the car I plug my phone in once again and put on my playlist. I decided to put on my all time favorite song Ghost Love Score by Nightwish. They are one of the greatest symphonic rock bands in the world! I mean who doesn't love Floor Jansen?!
I feel really hungry right now so I decided to go to a small restaurant called Esmeralda's Café. This is one place I would go to pick up dinner after work because I am too tired to cook. Believe me. Children are like little ghosts who suck the life out of you! When I get there I find a spot in the parking lot and see a really nice looking Bentley. I'm pretty sure that whoever owns it has a lot of cash. Once I park I get out of the car and go inside.
I open the door and hear the little bell ring to let the host know that I came in. "Hello ma'am. How many people in your party this evening?" She asks me. "Just me for tonight." I answer her. "Okay just give me a minute to find you an empty table." She told me. "Okay, no problem." I said. When she walked away I start to look around the building out of boredom because I do get bored real quick. All of a sudden I get the feeling that someone is staring at me and I try to look for the source.
My eyes fall on a man who was staring at me with a look of disbelief in his eyes. He was a good looking man. He had black spiky hair, blue maybe hazel eyes with glasses, a beard with little hints of gray, and he's wearing an all black outfit. I felt like time stood still the moment my eyes found his because there's this pulling feeling that is making me feel drawn towards him like a magnet. Not romantically but in a sense that I can't describe yet.
"Hi there." A man said who came through the entrance. "Hi." I said. "What's a fine thing like you doing here?" He asked me. "Um, I'm going to eat." I said to him stating the obvious. "A pretty girl like you shouldn't eat by herself. Come eat with me." He said while winking at me. "No thank you. I'm going to eat by myself." I told him. I tried to slowly walk away from him because he made me feel uncomfortable and weirded me out. Before I could take a few steps he grabbed my arm. "Hey now. Come on it'll be fun." He said with a firm tone. I tried to pull my arm from him but he was starting to hold my arm a little tighter. "I don't know you sir. Let my arm go." I said. He wouldn't let me go and he was starting to scare me. What if he ends up trying to kidnap me or something. Nowadays you never know.
"Hey!" A man yelled from the right of me. When I looked I realized that it was the guy I saw earlier coming over to us.
"I'm pretty sure she told you to leave her alone. So let her go." He told the creepy guy. "She was just playing hard to get bro." The creeper said to him. "I don't think so and I'm not your bro. Let her go and leave or I'll make you leave." The spiky haired man said. "I'd like to see you try tough man." Creeper guy said to spiky haired man. "What is going on here?" Asked the hostess from earlier. Out of nowhere, spike man punched the guy right in the nose and fell to the floor. His nose began to bleed immediately. I went over to stand close to the spike man who punched creepy guy. "I told you to leave. Now go!" He yelled at him. "Fuck you!" He yelled and left the restaurant. "Why did you do that?!"The hostess asked in disbelief. "That guy was harassing this young woman and I had to get him away from her somehow. So I punched him since he wouldn't leave." Zak explained. "It's true ma'am. He was trying to get me to eat with him and I said no. Then he tried to pull me with him and say weird things that made me uncomfortable." I told the hostess. "Do I need to call the police? I'm the manager so I can call and you can make a report if you want?" She asked us. "No, I think he might be gone by now. Can I stay here for a little bit just in case he's still around?" I asked her. "Of course. Did you want to go ahead and eat as well? We can find you a table." She offered.
"Actually ma'am she can sit with me if she wants to. At least until she feels safe. Only if you want to. I don't want you to be uncomfortable." He said to the hostess and I. "Um, yeah. I guess that will be fine. I'd rather sit with you than by myself." I said to him. So I followed him to the table and have a seat with this man. This is probably a crazy stupid idea to sit with someone I don't know. He did help me out of a sticky situation so the least I could do is thank him too.
"Oh, sorry about my manners. My name is Zak. Zak Bagans." He said while holding out his hand for me to shake. I grab his hand and shake it in return. "I'm Elizabeth Harlowe. It's nice to meet you sir." I say to him. "Well since we are going to share this table how about we get to know one another?" He asked me. "Sure, sounds good. How old are you?" I ask. "I'm 40 years old. How old are you?" "I'm 19 years old." I said to him. "19? I bet you like to party." He said. "Oh no. I don't really party. The last time I went to a party there were cops shutting it down because the kid hosting it was a deputy's son." "Damn that sucks." Zak said with a chuckle in his voice. "Oh yeah. He got caught because he drunk called his mom during the party. That guy was in so much shit." I told him laughing a bit. "When did the party happen? I mean how old were you then?" He asked. "I was 16 in my junior year of high school." "Oh cool. So what do you do for a living?" Zak asked me. "I work in a daycare close by. I take care of a lot of children." I said with a smile on my face. "I bet you have a lot of fun with the kids?" He asked with a smirk on his face.
"Oh, of course I do! I love being around kids. You put a baby in front of me and I will die of cuteness." I tell him. "Do you have kids of your own?" I ask him. "No I don't have kids. It's a subject that I don't like to talk about." He told me. "Did I upset you? If I did I'm really sorry." I said to him. "No! You didn't do anything wrong. It's alright." He reassured me. Zak looked down at the table and began to mess with the menu in front of him. I could see a hint of sadness in his eyes. Something must have happened in his life that made him go silent like that.
A/N: I didn't include their dinner order or anything because I really wanted to publish this chapter. I know you guys waited a while for it.
"Here's your check guys. Will you be needing anything else for tonight?" The waiter asked us. "No thank you. Here is my card." Zak said. "No sir I can pay for it. It's the least I can do for giving me a seat and helping me out." I tell him. "No I want to pay for it. Don't worry about it". He said to me. "Alright then sir." I said. The waiter walks away to go ring up the order. So we just sit here patiently. "You don't have to call me sir. It makes me feel old. Just call me Zak." Zak said to me. I laughed a little. "You are not old Zak." I said to him. Just then the waiter came back with the card and receipt.
"Here you go. Have a good night." The waiter said to us. "Thank you." Zak and I said. We made our way out of the café and turn towards each other. "Well Miss Harlowe, it was a pleasure to meet you." Zak said. "Likewise Zak. If we meet again, you can just call me Elizabeth or Eliza." I tell him. "Sounds good to me." He tells me. "Oh yeah! I almost forgot. What do you for a living Zak?" I ask him. He never answered me about his job. "I'm a paranormal investigator. I actually own a haunted museum here in Vegas."
I was in shock but in a good way. I've always believed that ghost are real. When I was a kid I had experiences of my own. "That's amazing Zak! I better go visit the museum whenever I'm free from work." I said to him. "You should come. Whenever you can just tell the security guard or a staff member that I sent you and I'll give you a tour free of charge." He explained. "Oh Zak you're being too nice. I mean I can pay like everyone else." I said to him. "No no. Take it as a thank you for dining with me." He said to me. "Oh here, before I forget." Zak said while he took out the receipt from our dinner and a pen from his pocket. He started to write something on it and I was a little curious to know what it was. When he was done, he gave me the paper and I looked at it. It was his phone number. At the bottom of it was a little note. "If you ever need a friend or an ear to listen, I'm only a phone call away." - Zak B.
I looked up to Zak in surprise. I didn't think he would give me his number. Let alone be friends with me. "Thank you Zak. I really appreciate it." I said to him. "You're welcome honey. Never hesitate to call or stop by the museum for anything." He said. "I won't. Well I better get home. I have to be at work early in the morning." I told him. "Alright then. I'll see you soon." He said before giving me a hug. I hug him back and we let go of each other to go our separate ways. "Goodbye Elizabeth." Zak said. "Goodbye Zak." I said to him. We walk away from each other to go to our cars. As soon as I'm in the car all I could think about is Zak. Since he is a paranormal investigator maybe he can help me find some answers about my ghostly experiences and my nightmares. When it is all said and done I'll be able to start doing what I've always wanted to do all my life. I can begin to find answers about my mom.
Zak's P.O.V
When I got home from the restaurant I went to my bedroom to change. I got done changing into some pajamas and laid down in bed with Gracie. All the while, I couldn't stop thinking about Elizabeth. There's something about her that is very mysterious. When our eyes met, I felt this magnetic pull or connection with her. Not in a romantic way what so ever because she is very young. She really looked like the woman from my past. I do hope to meet her again soon. She seems like a pretty good kid. I sit up in my bed and reach over my nightstand to pull out an old picture of the girl I loved. I couldn't help but smile yet I want to cry also because of what could of been. A normal life with her and kids of our own. Before I decide to go to bed I look at the back of the photo to read the little message she wrote when she gave this to me.
"If you ever need a friend or someone to listen to you, I will always be there". - Anne.
