Chapter one: Exploring

"Hi Calidera!" Sakura exclaimed loudly, as she bound down the path. Calidera, who was coming up thr path towards her, smiled, bending slightly to rub Sakura's ears when they reached each other. "Hello there," Calidera said back with a smile.

Sakura and Calidera had been friends for a while. Sakura is a cat, who talked probably more than most humans do. But Calidera was a demon.

Sakura twirled once, her fluffy grey tail rubbing along Calidera's leg as she started walking beside her. They headed up the path, towards Sakura's small house that was partway in the large oak tree. They had just planned on spending the day together. Nothing really planned, just whatever they wanted.

"Hey so I had some thoughts." Sakura started."

Calidera inaudibly sighed, but not out of annoyance, but only because she knew Sakura always had some thoughts, which would take time to explain. She didn't mind though.

"So, I thought first we could go out and explore, just in the woods and areas we haven't been to much. Then come back and play in the tree house, maybe make some cookies or something, I also bought a deck of cards yesterday but..." she looked down at her paws. "How's that sound?" Sakura finished.

"That sounds good," Calidera replied. She didn't mind doing whatever Sakura wanted.

"Great!" Sakura said with a little squeak of excitement.

"Which way should we go?" Calidera asked, as she stopped walking.

Sakura continued a few steps, before swiveling her head around some, contemplating. "How about...... that way." she said, directing her gaze, then lifting a paw to gesture in a direction that was behind the tree house. It appeared all flatland, with a dense, lush green forest in the far distance.

"That's all just a field, except for the couple trees at the end," Calidera said, kinda underwhelmed.

"Yes, but what's beyond that?" Sakura said with a sparkle in her eye, "that's why we are exploring, aren't we?" She turned back to look at Calidera, excitement clear on her face.

"Alright," Calidera said, a slight smkle forming on her lips, "let's go then."

They started walking in the direction Sakura had specified for about fifteen minutes, talking along the way on what they were going to do once they got to the forest, until they hit the treeline. Looking back they saw the treehouse was just a speck in the distance, like a grain of sand on the kitchen floor, barely visible. It seemed impossible they had come that far.

"We sure are far," Sakura commented, looking back at the treehouse.

"We sure are," Calidera said. Then she stopped for a moment, as something caught her attention. I heard something, like, what was it...water? I listened harder to see where it's coming from.

"We sure are," Calidera agreed. She turned her head to look around, but then stopped, hearing something. She tilted her head slightly. It sounded almost like... water? She tried to listen harder to pinpoint the direction.

"What do you hear?" Sakura asked unexpectedly, startling Calidera right our of her concentration.

"Water, like, rushing water," she responded, shaking her head slightly, "That way," she pointed northwest of the way they had been walking. Thr new direction led straight into the dense trees.

"Lets go," Calidera said, this time being the one who was eager to explore.

"Ok!" Sakura responded quickly, following Calidera's quick pace.

Both quickly walked that way, through the tall trees and over tripping roots and scraggly sticks. After a minute, we walked unexpectedly onto a small hill. I put out an hand to keep Sakura from staggering over. We looked down, and we saw it was not a hill, but a medium sized cliff. Below if flowed a huge, sparkling river! It was flowing quite fast, probably why I heard it.

"Wow," we both breathed in amazement.

"Lets go down," I said to Sakura.

"Yea," she replied, excitement sparkling in her eyes.

I picked her up, and flew w down, landing beside the river.

"Look at how it sparkles when the water moves," I said to Sakura. And it really did, when it rippled, the sunlight reflected off of it in such a way that it sparkled brightly. Almost to brightly.

We began walking along the river, following its flow.

"You hear that?" Sakura asked suddenly stopping.

I listened, as a matter of fact, I did. It sounded like water, again, but much louder, it was a faint roaring and crashing noise.

"Yea," I replied after a moment. Right then, we turned a bend, and right there was a waterfall. The moment we turned the corner, the noise from the waterfall hit us like a wall. It was a sudden explosion of noise that made my ears suddenly ring for a second. It was so much louder than what we heard before, but not to loud that it hurt our ears that much.

I clapped my hands over my ears, jeering the unexpected clap of noise. I pried them of a moment later and took in all of it

"Woah," I said breathlessly. "You never would've expected this before the bend."

"I know," Sakura said back, lifting her paws off her ears, that were still twitching because of the sudden noise. "It's so weird."

We walked over the the edge where the waterfall dropped, but not to close. I could feel the vibrations of the pounding of the water, and sharp drops of water hitting my face and arms.

The waterfall wasn't that tall, maybe about 30 feet. But if was powerful as it fell, and it continued streaming in a river below. I scanned it, and looking to the side, I saw a big part of the river, that was flowing into the ever big one, split a ways up. Intrigued, I said something to Sakura, "Look, do you see that up there, a big stream split off running into the river?" I pointed so she could spot it.

She looked for moment, while I still pointed, until the saw it.

"Why, yes, I do," she replied.

"Well then, lets go down there and explore," I said with a smile.
