Chapter 2: Breakfast
People started running towards the meal room, and I was forced to run too. They all stopped in front of the meal room.
"Hey, what's going on?" I asked a person next to me. "Why did we stop?" She looked at me with a face that plainly said 'Really?' And then it dawned on me.
"We stopped because we have to wait for them to prepare the food. You know what that means, don't you?" I knew just what it meant. It was time for the obligatory before meals songs!
"Yeah... This'll be fuuuuuuuuuun..." I stood there as they councilors started singing their songs. Finally the songs ended after what felt like eternity. We could walk in and get food. This morning they had pancakes, with the choice of either strawberries or syrup. Bacon, that looked older than it should. And eggs. The eggs looked harmless, but previous encounters taught me that they were not to be trusted. We each got plates and got food. I looked for my friends, Blake, Christine, Jess, and Trent. I found them by the table near the front. We sat together as Shelby announced to us that we will go to our classes after breakfast and that seconds will be served as soon as she gets her food.
"So... What classes are you taking?" Christine asked me. "I'm taking art, astronomy, and swimming."
"I'm taking astronomy too! I'm also taking nature and hiking." I turned to Blake, "What about you?"
"I'm doing fishing, astronomy and wildlife recognition." He said.
"And I'm also taking astronomy, why is everyone doing the same class? Anyway, I'm also taking space exploration, and woodworking." Jess burst out. That was weird, everyone taking astronomy. That didn't really bother me though.
"I guess we're all going to be in the same class. This should be fun." Trent said. "I'm taking astronomy, music, and swimming." He turned back to his food. Trent was usually quiet, so this was no surprise. We continued eating until Shelby called everyone up if they wanted seconds. Only Blake went up. He came back, and we continued eating. Everyone was still tired, so no one talked. Finally everyone was finished.
"Alrighty Campers! Time to go to your classes! Go back to your campsites, and get ready, classes start in ten minutes!" Everyone started moving about. Blake grabbed my arm.
"Hey, Jacob, let's stick together." I blushed redder then a red apple blushing, but he was oblivious, as always.
"Yeah, sure!" I yelled almost loud enough for Jesus to hear. Christine giggled, and Jess facepalmed. Blake stared at them, confused.
"What? I don't get it!" Jess rolled her eyes and walked back to camp. Chris looked at me as if to say 'Really him? Whatever your into I guess.' (She's very expressive).
"Come on, let's go back to camp." I said, thoroughly embarrassed. We walked back up to camp to get ready.
The flower started to reopen, for it's next victim. The mound was now larger, and all life, other than the flower, around it was dead. The bud on the side of the plant was bigger, and ready to open. A small bird flew near the flower, almost as big as it was, to inspect it. It stuck it's head into the opening, and it closed, decapitating it. The body fell down on the mound, and the flower discharged it's nutrients into the ground. A weak, pale green arm, rose from the mound, before sinking back in. Not yet... Soon... Just wait...
