Heiji

I stared down at the leather jacket he lent me. A burst of serotonin was felt, forcing me to smile in full of enjoyment, happiness and butterflies. It felt so great knowing that he willed to lend me his jacket.

It was weird to feel this way at first. But I couldn't help it anymore so I jumped in excitement while hugging his jacket. It had been a while since the last time I felt this happy.

I was so deep in my feelings that I didn't notice Taehyung was silently watching me while sitting on the couch. He looked disgusted at how I overreacted towards a jacket.

"Sis, calm down. The jacket won't run away." He said, disgusted. I was startled hearing his voice out of nowhere.

"Pfft— what are you doing in my house?" I asked, feeling embarrassed of how I acted just now. He totally ruined the whole mood.

I saw him rolling his eyes at me. "Oh, since you've got yourself a boyfriend, I can't come to your house anymore? That sucks." He complained while eating the chips I bought yesterday.

A boyfriend?

"Dude, he's not my boyfriend!" I corrected him.

As always, Taehyung was good at reading my reaction, his best friend. He knew exactly that I was lying. He knew that Jimin was more than just a friend to me, although I tried to deny the feelings. He saw how happy I was when Jimin dropped me off.

He sneered, "Then why'd you smile like a fool just now? You looked like a sheep." He criticised.

My eyes grew wide in shock. "You saw that too?" My voice got slightly raised. "Are you stalking me or something?" I crossed her arms. "Next time, I'm gonna change the door password so you have to wait in front of the door when you come over." I threatened him.

"Aw come on, I know you won't do that to your best friend." He said while pouting like a kid. Sometimes I had difficulties to believe that he was a cop.

"Whatever."

Taehyung

I didn't have the urge to tell Heiji that I had to leave her for a few weeks because of my work. Seokjin told me that we had an important work to do and I couldn't be contacting nor meeting anyone in the period to avoid anyone from any danger.

That was the bad side of being a cop. Having to be away from the people you care.

Flashback

"We're going to launch a huge investigation for several weeks. And during that time, none of us are allowed to meet anyone, including our own family." Seokjin stated, speaking as the leader of the plan.

All of the cops, including me were looking at him with full of focus and worries.

"But, why can't we meet our families?" One of the cops asked because of curiosity. And of course, I was curious as well. But I think I knew why.

I looked at him just to hear the exact answer I was thinking of. "Because we're dealing with murderers— the most wanted murderer who has killed a plenty of people tragically. And we're also dealing with the mafia gang. Do you want to risk your family's life just because you fail to hold your miss for them?" He asked. "You have to remember our vows to our country. That we're willing to do anything without any doubts so I hope you can do exactly how you vowed on the first of being a cop." He stated firmly.

"They can easily just kill our beloved ones if they know who we're meeting. They've killed a lot of people in just a short time. It's possible for them to do the same to our family. You got what I mean, right?" He looked at all of us and we nodded.

I cleared my throat to get their attention. "Yes, I agree to what Inspector Kim just said. We can't just put our beloved ones on risk just because we want to be with them all the time. This is the right moment to show our society that we never forget our vows to protect our country." I spoke as the co-leader of the plan.

They sighed but had to agree anyway. "Sure, that's right."

End of Flashback

I didn't have the heart to tell her.

I stopped by her house, planning to tell her the news but when I reached her home, I spotted that she wasn't home so I waited for a couple minutes before seeing her coming home with a guy. Surprisingly, it was the Jimin guy, who she claimed had nothing to do with her. Looked like she lied to me.

Just by seeing how she looked at him once she got off of his bike, I knew she at least has some special feelings for him. I watched them talking for a few minutes before she started walking to the door so I hurriedly sat on the couch and grabbed the nearest snack to me so that I could act casual.

We had some small talk when she came in, we argued jokingly like we always do and now she was sitting on the dining table while staring at her phone quietly. She was probably texting Jimin.

I looked away, not knowing how to start.

"Yah, why are you so quiet all of the sudden? Did something happen in the meeting?" She asked as she usually do. After getting back from a meeting, she would always ask me for any news or anything that happened to me.

She was like my living listener. The best listener I've ever had.

I sighed. "I have something to tell you." I told her.

"What is it?" She said but didn't look at me as she was so focused on her phone.

"It's sort of important though," I scratched the back of my neck while quietly peeking at her. She finally looked away from her phone and got her eyes on me.

I gulped. "Actually, because of work, I have to.." I glanced at her to see her reaction. The innocent look she gave me made it even harder for me to say it. "I have to stay away from you for a while."

I didn't say anything for a few seconds and she didn't say anything either so I decided to continue talking. "I have to. Or else, I'll put you in danger. You know, I'm a cop and my work is dealing with criminals and it's very—"

"It's okay." She cut me off, "I understand." She added while looking at me with her soft look. I was drown in her gaze for a while before she started talking again. "I know how this cops things work. And I truly understand. It's your work. Being a cop isn't only a duty but it's a responsibility. It's what you've been wanting to do, right?" She asked softly.

I knew she'd always understand me.

"Really? You're willing to not seeing me for a few week? Or perhaps, a couple of months?"

She stayed quiet for a while as if she was taken back from my words. But then her smile showed up again. "It's okay though. As long as you're alive and not dead," she giggled softly, "Besides you'll put me in danger if you keep seeing me while working, right? I don't want to die young." She laughed.

But I knew that she only laughed to change the environment— so that none of us will feel sad or bad of the fact that we wouldn't be meeting each other for a while. I probably couldn't even contact her after this.

I watched her who was still laughing even I knew that it was only a fake laugh. I am so grateful to have her as my best friend.

I was worried to leave her alone, knowing that she didn't have many friends who can take care of her. She was the type of a person who didn't take care of her eating schedule. That was why I always bring her breakfast and lunch sometimes. To make sure she eats. Being friends with her is also like taking care of a little sister. Besides a best friend, she was also a sister to me.

But knowing that she's now has gotten herself someone special— that Jimin guy. I wasn't really sure of what kind of relationship they had. Heiji didn't seem like to tell me at all. But I had this one strong feelings that he can take a look of Heiji while I wasn't around. I noticed how often Heiji had been seeing him lately. So I really hope that he can take care of her when I was gone for my duty.

I really hope.

Heiji just washed the leather jacket that Jimin lent her. She didn't want to wash it at first, knowing that his mint scent would be gone. But she think that it would be embarrassing and irresponsible of her if she gives him his jacket back in unwashed condition.

She sighed and slightly smelled the jacket. "The mint scent is fading." She pouted gently before heading towards the balcony to dry off her laundry.

As she walked pass the television, she noticed that her phone that was placed on the table suddenly popped up. She glanced at it and realised that it was a text from Taehyung. She bent over and picked her phone up to read his text.

Kim Taehyung
sent 8:25 a.m.
I'm starting my shift now. See you when I see you. Don't miss me XD

She chuckled softly at his text. "Miss him?" She scoffed while rolling her eyes before her smile slowly fading. "I'll probably gonna miss him so bad." She sighed before throwing her phone onto the small couch.

Several days later, Jimin went to a convenience store that was located a few feet away from his apartment. He had to grab some things.

After grabbing the stuff he needed, he went to the counter and put all of the items he had in his arms. He didn't pay much attention to who the cashier was until the old man decided to approach him first.

"Its been a while since the last time I saw you, young man."

Jimin looked up at him, their eyes met and his eyes were scanning the old man's face to see if he knows him. "Do I know you?" He asked.

The old man chuckled. "No you don't. But you used to come here often a few weeks ago. I recognise people's face quickly."

"Oh." Jimin finally understood. Jimin had never really paid attention on how the old man looked although he went to the store quite often. He looked up at him and finally noticed that he was kinda too old. Probably in his late 60s. "I was away for work." He rarely talked openly to people. But he has respect for the elderly and didn't want to sound rude if he didn't answer him.

The old man felt so happy that Jimin responded to him. Although he didn't know Jimin personally, he knew that Jimin was that type of a person who didn't talk to someone he didn't know. He prefers to always mind his own business even in public.

He smiled at his answer. "I see." He said after putting all his stuff in a medium sized plastic bag. "Here, your total is ₩14,000." He said before handing Jimin a bottle of yogurt drink.

Jimin was confused of why the man suddenly handed him the drink. He wasn't used of the act of kindness from strangers. "I don't think that I took—"

"No. I'm giving it for free. Take it." He gave him with a smile plastered on his face. Slowly, Jimin looked down at the drink before staring at it for a quick 8 seconds. He felt the idea of the man suddenly wanting to give him a free drink was odd.

But he still ended up accepting the drink because he didn't want to disappoint the old man. "Thank you." He thanked him then placed the money on the counter.

"Have a great day." The man said while watching him walking out of the store.

Heiji lead her phone to her right ear after dialling Jimin's number. She was about to ask him when they could meet so she can give him his jacket back, although deep inside she felt like keeping his jacket because the jacket kept on reminding her of him.

But it was the only alternative she could use to meet him without sounding desperate. With a smile, she waited for Jimin to pick up her call. She was so excited to hear his voice.

A few seconds of listening to the beeping sound, he finally answered her call. Her eyes grew wide in excitement. "Jimin!" She said his name excitedly. "Can we meet? At the cafe near the hospital. I want to give—"

"No. I'm working." He rejected without giving her a chance to finish her sentence.

She felt offended by the way he quickly turned her down. But knowing how Jimin's personality was, she tried to take it as something normal.

He always acted cold anyways, this is normal, she thought to herself.

"Okay then. Sorry for bothering you. How about we meet tom—" He ended the call right away.

This time, she felt a little bit offended because he didn't even let her to finish her sentence. "What's wrong with him? He was nice to me that day." She mumbled in frustration.
