Chapter 3: The Consequence

When anger rises, think of the consequences.

Leila Fiorenza's POV

The last thing I expected when I hastily run back to Spain to save my twin sister from the mistake that my ex-lover made when he accidentally forced Laila to come with him back in Spain—thinking that my twin was actually me was to be in his arms again.

Everything changed now. I was back to my old life and about to marry someone else less than thirty-six hours from now. I shouldn't be kissing him back now. It might give him the wrong impression but I couldn't help it. The pleasure to be in his arms again was too much that I couldn't think straight.

I moaned when he drew me even closer to him. I could almost feel the heat coming from his body. I automatically put my hands on his hard well-defined chest to push him but he held me fast. I wanted to rip my mouth from his but my brain wasn't listening to me.

He invaded my mouth as if he owns it, he changed the angle of the kiss so he could get better access to my mouth. He was always like this I hated him that he knew how I like to be kissed. But I hated myself even more because despite everything I enjoying being kissed by him—so much.

Suddenly, he released me. I could still see the fire in the depth of his golden eyes as his breath was as deep a mine. "Aren't you going to tell me something?"

His question caught me off-guard. I automatically took a step backward to put some space between us. But my heart pounded so loudly in my chest. I have a feeling about what he was talking about. "What?"

He smiled grimly in my direction as he placed his large hand on my belly. It felt like his touch burned my stomach on the spot. "The little secret you are hiding to me, querida."

I should have known that he will notice it. Not that I could blame him my pregnancy is already on its sixteenth week. I took a step back again as I formulated a good reply to his question. Should I tell him the truth or deny it? "Uh—"

"Speechless, Leila?"

I glared at him heatedly.  "All right, fine. I'm four months pregnant, Leandro. Happy?"

The naked shock was visible in his expressive eyes. I could tell that he wasn't expecting me to admit the truth. "I thought you said that you are on the pill?"

"Yes, I was." I took away from his intense eyes and I took a deep sighed. "I'm a better-safe-than-sorry kind of girl. When we're together I'm only waiting for my period to arrive so I could visit my doctor again. But my period was irregular that makes it a little hard to keep track of it monthly."

"But—"

I smiled bravely in his direction. I don't want him to feel trap in me because I happened to carry his baby. "You don't have to worry about it, Leandro. I didn't set this up to snag you into marriage. I am aware that family isn't at the top of your bachelor's list. I will raise this baby on my own."

Storms swirled in his eyes, I could see the anger started to get on him but he kept it in check. He took a deep breath as he stared deep into my eyes. "I thought you said you are getting married tomorrow?"

"Yes," I stared back at him unblinking. "I'm getting married to my childhood friend, Rafe."

Leandro's eyes darkened. "Are you aware of the fact that child is mine?"

"Yes."

He moved closer to me, removing the distance that separated us in one stride. "Then, how can you marry someone else when you knew that you are carrying my child?"

"Can't you see it's the perfect solution to the consequence of our affair?" I told thoughtfully, looking away from his golden eyes. "You don't want a family. Rafe needs my help. I want a family for my baby. Happy ending for everyone."

"Let me clarify some things to you, woman." Leandro's voiced was as cold as Antarctica as he gripped my upper arm. "It takes two to create a child so this baby in your womb was half mine. Do you think I will let you marry someone knowing that our child will grow up calling a stranger 'papa'?"

"He will not be a stranger that man will be my husband." I mentally cringed when I saw that his eyes narrowed like a scalpel knife.

"I suggest never refer that man again as your future husband or I promise you that you will regret it, mi amor."

I glared at him as I tried to shake off his dead gripped on my arm. "You should know by now that I don't succumb to threats, Your Highness."

He permitted himself to smile a little. "Don't 'your highness' me, Leila. When we both know that you mean it the other way around. I didn't expect that we will have this kind of sticky situation."

"I couldn't agree more to you." I tried to remove my arm from his strong gripped. Thank goodness, this time he released me. "Now if you don't have anything to say—all things have been said. I'd like to get going my sister and her husband along with his friends was waiting for me in the restaurant in town."

"Who said that we're done here?"

I eyed him exasperatingly. Why can't he see it? We have the perfect solution to our problem if he will just realize it. "What else is there that's need to be said?"

He smiled almost apologetically in my direction. I silently looked at his sinfully handsome face. I'm trying to memories every contour of his face maybe this was the last time I would see him. "It seems that you are not listening to me awhile ago, darling. I said you are finally at home. This is your home with me and our unborn child."

"You are crazy."  I shook my head in resignation. "If we stay together we will just have a miserable life together."

"How did you know?" He started to stalk again in my path when I automatically took several steps backward. I have a feeling that he would take me again in his arms and stopped all the rational thoughts inside my head. "We were so good in bed together, Leila."

"That's so different from raising a family." I contradicted him firmly. "We might be good in bed but we might be miserably raising a child together."

He smiled seductively in my direction. My traitorous heart fluttered at the sight of it. "How did you know that, darling?"

"I just did." I hugged myself to prevent the unstable emotion inside me right at this moment. It has nothing to do with him, I reassured myself silently. It was only my pregnancy hormones. Not him. Not him.

"But you are willing to marry someone else, correct?"

I stared at him lightning fast. "That's different."

He laughed bitterly, but I could see that his eyes were dangerous and deadly. "How's that different, cariño? I'd like to know."

I sighed as a close my eyes from the headache I've experienced right this moment. I looked straight into his eyes. "What we will have is just a platonic relationship."

"How do you know that man will not expect more from your marriage?"

I glared at him fiercely. I don't know why talking to him was so difficult. I know that he doesn't like to have a child yet so why he was acting like he's okay with the fact that we're going to have a baby now. "I know Rafe. He will not do something like that."

He laughed humorlessly, as he tucked his arms on the middle of his chest. "Don't be naïve, Leila. You are a beautiful woman. Do you think he can't keep his hands off his beautiful pregnant wife if that happens?"

"Yes!"

His eyes narrowed in my direction like daggers. "Why are you so sure about it? He is a red-blooded male. He will want to take you to his bed."

"Rafe will not do that." I defended him fiercely. If I thought that he will not look so scary I was mistaken. The way he looked at me this moment was enough for a sane person to shrink with fear to this thunderous look.

"Why do you think highly of him?" He asked me angrily, his face darkened with fury. "Tell me, are you in love with him that's why are willing to marry him even though you are carrying my child? Tell me, I'd like to know."

"I'm not in love with him!" I said so passionately, I could feel that impatience started to gets better in me. "In fact, I don't like him at all. I only tolerate him."

Leandro move closer to me until we stood toe-to-toe to each other. I could see that his cut lips started to form bruised. My fingers itched to touch it to know if he's okay. "So tell me the reason why are so sure that he will not touch you."

I sighed and rolled my eyes. "You don't want to know, trust me."

"Try me."

I looked at him deeply in his fascinating eyes. "I know Rafe will not do such a thing with the simple fact that he was in love with my twin sister, Laila."

The naked shock was visible in his eyes again. Suddenly, I wanted to laugh but I couldn't. When he finally recovered from his shock he cursed long and hard in his native language. "I swear that you and your twin sister have the craziest life. I feel like my head will snap into two this moment."

"I told you, you don't want to know about it." I smiled a little when I felt that the atmosphere around me lessen a little bit.

"She fell in love with the man you are supposed to be marrying while pretending to be you in New York while you want to marry the man who was in love with your twin sister."

"Do also know that he was Laila's, first love?"

"Really?" He looked at me blankly like he was studying me silently. I didn't know what he was thinking at this moment it makes me nervous because of his intense stare at me. I consciously tucked the wayward strand of hair at the back of my ear when I notice that his eyes focused on the engagement ring at sparkles in the sunlight. He snatched hand left hand to examine it.

"What are you doing?" I asked him as I tried to snatch back my hand.

"Yours?"

I continued to struggle to be free from his touch but it was a futile attempt. "Yes, my engagement ring. Now let go of me."

Out of the blue, he removed my engagement ring from my finger. "Hey!" I exclaimed at his brute gesture.

"Lily! Where are you?"He shouted for his housekeeper's name in the huge mansion. "Lily!"

"Yes, Your Excellency?" The slightly out-of-breath housekeeper who was half-walking half-running from the kitchen arrived. "You are calling for me?"

He presented the engagement he forcedly removed in my finger to the dark-haired woman. "Tell the driver to drive you and look for a woman in one of the restaurants in town who bears a striking resemblance to this woman and give her this ring. Tell her that her sister will not be coming back to Sicily and that the wedding is off. Her twin will stay here with me."

"Hey!" I disagreed with him. I could see the shock from the housekeeper's face. "I'm not staying here with you."

Leandro just ignore me and gave the housekeeper my engagement ring. "Go now." Once the housekeeper was out of sight he met my deathly glare that's directed to him. "Smile, querida. You will not marry that man because you are going to marry me instead."

"What?!"
