Chapter 54 - Epilogue

*27 Weeks later

Ethan had just paid for his taxi as he was now currently standing outside the hospital. Ethan had received a life changing phone call that forced Ethan to miss out on his date, because he had someone else he wanted to meet.

Ethan was sitting alone in the waiting room as was going to be an uncle any minute now. Kristen was in labour and Harrison called him first, which was why Ethan was the only one there late at night.

After waiting another hour in the waiting room, Ethan stood up when he saw a tearful Harrison near the doors.

Harrison had a beaming smile on his face as he announced, "My baby girl is here."

Ethan hugged the new father as he whispered congratulations. Ethan felt the life was being squeezed out of him as Harrison couldn't contain all of his excitement about completing his family.

"Come see them!" Harrison wholeheartedly smiled, as he then dragged a willing Ethan towards his family's room.

~~~~~~~~~~
Kristen was holding her baby girl in her arms as she smiled lovingly at her newborn child. Kristen couldn't take her eyes off her because her precious bundle of joy just entered the world.
Ethan was at the door when he looked at the happy family in front of him. Harrison kissed Kristen on the top of her head as he then cooed at the bundled up baby in her arms.
"Meet Ella Anders-Shelton." Kristen smiled.
Ethan moved closer to the bed and saw the most adorable baby girl in his sister's arms. Ella had the most adorable button nose on her tiny little face. She already had several strands of hair that matched Kristen's, as well as the same beautiful blue eyes that Harrison had.
"Hi Ella," Ethan cooed in the sweetest voice he could muster. "Welcome to the world!"
Kristen was gently rocking Ella in her arms as she then looked up at her brother. "You want to hold your niece?"
Ethan repeatedly nodded his head as he then picked Ella up. Ethan's smile was even brighter when he saw Ella's blue eyes look back at him, and so Ethan began to make faces to try and make her laugh.
"Did you say 'Anders-Shelton'?" Ethan asked.
Harrison nodded his head as he shared, "We already hyphened our names so that when Ella comes along, we can put it on her birth certificate."
Kristen placed a hand on her husband's arm as she then checked, "Did you call everyone else to come here?"
Harrison nodded his head as he then told them, "Your parents are stuck in traffic, and my sister needs me to pick her up."
"I really need to take a nap," Kristen told them. "Can you just watch over her Ethan? If not you can just give her to one of the nurses, or put her in the cot."
Ethan nodded his head as he smiled lovingly at Ella. "I'd be happy too babysit whenever I'm around."
~~~~~~~~~~

Ethan was no longer naively happy as his arms quickly became tired from holding Ella for so long. He wanted put Ella down in her cot, but she began to get fussy when she was no longer in his arms.

Despite this Ethan wasn't ready to give his niece to the nurse yet, so he held her gently as he tried to rock her to sleep.

"Even though you keep stirring, you're still one of the cutest things I've seen." Ethan whispered.

Ethan began to slowly pace the room as he thought that the movement might help her sleep. He also began talking to Ella because she was the only other person awake, and so Ethan had a list of advice he wanted to share with her.

"Make sure you listen to every word your parents say." Ethan suggested. "They are super smart, and super wise about everything."

Ethan chuckled to himself as he also shared, "Don't comment on your mom's cooking because she really hates the criticism."

"And if you ever need someone that isn't your parents to talk to, then come to me or your Uncle Tommy."

Thomas soon stood by the door as his first sight landed on seeing Ethan with a baby. He silently took in the sight as he admired how Ethan seemed to be a natural with a child in his arms.

Ethan continued to talk to Ella as he didn't realise Thomas was nearby. "Uncle Tommy might look super duper grumpy, but he is actually one of the most adorable and sweetest guys you'll ever meet."

Ethan whispered as he also added, "And he can beat up your bullies for you. If anyone messes with you, then Uncle Tommy will kick their tiny little butts for you."

Thomas finally made his entrance as he chuckled in front of Ethan. "Will I now?"

Ethan smiled once he looked up at his boyfriend, and he nodded his head as he continued to talk sweetly to Ella. "Yes he will. Uncle Tommy is a sucker for anything cute and adorable."

"And that's why I love your Uncle Ethan, tiny baby."

Thomas placed the bouquet of flowers and balloons for Kristen near the table, as he then moved forward to look at the adorable baby in his boyfriend's arms.

"This is Ella." Ethan whispered to Thomas.

Thomas put his arm around Ethan's waist as they awed at Ella together. Ethan placed a quick chaste kiss on Thomas' lips, as he then let Thomas hold her in his arms.

Ethan guided Thomas on how to hold her, as he then watched Thomas look sweetly towards his own niece. "Isn't she just the cutest?"

Ethan shifted his eyes from Ella to Thomas, as he then began to feel overwhelmed with this familial felling. The sight in front of him was picture perfect, and this made Ethan think about how he wanted to have his own family like this some day.

"You ever want kids?" Ethan absentmindedly wondered.

"Like my own?" Thomas asked for clarification.

Ethan wanted to see how Thomas felt about the whole nuclear family idea. "Yeah... Like one of those things you're holding right now."

Thomas laughed as he then hugged Ella close. "Of course. I would love to have the whole marriage thing and kids some day."

Thomas then slowly looked back at Ethan as he then wondered, "Would you want that? Not like right now, or even with me... but in the future?"

Ethan nodded his head as he cooed at Ella. "I do too."

Thomas smiled softly at Ethan as he then affectionately kissed him. He had a private smile on his face as his heart fluttered whilst he looked back into Ethan's warm green eyes.

"That's good to know." Thomas whispered.

Ethan pulled his phone out because he wanted to capture this moment with the three of them. Happily smiling into the camera, Ethan took the photo as he then saved it as his screensaver.

"I love you." Thomas felt the need to say because it was something he felt about Ethan - every single day.

Ethan put his arm around Thomas' shoulders as he then kissed his cheek. "Love you too."

They both continued to take turns holding Ella in their arms gently, as they played with the baby until she fell asleep. There was no need for constant interaction with each other, because they already found a comfortable bliss with just being besides one another.

~~~~~~~~~~
Ethan and Thomas were sitting together in the waiting room as the rest of Kristen and Harrison's family swarmed in to meet Ella. Their hands were entwined together above the armrest as Ethan leaned his head onto Thomas' shoulder.
Ethan thought about how amazing it felt to have someone to come home to everyday. His mind then wandered to thinking about how great and fulfilling it would feel to eventually add a child into his personal plan.
"Do you really want the whole traditional family thing in the future?" Ethan checked again.
Thomas squeezed his Ethan's hand as he nodded his head. "I know we haven't even been together for a year yet, and this conversation is pretty scary for a relatively new relationship, but I really do want all of the that someday."
Thomas always wanted his own family where the house would constantly be filled with fun, love, and everyday affection. Right now Thomas felt like he only had one piece of the puzzle, because he could feel all of those amazing feelings whenever Ethan was with him.
Eventually having a child someday, and possibly with Ethan, was something that Thomas was looking forward to - and Thomas was glad to know that they were once again at a similar wavelength.
"You want to try making a baby in the hospital closet?" Ethan winked.
Thomas barked out with laughter at seeing how shameless Ethan was. Living together over the last couple of months hadn't changed anything about them, and Thomas liked how Ethan was still the same charismatic, confident, and loving person he fell in love with.
"Do I really need to talk about how it's biologically impossible between us?" Thomas joked. "I still can't believe you're still trying to get me to have sex in public..."
"One day we'll extend past your office..."
Thomas let the laughter settle down between them as he then moved Ethan's face to look at him. He gently brushed Ethan's cheek when he softly whispered, "I really do love you, Ethan."
Ethan's eyes sparkled back at Thomas as he felt the sincere emotions and feelings from Thomas. "I know, and I really love you too."
Sealing their shared love with a passionate kiss, Thomas then helped Ethan stand up on his feet as he then put his arm around his boyfriend's waist.
After a very long night in the hospital, all Ethan and Thomas wanted to do was to go back to Ethan's old house, and hold each other as they fell asleep together.
Just like every other day they spent together, Ethan and Thomas were inseparable from each other. This was because they wanted to spend every tomorrow being besides each other - surrounded by the irreplaceable love and care they had for each other, with the hopes and dreams of a bright future together.
Author's Note: This story is officially completed!
Sorry this ending wasn't super great or jaw dropping, but I wanted to keep it relatively realistic to how this story has been portrayed so far - plus writer's block the last couple of days.
This was by far the story I enjoyed writing and planning the most, and I personally loved every bit of it.
Thank you all so much for reading this story. It has meant so much seeing the constant support from you all, and I appreciate it so much!
