''Oh my god..'' Multiple voices rang out everywhere across the hall." Did she just do that?''

I glanced around, confused as to why everybody seemed petrified. All eyes were on me. All the judgy girls stared at me with widened eyes. What just happened?

''What did you do?" Kassidy exclaimed, horrified.

"You tell me? What did I do?" I asked her, confused.

''You got a problem, girl?" A raspy voice made me jump.

I turned my head to see the leather jacket guy I was staring at 5 seconds ago. He was a little too close to me, the 4 other guys not so far behind him. Everybody in the hall was staring, silently. He was probably one of the most attractive guy I had ever seen and he obviously knew it. I hate guys like that.

''Excuse her. That's my cousin. She's new here. She doesn't know." Kassidy faltered like she was begging for him to have mercy on my life. What kind of craziness is this? I couldn't help but wonder why my cousin was so scared of him? What did I not know? I was clearly out of the loop on this one.

''What's your name?" The guy looked me up and down. The dramatic moment would clearly be less scary if this guy had a unibrow.

''I swear she won't do it again." Kassidy babbled, stepping in front of me.

''I'm not talking to you. What's your name?" The guy cut Kassidy off and his eyes found their way back to me.

''Winter." I said, confused.

''I'm so so sorry. Please forgive her. She's just..." Kassidy explained nervously.

''I said, I'm not talking to you." He hissed, cutting her off once again and brought his attention back to me. She looked down. I couldn't believe the scene I was witnessing. I had never met or seen anyone so rude and with such a superiority complex in my entire life.

''Wow, who do you think you are?" The words came out before I could stop them. His face immediately changed and became colder. The whispers stopped right away as an awkward tension appeared in the air. Everybody seemed to think "Oh no, she didn't."

"Okay, what did I do this time?" I whispered to myself, glancing around confused.

''Excuse me? What did you just say?" He took an intimidant step closer to me.

''Winter, stop.'' Kassidy grabbed my arm, begging me not to repeat what I had said. I had only one answer in mind, "Watch me."

''You heard me." I replied, getting my arm out of her grasp. Next thing I know, I had been pushed to a locker violently. It happened under everyone's eyes and nobody reacted. Not even Kassidy who was just watching the scene, helpless and terrified. My eyes glanced around looking for an adult somewhere. I found what I was looking for. The janitor was witnessing the scene. He looked away, avoiding my eyes. He couldn't be serious?

The leather jacket guy put up a fist. Fear instantly took over me. By reflex, I closed my eyes, anticipating the hit but it never came. His fist crashed loudly against the locker next to the one my back was pressed to. My lips parted in complete shock. I couldn't believe this was actually happening. He slowly tucked a piece of hair behind my ear and got closer to me. I couldn't react as much as I wanted to. My entire body felt like heavy petrified stone.

''I'm going to let this one go because you're new, love. But watch your mouth from now on." He whispered in my ear and then slowly pulled away, sending chills of horror through my entire body. He turned away without even bothering to look at me and the leather jackets guys walked away. The second they disappeared down the hall, I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding. What just happened to me?

I glanced at Kassidy who was biting her lower lip roughly, feeling guilty. She just stood there. When this guy pushed me with all his strenght, she just stood there.

Who the hell was this bastard? Why the hell was everyone so scared of him? But mostly.

What kind of school was this?

''What just happened?" I repeated, trying to make sense of the past event.

''Winter, I'm so sorry." Her voice was nothing more than a distant echoe.

I wasn't listening. I could hear her voice but not the words she said. I was too shocked. I mean, I barely had time to step foot into this new school before I almost got punched in the face. And the crazy part was people acted like it was normal. Even the janitor. Like they were used to it. This was usual for them. A regular day in school. This guy was the school's terror. And he almost punched me because I looked at him.

''Y-You just stood there." I spat still in shock and turned away. Kass tried to grab me by the arm to stop me but I removed it from her grasp, not wanting to deal with her right now.

I had to get out of this school. No, of this country. I had to catch a plane and fly back to Canada, where people weren't psychos. What was I thinking? That living with my aunt and my cousins in Florida until the end of my senior year was going to be a fairytale?

''You don't get it Winter. This is Haze Adams. Please, wait." She begged, desperately trying to explain herself.

''Why the hell should I care what his name is? He just literally attacked me for god's sake!" I walked away, wanting to leave but there was just one slight problem. This school was still a total mystery to me. Where was the exit again? God, way to look credible during a dramatic scene.

''Winter, wait. Please! Let me explain." She stopped me once again. She probably felt so stupid for not warning me about him. I was an only child which caused my cousins and I to be like siblings.

In that moment, I surely wanted to leave but I didn't know where the door was so I thought I'd might as well let her speak.

''Go ahead. I'd like to see what story you'll come up with to explain that." I crossed my arms against my chest.

''Rule number one of this school: Never look Haze Adams in the eyes. They're the bad guys. The kids your parents warned you about. And Haze is the worst of the five."

Nothing she said made sense. They were just a bunch of stupid teenagers. How could they have so much power? They appeared to be 18 years old.

''Why can't people look him in the eyes huh? And don't you think it would have been a good idea to tell me before I almost got hit in the face?" I hissed, angry at her.

''Not looking at Haze is like breathing. It's a habit, I don't have to think twice about it. No one really knows what stuff Haze is into but we know for sure that it's not legal and that it's better not to know. Let's just say no one wants to be his enemy. The last guy who looked at Haze Adams the wrong way ended up in the hospital. Looking him in the eyes is like provoking him. I just assumed you knew, even though, it's only normal that you didn't. I'm so sorry" She apologized sincerely.

''Seriously? What kind of shitty rumors are these? You don't even know what he does but you assume he's dangerous? He's a highschool bad boy, not God." I said, overwhelmed.

"That's where you're wrong. Word on the street is that he's part of a gang but nothing's for sure. The Adams literally own this town. His family is so rich you wouldn't believe it. Since his dad is a big sponsor to the school, don't be surprised that Haze's behavior pratically never gets questionned and that he ditches school a lot without ever getting detentions. Nobody wants to get in trouble with him because we know way too well there would be no justice."

Money... It's all about the money.

''So what are you saying? I'm supposed to keep a low profile and never look at him again?"

''Pretty much, yeah. He'll forget about you eventually."

''Alright." I nodded

''Although, I'm surprised that he hit the locker and not you. Giving someone a second chance is not like him at all. He must have seen something in you."

''Stop. This is ridiculous. I'll go back to being one more face in the crowd and he'll forget I ever talked back to him. I mean, what could go wrong?"

Seriously Winter?

What could go wrong?

Everything.

Everything could go wrong.
