eight
Harry's eyes went to the ring on her hand and the smallest of smiles pulled at his lips, "You're wearing my ring."
Carter wanted to laugh at how randomly and calmly he'd said those four words, "I never should have given it back in the first place."
The green in his eyes lightened and Carter could finally breathe. He wasn't done with her anymore, or at least, he wasn't mad or pushing her away for the moment.
"Stop crying sweetheart, c'mere."
Harry opened his arms and Carter fell into them without hesitation, breathing in his familiar cologne and melting into his embrace; she was home.
Carter mumbled into his skin, "Please don't leave me. I don't want to let you go."
She felt his lips on the top of her head and his arms tighten slightly around her, "I'm here as long as you want me, Carter. As long as you want me."
The door clicked shut behind her as she spoke in a near whisper, "Forever. I want you forever."
"Then forever you will have me."
Silence filled the room for countless minutes, each of them regaining their breath and listening to one another's heartbeat.
After a while Harry asked in a slightly amused tone, "Where did you put his ring?"
Carter laughed and pulled herself back so that she could look at him, "I threw it across the room."
Harry was highly amused by that his eyebrows quirking and his eyes lighting up, "You didn't." It was more of a statement than a question and it made each of them laugh because they each knew that she most certainly did.
"I did."
Harry dropped his arms to hold her hands between them, his eyes calm and full of adoration as he looked down at her, "Did you really mean it when you said that you chose me?"
Carter nodded without hesitation, "I did, but I haven't ended it yet because I can't do it over the phone and I can't be heartless about it, Harry. But I did mean it and I do choose you."
Harry hesitated to ask, "Would it be easier for you if I stayed away until you tell him?"
Carter shook her head quickly, that was the last thing she wanted him to do. "No! No, I need to figure out how to do it without being heartless about it and without it being public, but I don't want to feel like you're leaving again."
Harry smiled softly and nodded briefly, "Okay, whatever you want. Promise not to change your mind and leave me?"
He detached their hands and held up his pinkie, his lips quirking up in a small smile, "Promise?"
Carter nearly beamed as she stuck her pinkie out and looped it through his, "I promise. By the way...happy anniversary, Harry."
Harry's eyebrows knit together in confusion briefly before it dawned on him, "You're right. Happy anniversary, Carter. I'm sorry that I made you cry so much."
Carter laughed and he laughed with her, "No, I needed it and so did you."
Harry took her by surprise, leaning in and pressing his lips to hers sweetly. He gently pushed her hair back from her face and smiled, "I love you."
Carter smiled like she had never left in the first place, "I love you too."
. . .
"Is he picking you up when we land?"
Carter shook her head; Jacob had given her the work excuse before they even boarded the plane. "No, he's working."
Harry smiled because that meant that he could spend more time with her, "Can I take you out for dinner then?"
"Only if I can stay the night?"
Confusion blanketed his features for the briefest of moments and then it dawned on him and his face lit up like the runway lights, "What are you going to tell him?"
Carter shrugged, it didn't matter what she told him, plane's had trouble all the time and he gave her a shit excuse for not picking her up anyway. "Plane's get caught in the layover's all the time. I'll just tell him that the plane had some technical issues so we got stuck in wherever for another day."
Harry's lips met hers, she loved it because she could feel his smile and that was her favourite way to be kissed. Actually, every kiss of his was her favourite because they each came from him.
"Sneaky!"
Carter giggled softly and rolled her eyes, "Shut up or I'll stay with him tonight just to spite you."
Harry gasped and dramatically brought his hand up to his chest, "You wouldn't dare!"
Carter smirked and closed the small distance between them, "Watch me."
The seatbelt light went off and both of them laughed loudly, making the other passengers glare at them because they had been talking and laughing loudly the entire flight.
They couldn't help it though, even the few weeks in Paris together hadn't been enough for them to rekindle and expand their spark like it had never died down in the first place.
By the time that the plane had actually landed and everyone could finally depart the bulk of metal, nearly half of their fellow passengers looked at them like they wanted to murder them.
Carter laughed hysterically and Harry tried to hold back his laugh but failed on account of Carter being so loud. Harry loved her laugh and it was always difficult not to laugh when she was laughing, this time was no exception.
Without warning, his lips caught hers mid-laugh. Carter made a small, surprised noise and leaned into him, a smile forming on her lips.
Harry caught her smile with his own, his hands moving to hold her hips under her shirt and pull her closer. His fingertips were cold against her skin and she giggled lightly under his touch, causing him to pull away and rub his nose against hers.
"I love you."
Carter beamed, "I love you too."
Harry matched her smile, "Let's get our bags and then we can see what food this airport has to offer."
Carter laughed, but she missed his touch only seconds after his hands pulled away. She took his hand in hers almost immediately, warmth spreading up her fingertips and throughout her body. Without him, she was frozen. She was an iceberg and he was a forest fire, blazing up the night sky and forcing everyone and everything to feel his heat.
Harry had taught her how to love again, how ironic that she only truly loved when it came to him. No one else could ever have her love like he did, she didn't have room for anyone else and Jacob proved that.
Carter looked up at him only to find him looking right back at her, his eyes alight and his smile brighter than the florescent lights against the encroaching blackness outside.
"You're not worried that someone you know will see you?"
His tone was careful and held an undertone of amusement and he gave Carter's hand a gentle squeeze.
Carter let her eyes wander around the fairly busy airport, "No. I'm yours and I don't want to hide that."
Harry grinned and placed a swift kiss to her cheek, making her blush even before he spoke, "I don't want to hide you either."
After they grabbed their bags, they ended up walking around for twenty minutes until Harry just decided to pull Carter into a restaurant that he thought looked 'nice.'
It was an Italian place, which made Carter laugh a little too loudly once the waiter had given them their menu's.
Harry couldn't contain his smile as he raised in eyebrow at her, "What's so funny?"
"You dragged me into an Italian place. I was expecting something more American considering our little French vacation."
Harry rolled his eyes playfully, Carter was something else sometimes.
"Sorry I didn't feel like eating a ball of grease tonight."
The comment only made her laugh further and Harry grinned. He'd missed hearing her laugh almost as much as he had missed her in general.
Carter had placed her hand on the table and Harry quickly decided to take it in his, holding her hand across the smooth surface and running his thumb over her skin, "I really missed you."
Carter put down her menu and smiled. He'd said that he missed her every single day that they spent together and he was so sweet with her, even though she knew that he didn't like the fact that she was trying to let Jacob down easy.
She gave his hand a gentle squeeze, "I really missed you too."
. . .
Harry's hands were on her waist, his fingertips pressing into her skin with a bit of pressure and pulling her closer. Her hands were splayed flat against his chest, his heartbeat rapid under her fingertips.
All of the cute and playfulness had left him only to be replaced with overflowing love and passion. They hadn't even made it into the hotel room yet.
Harry was kissing her passionately and sweetly all at once and her head was spinning, her lungs gasping for oxygen even though she never wanted it to stop.
He hadn't involved his tongue yet, but, instead, he bit down gently on her lower lip and tugged on it. Carter couldn't help the moan that followed and Harry chuckled softly.
After kissing for quite a few minutes, Harry finally managed to open the door. They tripped over their bags as they entered and laughed loud enough for the neighbors to be irritated.
Harry's foot kicked the door shut and his lips were on hers in only moments. Carter had one hand in his hair, tugging on his curls, and the other on his arm and keeping her balance.
Harry was good at a lot of things, but kissing was one of Carter's favourites. He always knew just how to kiss here and where to trail kisses down her body. Jacob was terrible at intimate things like that and everything was always sloppy and fast, he hardly tried to please her, it was more like he was always aiming to please himself.
Carter felt him hard against her and smiled because she was the one doing that to him. She lowered her hand only to slip it in between his tight jeans and his boxers.
Harry bit down on her lip and groaned, his hips meeting her hand as she tightened her grip and pumped him slowly.
She didn't get very far before he was removing her hand and carefully leading her to the bed.
Her back hit the mattress gently and Harry was quick to climb on top of her, his hands caressing her hips and drawing circles under her shirt.
Carter loved it when he was like this, passionate and loving, taking his time and enjoying every second of it. She loved it when he was rough and horny too, but nothing compared to how he made her feel when he made love to her.
The Earth moved and when he looked at her, he looked at her like she was the only thing that had ever existed and like she was the only thing that mattered.
Harry kept their slow progression and nearly thirty minutes had passed before they were both fully undressed.
Harry mapped her skin with kisses, biting down every now and then to leave his marks and causing her skin to erupt in goosebumps. His hands caressed her breasts and the curves of her hips and his body pressed against hers in such a perfect manner that she was more than eager to progress things.
Carter bit her lip as she watched him line himself up with her. Harry leaned in to kiss her sweetly, his hips moving forward and causing his tip to rub against her in such a blissful manner and a small whine escaped her lips only to be caught by his.
Harry smiled and pulled back only to slip into her. Carter gasped and threw her head back into the soft pillows, her hands clasped lightly on his arms as he pushed himself in and out of her slowly and deliberately.
She felt each move of his hips and every single part of him, his hands holding her up and leaving almost no space between them. He was being gentle with her and she was loving every single minute of it.
They'd made love plenty of times before, but this time was already the best and she never wanted it to end.
Soft sounds filled the room and Carter could hardly focus on a single thing in the moment. Everything about what they were doing and how he looked, how he felt, sent both her mind and her body into overdrive.
Harry, Harry, Harry, it was always Harry.
Her short nails dug into the skin on his back as she rapidly unraveled beneath him. Harry's fingertips dug into her hips as he followed shortly after, dragging out her high and leaving yet another reminder of what passed between the two for Carter to remember the next day.
Harry brought his lips up to hers and kissed her with everything he had before succumbing to exhaustion, carefully maneuvering himself off of her so that he was lying beside her.
They didn't say much, but there wasn't much to say. Every little touch had said it all.
After they had fully come down from their highs, Carter rolled over and onto her side to look out at the city just beyond the window. She'd found it beautiful before, but that didn't even compare to how beautiful it looked when she was with Harry.
Harry matched her actions, a small smile on his lips as he ghosted his fingers against her back to invisibly write his name on her spine.
Carter smiled and closed her eyes, every little touch from him was wonderful, but he'd never done that before and the action made her heart swell.
She was his.
"Harry?" Her voice was as soft as the light from the moon that seeped through the windows.
Harry kissed her shoulder and she could feel his smile even after he had pulled away, "Hmm?"
"You have me for as long as you want me. As long as you want me."
His arms pulled her closer and he nestled his head in her shoulder, his warm breath fanning over her skin and his soft lips kissing her tenderly, "Forever. I want you forever."
Carter leaned into him, both his and her heartbeat loud in her ears, "Then forever you will have me."
