Chapter 37

Silence fills the room. Nobody knows what to say or do. Adam, the Captain of the Angels, sits beside Julie's body. Jason sighs heavily and takes charge.

"Let's get everyone back to our castle," he says. "The injured need to be cared for and Julie needs to be..." Jason can't bring himself to say 'buried.'

Ty goes to lift Justina from the ground but she shifts away from him. She takes off, leaving the other Ender in the dust.

"Don't worry about it. Sometimes, she just prefers solitude," Khali mumbles to Ty. Her eyes are red from crying and her voice wavers as she speaks.

He nods and looks around to see all the other angels lifting a demon up except for Quintana, who urges Wolfie to come with her. He follows, his head hanging and his tail drooping.

They all arrive back at the angel's castle soon after. They all notice that, at the edge of the forest that surrounds the castle, sits two tombstones. One of them has an empty hole and a coffin in front while the other is full of fresh earth.

The angels and demons approach in silence and Adam gently lays Julie in the wooden box. Her brother and sisters stand over the grave as she's lowered down into the ground. They stand in silence for a bit after they fill the hole with dirt, still trying to wrap their minds around what had just happened. Notch had obviously taken the liberty to carve engravings on the stone, which read completely different things.

"Julie, Herobrine's Demons. Sister and friend. Born a demon, died an angel. She will be missed," was written on Julie's grave.

Herobrine's, however, read, "Herobrine, Dark Lord. No matter what path you took, you will always be my brother. I'll see you again at the gates of heaven."

The angels and demons start walking back to the castle. As they do, rain starts to fall, making the world darker than it already was.

Ty takes another look at the small graveyard and notices that Adam is still sitting there. He flies back to his brother's side and sits down.

"I had hopes for us, you know? I thought we were going to live together forever after this as angels. Never in a million years did I think that she would die," Adam whispers.

"She's in a better place, Adam. She's one of God's angels," Ty replies. "Now come on, let's clean ourselves up."

Ty helps Adam to his feet and together, they head back to the castle.
