Chapter 28

Justina sits in the castle's rafters, watching silently as Khali leads the angel inside. They head towards the dungeon, but Justina doesn't make a move to stop them. Khali beat her to saving the angels, and she doesn't mind at all.

She's a demon. She's been trained to kill angels. But something about this entire ordeal seems wrong to her. She also needs to find one angel in particular to speak with, which is one of the reasons she doesn't have time or desire to stop Khali.

Justina leaves the castle and flies through the air. An arrow whizzes past her head, but she ignores it and keeps skimming her eyes over the rooftops until she sees him.

The demon lands in front of Ty and he jumps.

"Justina, right?" he asks. She nods.

"You're Ty, correct?"

He nods. Neither of them make a move to kill each other, but their hands hover over their weapons just in case.

"I need to warn you about Herobrine," she says. Ty's face falls for a moment before he makes himself expressionless.

"What about him?"

"He has Mitch and Jerome in his dungeon. He's planning on publicly killing them to officially start the war between us. He wants all the angels wiped off the map..." Justina pauses. "Except you. He wants to turn you back to your former self."

Ty narrows his eyes, pulling out an obsidian dagger and twirling it in his hand.

"If you're lying, I'll kill you."

"I swear I'm not. He told us," the Ender begs. Ty lowers his knife, but doesn't put it away.

"I know. That's what scares me."

"Then why did you threaten to kill me?" Justina asks, cocking her head to the side.

"Because I saw an angel flying by and I wanted them to think I was threatening you. Anyway, I refuse to let Herobrine, that douche, turn me back into a demon. I won't let it happen," Ty says. "I won't let my brothers get killed either."

Justina grins slightly, impressed by his senses. If he could spot an angel flying at high speeds when she couldn't even hear them, he was obviously pretty powerful. It would explain why Herobrine would want him on his side.

"That's all I wanted to warn you about. I had better get back before anyone notices I left," the demon sighs.

"Justina, are Mitch and Jerome okay?" Ty asks. She nods, her purple eye flickering.

"Yeah, your sister Quintana is already saving them with help from Khali."

Mitch hears footsteps and stops tying hay in knots for a moment to look up. When he sees Ann on her feet he perks up, dropping the strands of hay and meeting her by the bars of the cell.

"You can walk!" he exclaims. Ann nods, smiling slightly.

"Yeah, but only for short periods of time. I figured I should come downstairs and visit you."

"How's your sister's face? I punched her pretty hard," Mitch asks.

"Libby? She's fine. You don't look too bad yourself," Ann replies.

"Angels heal pretty fast."

She smiles. Mitch grins back and runs his fingers through her hair. He can hear Jerome humming, "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" in a hoarse voice and refrains from kicking him.

The door opens and Mitch fears that it's Herobrine, but relief floods him when he sees Quintana and Khali walk in. Jerome smiles weakly from his spot on the floor.

"You guys need to leave," Quintana says hastily, opening the cell door with Khali's key.

"Glad to see you too," Jerome replies.

"We know what's going on," Mitch says. He helps Jerome to his feet, supporting his brother with all of his strength.

Quintana ushers the boys out of the cell and they start to leave through the back door, helping Mitch support Jerome.

Mitch turns to Ann, who smiles lightly at him.

The angel breaks away from his siblings and grabs Ann, kissing her on the lips. When he pulls away, the demon just stands there in shock, unable to speak. Quintana blinks a few times, blown away, then remembers her mission and yanks Mitch away through the back door. The boy takes his place under Jerome's arm and they leave the castle. Seconds later, Herobrine's yell of frustration rings in their ears. Shattering glass follows seconds after.

"WHERE IS KHALI!? SHE'S SUPPOSED TO BE WATCHING THE DOOR!"

A male voice responds, which could only be Wolfie's.

"I don't know! She probably went to the dungeon to check on our prisoners."

Herobrine's next few words make all the angels blood run cold.

"Bring them upstairs. This war starts now."
