Chapter 25

Jerome and Mitch run to Ann's room. When they get there, she's sitting on the side of the bed, staring at the floor. Her eyes glisten with tears and her wings are surrounding her body. Her arm is healed, thanks to Quintana, but you can still see the red marks from where Herobrine cut her.

"What's wrong?" Mitch asks.

"I can't walk or fly because my wings and stomach still ache too much from Herobrine's wounds," she says. "I heard you talking out in the throne room, and I tried to get away before the demons came to attack you, but I couldn't. It's my fault that the flock is coming."

"It's not your fault," Jerome insists. "Come on, we're going to help you out."

Mitch puts his arm around her and helps her stand. She clenches her teeth and hangs onto him like a lifeline. Jerome goes to her other side and they attempt to walk forwards. It's slow, and every step Ann takes, she scrunches up her face and more tears come.

"This is just embarrassing. I'm weak, so leave me," she says forcefully. She tries to shove the angels away, but they don't let go.

"It's going to take us years to get back to Herobrine like this," Jerome says to Mitch. He nods, thinking for a moment. He flutters his wings, then a lightbulb turns on in his head.

"Come on," Mitch says, picking up Ann bridal-style. She wraps her arms around his neck and the two angels take off into the sky. Jerome pulls his axe out of it's holder on his back, ready to fight.

"Don't drop me," she demands.

"Never in a million years," Mitch replies, smiling.

The next thing he feels is a kiss on the cheek. The shock on his face makes the demon chuckle, and Mitch almost falls out of the sky.

"Why did you do that?" he asks as steadily as he can muster.

"Because I wanted to, asshat. Besides, it was funny," she replies, grinning and resting her head on his chest.

Herobrine's castle appears on the horizon, and part of Mitch wants to turn around and go back home with Ann.

He knows he can't do that, which makes him sad.

The two angels land outside the castle doors. Mitch can't go in and Ann can't go in by herself, leaving the trio at a crossroad.

"Leave me out here. Someone will find me," Ann insists. Mitch shakes his head, not wanting to leave her alone.

"We can find a way of bringing you in. I'm sure we can!"

"I'll be alright, Mitch. You and Jerome have to get to safety. I can get inside." Ann's tone is dead serious, so he gently sets her on her feet against the castle wall. As he does this, snarling is heard from behind a cluster of trees.

"Mitch, let's go," Jerome warns, backing away. The moment they unfold their wings, a massive black wolf appears from between the trees and runs at them.

"Wolfie, no!" Ann yells. He ignores her and attempts to pounce on Mitch, but he dodges and starts glowing intensely. Suddenly, the wolf becomes a guy with a sword in his hand. Mitch blasts him backwards, but the demon gets right back up from the spot where he lands on the grass.

"You two are beyond obnoxious already," he snarls, slightly winded. He points his blade at them, which Mitch and Jerome do right back. They don't fly away, though it would be incredibly easy. It would be cowardly to back down from a fight.

"Tylen, stop," Ann orders. His eyes flicker to her, then back to the angels.

"I've had to deal with you two so much lately, and I'm sick of it. I'm sure Herobrine will be pleased to have some prisoners," Wolfie continues, ignoring his sister.

"Just take Ann inside. She can't walk on her own. While you do that, we'll be going on our way," Jerome growls. He looks to the girl, who's holding her stomach where the worst of the cuts is.

"Nobody's escaping. Not this time," Wolfie growls. As he says this, all the other demons come out of the castle. They look to Mitch and Jerome, then Wolfie, then Ann.

"What's going on?" Khali asks. Her eyes meet Jerome's, and she mouths, "I'm sorry."

"I'm capturing angels. That's what Herobrine told us to do," Wolfie says. "Justina, take Ann to her room."

The girl walks forward and takes Ann's arm. She tries to walk forward, but winces.

"She can't walk thanks to your master. You have to carry her," Mitch snaps, feeling incredibly protective.

"Ty, I can't carry her," Justina mumbles. Wolfie turns to her and sighs.

"Fine. I'll take her to her room. You five take the angels to the dungeon."

Reluctantly, the girls step forward as Wolfie picks up Ann. As Libby tries to restrain Mitch, he spins and punches her in the face. Wolfie puts Ann down and grabs Mitch by the shirt, punching him in the gut as hard as he can. All air leaves his body as he crumples to the ground.

"I'll kill you, you dick!" Jerome yells, throwing punches at Wolfie. He lands one right in the middle of the wolf's face, making the demon howl in pain. Wolfie spins around and knocks Jerome to the ground, the bacca landing next to his brother. He gets up again and goes after Wolfie, but Khali grabs him and holds him back.

Despite Jerome's best struggles to get free, he can't escape from Khali's death grip. Wolfie kicks Mitch, causing a strangled cry to leave Ann's throat. The angel coughs and spits out blood.

"If you touch him again, I'll kill you!" Jerome shouts.

"Jerome, stop," Mitch mumbles, breathing hard.

"Get them to the dungeon before I slaughter one of them!" Wolfie yells. Mitch is dragged to his feet and the angels are led to the dungeon. Wolfie goes to pick Ann up, but she pushes him away. She tries to fly to their room, but she only gets a couple of inches off the ground. Wolfie sighs angrily and picks her up, and his grip is too strong for her to fight him. She looks at Mitch, and their eyes lock.

"I'm so sorry," she whispers, closing her eyes.

That's the last the angel sees of her before he's dragged to the dungeon.
