JUSTICE FOR NEELA HAS FINALLY COME! Oh, that last chapter felt so good to do, all from just that one shining moment! Neela delivered the shot of all shots and struck down Myne! But now, the real mastermind behind everything has been revealed. The pope now holds what might just be the most destructive weapon in all the series. How will everyone stand up to him after a hard fought battle with each other? And when am I gonna have Ayu finally wake from her coma!? That last one, I actually haven't decided on. I'm waiting for the right moment. It'll obviously be before the end of the anime part of this series though. Regardless, let's just get back into the story. Enjoy!

The pope had revealed himself to us as the mastermind behind everything that's been happening. Killing Itsuki and Ren, manipulating events behind the scenes, it was all him. And now, he bared a weapon so powerful that only 2 of the cardinal heroes may not be able to defeat. 

The pope raised the sword up into the air as it began to glow with an intense golden light. He then aimed it down at all of us and unleashed another huge golden beam. Naofmi rushed forward and met the attack head on with his shield. He stood his ground but was pushed far back, his feet sliding into the ground as he was pushed back. But he withstood the attack, saved us all again, and could keep on fighting. 

"I must say, even for a devil, you are pretty tough. But the time of testing has come to an end. I look forward to exacting god's judgement." The pope said as the sword began to glow again, only this time, it was changing shape. It's grip stretched out and the blade on it shortened. I recognized its new shape. It now looked like Motoyasu's spear!

"There's no way.... Is that a..... It's a replica of the 5 heroes weapons!" Melty said as it was honestly hard for anyone to believe such a weapon existed. 

"Wait a second, did he just turn his sword into a spear!?" Motoyasu questioned as the answer was as plain as day to anyone. 

"How could there be a replica of the cardinal weapons? Where'd he get it?" Raphtalia asked.

"A long time ago, someone tried to find a way to duplicate the five weapons of the legendary heroes for personal gain. They wanted to make an ultimate weapon that could change forms between all five, to use the skills of each. But I was taught that it was lost centuries ago." Melty explained. 

"If he uses that weapon isn't that cheating? Myne, tell me, is this all true?" Motoyasu asked her. 

"Wha!? How in the world should I know?" She replied. 

"It's the stuff of legend. Anyone familiar with the history of Melromarc or church history has heard the stories. Finding it should've been big news!" Melty explained. 

"But the church kept it a secret. And if that's the case, then maybe it wasn't lost to begin with. If you had a weapon like that thing, then you wouldn't even need to summon the five heroes." Nofumi said. 

"It's powerful, but it requires a tremendous amount of mana for anyone to use it. Just taking that test swing earlier must've drained dozens of the church's mages of all their energy." Melty said. 

"It is no wonder to anyone that you are first in line to take the throne, princess Melty. You've educated yourself well. The same can be said for your older brother. But too bad the same cannot be said for your sister, who was always far too busy with her conspiracies. The mana required for this legendary weapon will be given willingly by all the believers who have followed god here today! My brethren, the war we wage now is between our lord and the devil of the shield! It is a holy crusade which we fight in the name of the lord of the ages! Offer your prayers, all of you, to the legendary weapon imbued with divine power! And we shall purge this world of the false spear hero, the demon of the axe, and the devil of the shield!" The pope declared as we could see the legion of his followers behind him were channeling their mana energy onto the legendary weapon. 

"I shall not stand for this! You manipulate us for your own selfish goals and when you're finished, you cast us aside like refuse!? The depths of your evil is fathomless! As a cardinal hero, I must punish you for that! Now, prepare yourself, pope! I will defeat you! Today, Itsuki and Ren's lives will be avenged! Lightning Spear!" Motoyasu shouted as he fired a bolt of electricity from the end of his weapon. It flew straight for the pope but it was stopped mere feet before striking the pope. 

"What the? Is that a barrier?" I questioned as I could just see the faint outline of a magic circle in front of the pope. 

"We can't even scratch him through that barrier. We've gotta figure out a way to bring it down." Alex said as we all agreed with him. 

"Alex has a good point. We'll have to cut off the mana supply first." Naofumi suggested as Motoyasu turned to face him. 

"I can't do it alone. Naofumi, it's time you and I joined forces to defeat him. Let's go!" He shouted as he turned his head to face his party members. He gave them all a nod and they did the same to him. 

"As source of thy power, I order thee, decipher the laws of nature and burn our target down! Zweit Fire!" Myne and the other two mages shouted as they each launched a stream of flames that struck the end of Motoyasu's spear. 

"This is the end for you! Burning Flare Lance!" He shouted as he thrusted his spear forward, firing off an intense giant ball of flame at the pope. But, like before, his attack struck the barrier and did absolutely nothing. 

"You're all a disgrace. You refuse to gracefully accept god's merciful judgement and continue your futile resistance. Then again, no mercy shall be granted to a devil!" The pope said as he laughed at us all. 

"Too many people are powering that barrier and weapon. It's pulling all of their mana together, creating a near limitless supply for both of them." I explained as the pope pulled back his spear. 

"Alright then, if you're done, it's my turn to attack!" The pope said as he simply swiped his spear to the left of his. From just doing that, he fired a wave of magic energy that blasted apart the ground in front of us all. 

"What do you think of that? All it takes is a simple slight stroke of the wrist." The pope explained. 

"Using a weapon to do stuff like that is cheating! Fight us fair and square!" Motoyasu demanded but I don't think the pope listened to him. 

"It has so much power. I could even use it to purify a devil. Or a demon." The pope explained as he lifted his spear up a bit, now aiming it across the crater and at the carriage miss Ayuma laid in. 

"No, he's going to attack her next! He's gonna kill her!" I said as I activated my magic to try and stop him. But, I was far too slow. The pope finished charging his next attack and prepared to fire. 

"Hundred Swords! Meteor Shot!" Two unknown people shouted as the pope was suddenly bombarded with dozens of glowing blue swords and a blue shining arrow. The two attacks struck the barrier and shattered it in front of the pope. 

"No, it's not possible!" The pope yelled as we all turned to see who used those attacks. Standing next to the carriage were the last two people we expected to show up and help us. Itsuki and Ren. 

"Looks like we got here at just the right time!" Itsuki said as they both slid down the crater and joined us. 

"You came back from the dead?" Motoyasu questioned as I just wanted to slap him. 

"Don't you go killing us off. Now, Hundred Swords!" Ren said as he thrusted his sword into the earth. From the ground around him came dozens more blue swords that flew for the pope. But a new barrier was formed and it successfully blocked his attack. 

"Dedicate half of our mages to keeping the barrier active to hold off their attacks." The pope asked his servant behind him. 

"Are you sure that's wise? Reducing the number of mages will delay mana supply to the weapon." The servant replied. 

"Our enemies will need a good deal of time as well. Time to recognize their sins and realize they must pray for the mercy of god!" The pope said as Itsuki fired more of his arrows at the pope. But they were all blocked by that damn barrier. 

"Hey, wait. How're you guys even here? I thought you were dead." Motoyasu asked. 

"We very nearly were. But we're fine. Their trap didn't do the job. That's all there is to it." Ren explained. 

"Sp then what happened to you?" Motoyasu asked him. 

"Itsuki and I thought somthing was strange about the church. So we quietly started investigating them. We discovered a secret file that had been hidden within the cathedral archives." Ren explained as Itsuki took over. 

"It described a replica of the cardinal weapons and where it had been hidden. We decided it would be a good idea to check it out for ourselves. Clearly, they didn't like that very much. We never found the replica because the church had lured us to a fake shrine where they tried to assassinate us. But we were saved by a group that said they served under the queen. They called themselves, "Shadows," We owe them our lives." He explained. 

"The Shadows? So they were watching over them too, just like they did with Naofumi and miss Ayuma's parties. 

"I understand now that you were framed, Naofumi." Itsuki said to him as he looked surprised. 

"A while ago, I overthrew an unfair ruler of a land but I received no reward. I was informed that you were the one who claimed it." Itsuki said as Motoyasu tapped Naofumi on the back. 

"Pinned that on you too, huh? You've got bad luck." Motoyasu said to him. 

"Are you kidding me? You just accused him of a similar false charge yourself. You tried to kill him because of it." I thought to myself. 

"The queen and her reinforcements will be here soon." Ren said as we all became surprised. 

"Wait, the queen?" Naofumi questioned as Ren nodded. 

"Are you saying mother's on her way?" Alex asked. 

"Yes, she is. One of the Shadows tipped us off. Every one of you is a traitor to the crown! Surrender now, and i'm sure the queen will have mercy on you!" Itsuki yelled to them. 

"Drop that weapon and give up, at once!" Ren demanded. 

"Do not lose your faith, my followers. This is a battle between god, a demon, and a devil. You knew this would be difficult from the beginning! But do not despair! For, no matter the cost, our victory is inevitable! We won't lose because god has given his blessing to all of us! We've no reason to fear the forces the queen is bringing against us. And it matters not how many false heroes gather. None can defeat us as long as we hold firmly onto this legendary weapon and our faith in god!" The pope declared as his followers cheered with him. 

"Looks like we'll have to teach them all a lesson. With 4 out of the 5 of us able to fight, we just might pull this off." Itsuki said. 

"If they aren't willing to listen to reason, then we'll have to fight." Ren said. 

"As much as I hate it, this is an emergency and we'll need all the help we can get. Even yours." Motoyasu said as he looked to Naofumi and then to me. 

"4 of the heroes, finally together." Ren said as he stepped forward. 

"I never expected to see that happen." Istuki said as he joined him. 

"Just don't get in my way." Motoyasu said as he also joined them. But Naofumi did not and instead gathered the rest of us together to form a plan of his own. 

"Melty, Alex, and you, Neela will provide magic support. Raphtalia, you'll use your mana to make yourself invisible and strike the pope. And Filo, you and I will be a distraction." He said as we all nodded to him in agreement. 

"Naofumi, what're you doing?" Ren asked him. 

"I'm not gonna play along with you idiots." He replied to him. 

"Hey, this isn't the time for the lone wolf act!" Motoyasu said to him. 

"I'm not helping the guy who tried to kill me just for wanting to talk. And i'm not working with any of you after you all helped but Ayuma into a god damn coma." Naofumi said to them as they all turned their heads away in shame. 

"Please, Naofumi.... our backs are against the wall here. Surely you realize how selfish it is for you to fight all by yourself!?" Itsuki asked him. 

"He's right. The only way we win this is together." Ren said. 

"Funny, you all sound like Ayuma during the last wave. She wanted us all to work together too, but you refused to listen. Me and my friends can do fine on our own. We don't need your help." Naofumi said to them as I walked over to him. 

"No, you can't! You don't stand a chance! You'll die, taking the blame for a crime you didn't commit! Is that really what you want!?" Motoyasu asked. 

"You of all people have absolutely no right to say that." I said back to him as he just looked at me, all confused. 

"You're the ones who let the church do what they wanted. It's your fault it came to this. And Myne takes most of the blame because she fell for their schemes and fed into them with hr own conspiracies. But honestly, you're just as guilty, Motoyasu. She played you for a fool." Naofumi explained. 

"What!? No! How dare you accuse me of deceiving sir Motoyasu! I would never do such a thing!" Myne replied as I held my right fist up, making her become a little more afraid of me as she took a step back. 

"Hey, wait a minute, there's nothing wrong with me trusting a member of my party. Youc can't blame me for wanting-" Motoyasu tried to say but he was cut off when Naofumi gave him a heavy glare. 

"Trusting someone doesn't always mean you accept everything they say blindly without thinking things through for yourself. If you'd just used a tiny bit of brain power, none of this ever would've happened. None of you would've let Ayuma be taken away and tortured for a crime she did not commit! Because of all you, one of the 5 cardinal heroes is down and may never wake up!" Naofumi shouted. 

"You.... *sigh* you're right. And we're sorry for just not thinking things through first." Ren said, gratefully apologizing. 

"I must apologize as well. There was no given proof that she did in fact try to murder the king. And hearing about all these conspiracies, it makes it clear that that one was a fake as well. I am sorry." Itsuki said. 

"And i'm sure Motoyasu's sorry for everything he did as well. So let's put all this behind us and get to work." Itsuki said. 

"The two of you are definitely no better than Motoyasu. Don't think that me not singling you out means you're off the hook. In case you forgot, Ren, after you killed that dragon, its rotten carcass poisoned the air and nearly wiped out an entire village." Naofumi explained to him. 

"That was an accident." Ren replied. 

"In video games, when you kill a monster it just disappears, their corpses don't stick around to rot. But this isn't a game, you should've been smart enough to figure that out. And Itsuki, I heard about your little vigilante adventure that left a town in economic ruin. You forced the people into abject poverty." Naofumi explained. 

"But, if I hadn't taught that lord a lesson, those people would've suffered under his rule forever!" Itsuki replied. 

"A hero can't solve every problem with brute force! You could've used your standing to pressure the leadership instead of replacing it with more of the same. You should've taken a second to think about what your actions would mean in the end. All your thoughtless actions are why we're here today. You all paved the way for the church to do whatever they wanted." Naofumi explained to them all. 

"Well, if you're so smart, what have you been doing all this time!?" Itsuki asked.

"Cleaning up all your messes!" I said to them. 

"Master complains about you all often because he always has to clean up after you." Filo said to them. 

"So this is our fault." Ren said. 

"All three of you let your hero's welcome go to your heads. You've just been doing whatever the hell you wanted. And now look where we are! Because of your egos and your fear, you've just embarrassed yourselves. You had Ayuma become enslaved. She lost an eye, fingers, and much more because of all you, when all 5 of us could've been working together to fight the waves, just like she wanted from the beginning! Even before that Glass woman appeared, you three almost lost almost lost to the soul eater because you only thought of yourselves. And, when Ayuma stepped in to battle Glass alone, you all became frightened and jealous of the power she had obtained. So, you all decided to get rid of her, to make her suffer because you thought it was unfair that she had more power than you! So i'll say this..... The pope's got one thing right. And that's that the people are sick of heroes like you." Naofumi explained to them as they just remained silent. 

"Dear me, I can hardly bare to watch this. You're fighting amongst yourselves in the face of death? Nothing could better exemplify the fact that our so called heroes are utterly disgraceful. Purifying you immediately is all too appropriate. Fortunately, your squabble has given us time to generate enough mana." The pope said as he began to charge up his next attack. 

"You're all the same. You three and the pope are no different. You use people and walk all over them for your own benefit. You talk about justice while using your power with no concern for consequences, and you see nothing wrong with that! But, more than anything, you keep trying to take away all the things that me, Naofumi, and the rest of his party hold dear. You people are truly disgusting. You are the real monsters." I said to them as they still stayed silent. They were all too ashamed to mutter even a single word back to us. 

"Fine...." Naofumi said as I looked to him. 

"I'll work with you long enough to take him out and get us out of here alive. But son't get the wrong idea. I haven't forgiven you. I just..... I made a promise to Fitoria that i'd work with you all. But, if you're looking for someone to apologize to...." Naofumi said as he removed miss Ayuma's axe from his back and stuck it into the ground in front of all three of the other heroes. 

"Apologize to Ayuma." He said, pointing to the axe. 

"We will. We promise. 4 of the 5 heroes standing together. It truly is a sight to behold." Itsuki said as Naofumi stepped over to them. They all formed a line across and stood before the pope, ready to do battle with him. Everyone else prepared themselves too, taking out their weapons or activating their magic. I ignited my fists in my black flame, knowing it was the only magic I had that might stand a chance against the pope's mighty weapon. 

"Fighting for the devil of the shield and the demon of the axe? A follish decision befitting of false heroes such as yourselves! The only fate you deserve is to be purged completely! And no trace of any of you shall remain! And now, for group defense magic of the highest level! Cathedral!" The pope called out as a bright orb of light began to rise up from the ground and into the air, it hovered directly above us all and from it, large stone walls began to form and shoot towards the ground. They surrounded the entire crater, separating miss Ayuma from the rest of us as she got stuck outside the walls. Only all of us and the pope remained inside. 

"Welcome to my cathedral sanctuary! Time to make your peace as it will be your final resting place!" The pope declared as he changed the form of his weapon again back to its sword form. 

"Filo, let's go! And grab Motoyasu too!" Naofumi said as he climbed onto her. 

"'Kay!" She yelled as she took off, picking up Motoyasu with her beak and running away with both of them towards the pope. 

"Try as you might but none of you shall prevail!" The pope said as she launched a fireball from his sword. 

"Zweit Aqua Shot!" Melty yelled as she fired a stream of water, countering the pope's attack. 

"Okay, Motoyasu! When we get close, I want you to attack me!" Naofumi ordered as Motoyasu looked at him with confusion. 

"Wait, what!? But why!?" Motoyasu tried to ask as Filo threw him up into the air, about 20 feet from the pope himself. Naofumi jumped off Filo, heading straight for Motoyasu as he thrusted his shield forward at him. 

"Well then, if you say so! But don't blame me for what happens!" Motoyasu shouted as he thrusted his spear back and struck Naofumi's curse shield. Whem Motoyasu fell out of the way, Naofumi's shield burst into a huge wall of flames that he sent directly into the pope's face. But it was all for not as the pope held out his sword and blocked the attack using the weapon and the barrier in front of him. 

"He blocked an attack from Naofumi's curse shield so easily. This isn't good. Naofumi's the strongest of us here, and not even he can harm the pope." I thought to myself as the pope laughed at Naofumi. 

"All curses are meaningless within this cathedral. After all, we are standing on hallowed ground that's been blessed by god himself!" The pope said as he aimed the tip of his sword at Motoyasu and Naofumi. He fired off an intense stream of wind that blew them both back over to the rest of us. 

"Can you hear me out there, bishop? I need the followers to believe harder, to show our enemies the true might of god!" The pope said as we could see the mana pouring in through the walls and the pope absorbing it all. 

"But sir, almost a third of them have given the last of their mana to the cause. If they don't stop now, their lives may be in danger." We heard the bishop explain from outside. 

"Is there a problem with that? Don't forget, this is a battle between god, a demon, and the devil. To perish here is to become a martyr. No disciple of the church could hope for a higher honor!" The pope explained. 

"Yes, your honor! My brethren, the pope requires more prayers!" The bishop yelled as more and more mana began to seep through the walls and into the pope. 

"We are one in body and soul. With the help of their prayers and the strongest attack this sacred weapon can muster, I shall grant you the purification you so desperately deserve. It is the greatest mercy god can ever bestow upon the likes of you." The pope said as his weapon began to glow once again. 

"Hey, can't you or the tiger chick put your powers to good use?" Motoyasu said as me and Naofumi looked to him. 

"What do you mean?" I asked him. 

"I mean, your curse shield there, and her black flame are kind of overpowered." Motoyasu said. 

"He's right. Compared to us, you and your party, as well as Ayuma and her party are way under-leveled, but you're still able to keep up. Don't you think it's because of those powers you have?" Itsuki suggested. 

"My weapon and her magic aren't overpowered. You just don't know how to properly use yours." Naofumi explained to them. 

"Do you have any special skills that might help?" Ren asked. 

"If I did, don't you think i'd be-" Naofumi began to explain as he suddenly stopped and began to breath heavily. He nearly dropped to his knees in pain. 

"What's wrong with him? Why is he suddenly in so much pain?" Itsuki asked as a theory dawned on me. 

"It's because he's been using his curse shield for such a long period of time. It's starting to take its toll, just like Fitoria said it would." I thought as Naofumi slowly rose back up. 

"I don't know if my curse shield can do enough to take him out. But, if I combine it with that black flame of yours, maybe it'll at least do something." Naofumi said to me as I gave him a nod. 

"Agreed. So then, what do we do?" I asked him. 

"We do what we did before. Filo, come here!" Naofumi said as she did. We both climbed onto her and we took off towards the pope. 

"We're going to jump at the same time, then you'll strike my shield with your flame. My shield will counter and spew it's own flames back at you. But you'll fall out of the way before being hit. When you land, I want you to give everything you've got into one attack. We're gonna blow the pope to kingdom come with this." Naofumi said as I nodded to him in agreement. We were coming up on the pope quickly and it seemed he had to stop charging his most powerful attack to deal with us first. He changed his weapon again into the form of the cardinal bow and he took aim with it. 

"Ready!? Jump!?" Naofumi yelled as we both leaped off Filo, heading straight for the pope. My fists were blazing with the hot black flames and I threw a strong punch, striking Naofumi's curse shield directly. I fell below him as his shield did as he said it would. But it absorbed some of my own flames as his shield spewed out black flames as well. He sent a wall of the flames soaring at the pope as I landed and turned to do the same. I put both of my hands together as my hair and my eyes burst into black flames as well. 

"As source of thy power, I order thee! Decipher the laws of nature and burn down all foes with the flame of the black demon! Deathly Hades Geyser!" I roared as I thrusted my hands forward, launching an enormous channel of flames at the pope. Our attacks collided with his barrier and it was beginning to crack under the pressure of our assault. 

"As I stated before, your curses are meaningless within this cathedral. And the same is said for your demonic abilities! Now, fall devil of the shield!" The pope shouted as he fired an arrow from his bow. It broke through Naofumi's flames and struck his chest armor. It didn't pierce him but he was sent flying backwards, stopping his assault. 

"One shot may not have been enough but you're wide open now. You shall now be purified by god's almighty judgement!" The pope said as he fired another arrow at Naofumi. I could see he was in pain from that last attack and he was struggling to get back up. He was on his hands and knees with his back turned as he tried so hard to get back up. 

"Naofumi, run!" I yelled as I stopped my attack and rushed for him. 

"The devil and his followers are no match for the might of our lord and savior, god!" The pope roared as I shoved Naofumi out of the way. The arrow pierced my right leg and pinned me to the ground. I screamed in agonizing pain as the light from the arrow was beginning to burn. 

"Neela, no! Why'd you do that!?" Naofumi asked as he got up. 

"Because..... you're our best hope.... at stopping this guy. Just..... don't let this.... go to waste. I give you.... what mana I have left...." I said as I generated a ball of mana in my left hand and made it float over to him. It was black in colour as it carried my demonic flame inside. He absorbed it into his shield and the gem in the centre of it turned black. 

"Thank you, Neela. Now, I ca-" Naofumi tried to say as the pope fired another arrow, striking Naofumi in the chest again and sending him flying even further back to everyone else. Now, it was just me before the pope. 

"Only a follower of the devil would risk their life for something so foolish. I shall purge you, young demi-human and free your soul." The pope said as he changed his weapon into a spear and charged up another attack, the spear glowing with an intense golden light. But, as he began, the whole area became darker. We could all still see, but, something just felt off. 

"What is the meaning of this? Why has the light inside my cathedral dimmed? Which of you heroes is responsible for this?" The pope asked them as I looked to see which of them was causing it. But they all looked confused. And I know no one else in their parties could do this, so no one else could figure it out either. 

"Well, it matters not! A little darker setting is nothing compared to the light our lord possesses. Now..... Witness divine judgement as you pass into the great beyond!" The pope roared as he fired an enormous golden beam at me. 

This was it. I was going to be eradicated by this attack. Everything we threw at him, Naofumi's curse shield, even my demonic flame was not enough to stop the pope. All I could do was hope that giving Naofumi the rest of my mana ensured them their victory in the rest of this battle. I closed my eyes in anticipation as I was about to be struck.

A few seconds passed by but I felt nothing. Only the arrow piercing my leg and pinning me to the ground. I heard something smash apart like stone and then hit with the sound of an explosion. I opened my eyes and saw a massive pillar of black light in front of me, blocking the pope's attack completely. 

The pope stopped his relentless assault as he knew his attack could not break through this black light. When he did, the black light before me began to vanish and a figure appeared. It had the body of a naked woman, all black scales covering all section of their body, including the head. Two dark curved horns protruded from their forehead. Two large black angel-like wings sprouted out from their back as the person turned their head to face me. Their hair was dyed pitch black, but I knew, just from one distinct feature, who this was. Their left eye was missing and a dark aura was seeping out of it. 

"Miss.... Ayuma....?" I questioned as she held out her left hand over my head, not looking down to me. I could see both of her hands were missing the same fingers she lost as well. This was in fact her. I turned around and I saw her axe in the ground trying to break out. It did and flew over to her. She caught it in her head and the instant it touched her, it morphed into her demon axe. She then turned to face the pope as she held her axe straight up into the air. She shot a beam from her axe up to the top of the cathedral and it blasted the roof to pieces. And what we saw.... it was..... incredible. 

"But.... how? It's not possible..... She's caused an eclipse!" I thought as that was the reason everything had gone dark. Miss Ayuma then brought her axe back down and turned to face the pope. She lifted her weapon and pointed it at him. 

"The might of your god is no match for me! You will die for causing so much pain and so much agony to the ones I hold dear to me, pope! I'll make you rot in the place you so rightfully deserve to be! HELL!" She roared with a deep demonic sounding voice as she spread her wings out and lifted herself into the air.
