Chapter 34

Ebony's POV:

Rain patterned outside, soaking the grass quickly. Gray clouds zoomed across the gloomy sky and lightning flickered in the distance, bringing a low rumbling sound as thunder echoed in the sky. I sighed, noticing that Feather was already fast asleep against my flank. He always was a tired little thing.

Rexy chewed slowly on the piece of meat. Her babies were fast asleep. Rexy had her tail curled around them, and she lifted her big head to the sky.

I glanced at her scars, which trailed down her neck. I blinked. "Um, may I ask...." I began. "How did you get those scars?" I asked, my claws clicking on the rocky floor.

"The.. Indominus Rex, the hybrid before you," Rexy answered. "I fought her, and her claws ripped through my skin, giving me these terrible scars."

My lips curled into a smile. "But it makes you look pretty bad-ass," I complemented warmly, blinking at her.

Rexy turned her big head towards me. "You think so?" She asked. As I nodded, her eyes brightened. "Your scars make you look pretty terrifying too."

I glanced away, remembering how I got all my scars. I remembered when I was training with Fear, and he clawed my leg so hard it left a scar. He was so ashamed that he'd hurt me and refused to train after that. My eyes stung as I remembered him. His life was cut so short.

"What's wrong? You look sad," Rexy pointed out. "Did I say something?"

"No, it's nothing. I was just remembering something," I sighed, laying my head down. "I'm tired now. I could fall asleep instantly to the sound of this rain," I murmured, closing my eyes.

"You get rest, I'll take guard," Rexy growled.

"Shouldn't you sleep too?" I asked, opening one eye.

"You get rest. I don't need rest," Rexy stated. "Besides, someone's got to guard, right?" She stared into the rain, looking into the distance.

I closed my eyes, resting my muscles. Darkness swallowed my vision, and it felt as though I was being pulled by a current in a river. I ignored the feeling.

I woke up, a familiar smell sweeping over me. I opened my eyes, looking around. I was in a house, and it felt familiar. The door burst open and a girl came in, she was crying. It's her! I ran up to her, my heart pounding. But I passed right through her. I gasped. "Hey! I'm right here!" I yelped.

The girl continued crying. She held a picture in her arms. It was a picture of me as a young creature. The picture's corner was damp from her tears. "I promise I'll find you," he whimpered, her voice cracking. She was beginning to get up.

"No, wait, I'm right here!" I cried out loudly, but my voice didn't seem to reach her. I passed right through her as she walked to the door. "I'm right here, please see me!" I whimpered.

The girl turned the knob, sniffing. She paused in the living room, grabbing the remote and turning on the TV.

I paused beside her, looking into her stinging eyes. "Why can't you see me?" I asked. I then turned around, looking at the TV. I saw Dr. Wu on there, and he was standing next to a glass cage. I curled my lips, growling. What was he doing here? There was a green creature standing in the cage. It was green and had plates down its back. It had long arms and each finger possessed an extremely sharp and long claw.

I blinked, staring at the creature. It looked young, but dangerous. There were tiny stubs poking from its head, which looked as though they'd grow into sharp horns. Its tail was that of a stegosaurus, where four stubs sprouted at the tip. If this thing grew, it would be dangerous.

The girl gritted her teeth, sighing. "You idiot, what are you doing," she murmured. She turned off the TV. The girl grabbed her purse and headed out the front door.

I was left along in the house, standing still as the familiar scents of this house drifted over me. I whimpered slightly,  the tug of wanting to be home growing even stronger. I smiled slightly, and was comforted with the thought of at least knowing my owner was safe.

Suddenly my vision began to fade, and my eyes blinked away the shadows as sunlight crept through, peering into the den. I blinked my eyes open, looking around. Feather smiled as he saw me. "Good, you're awake!" He clicked.
