Chapter 26
Sorry bout no updates, I've been busy at high school, aka hell. At least the first three days weren't so bad. Anyways, does anyone take an art class in high school?
--Ebony's POV--
I couldn't sleep. A week had passed since escaping from the den. I was anxious if we'd ever run into Killer or Cilo. Feather was too. Anyways, I had a quest to complete. It was to find that girl. I knew I would be safe there. I wasn't sure what had happened to the girl, after all, at least years had passed since I was last with her. I couldn't even remember what she smelled like, and I didn't even know her name. But... I wondered... does she still remember me?
"Ebony," Feather murmured. "Do you know where we are going?" He asked, his head hanging low in exhaustion.
"I.. I'm pretty sure I do," I sighed. No, that was a lie. I didn't know where I was going. All I knew, was that I would travel the whole world to find that girl. I wanted to get back to her, to feel her protection, to feel safe, to be.... My thoughts suddenly trailed off. What could I even think anymore?
Feather lashed his tail and cursed as he ran into a tree. He apparently wasn't paying any attention. "Ugh, when will we get out of this forest?!" He growled, annoyed.
The forest was dense with tall grass and a few vines here and there. Leaves and branches covered the sky and blocked the sun's light. The forest wasn't very friendly. "Remember, Feather, that we have to stay in the forest to avoid going to the road. We don't want to be seen by anyone."
"Yeah, yeah, I know," Feather sighed. He fluffed his feathers on his back. "But do you even know when we'll get out of this forest? It's becoming so dense that you'd need to be paper to walk through here!" He exaggerated, lashing his tail in frustration.
"It's not that dense!" I hissed, shuffling in the unsettling undergrowth. "We'll make it through if you quit whining," I reasoned.
Feather raised his head. "We'll never make it!" He yowled, his voice echoing around the trees and bouncing back like a ball.
I slapped my tail across his mouth, digging my claws into the earth. "Shut up! The humans might hear us!" I growled.
"I don't think the can hear us," Feather growled, his voice muffled. "Their hearing isn't as good as-"
Suddenly, there was a noise in the grass nearby. I shot up a tree, my claws drawing gashes in the tall plant's flesh. I hid in the branch that looked the most stable and pressed my body against it, hoping the leaves would block me from being seen. I clung closer to the branch, hugging it. I saw Feather up in a higher branch from the tree across me. Looking down, I spotted two humans with flashlights.
One of the humans grabbed their radio and put it up to his lips. "Someone reported hearing dinosaur noises that didn't sound so.... dinosaur. If that even makes sense," he mumbled.
The other human, wearing something shiny pinned to his blue outfit, was looking around. "They must've ran away at our approach. But it doesn't matter."
"Dinosaurs aren't even a concern, not anymore," The first human pointed out. "Let's go." He signaled to his partner and they both went away through the trees.
I waited until their noisy footsteps faded so I could jump down. I slid down the tree clumsily and landed with ease. I watched as Feather easily glided down, his feet hitting the earth quietly and gently.
"I sometimes wonder who made you," I mumbled, reaching out with a fourpaw and touching his cheek with two claws. "Wu could have never made a beautiful creature like this," I teased.
"Whatever. I don't care who my maker is," Feather sighed. Guilty, he shook his head. "I'm sorry I almost got us killed."
"Don't be. It's not your fault. Well... maybe it is, but you get my meaning," I sighed, continuing to walk farther. "Come on, we should quicken our pace a bit before we take a nap."
Feather ran to catch up, his tail streaming out behind him. "Wait up!" He called.
Sorry this was so short. I just wanted to get something out for yall to read.
