[BB] 2199.
No one was proud of what they were doing.
No one wanted it to come down to it. But it was the only choice they had left after the first test failed. It was only a matter of time before they turned on her. It couldn't be helped.
Emori was passed out, laying on the medical bed. Murphy was chained to the ladder of the rocket, screaming in anger at the choice that everyone else had made. While Abby was standing by a small machine near the middle of the lab, she turned her head to the closed doors, hearing Murphy, then watched as Clarke walked over to the others slowly. Abby took out the vials of Nightblood. Miller and Roan paced nervously while Jackson watched Clarke. Raven was by the stairs, far away from the others. Luna was also on one of the medical beds asleep after Roan had knocked her out. Jackson walked over to Emori to prep her for the injection, tying a small rubber band around her upper arm, wiping the skin near the crook of her elbow. Abby was placing the Nightblood in the needle, leaving an extra one out just in case something went wrong. Like Emori waking up and breaking the needle on the ground.
Abby was now holding the needle, standing next to Emori, holding her arm as she pressed the needle to her skin. But she couldn't do it, she knew it was wrong, she wouldn't risk killing another person, especially one that had been innocent, despite Emori claiming he was the one who tortured her and her brother.
The lab was silent.
"Mum?" Clarke stepped closer to her. "We have to do this," she told her quietly as Abby stared ahead.
She nodded, looking back down to Emori's arm. Her hand shook. Abby then turned to Clarke, shaking her head. "I can't."
Clarke nodded before she took the needle from Abby. "I'll finish it." Clarke held Abby's hand before they switched places. Clarke turned her head back towards you. But you couldn't look at her, Emori didn't deserve to go through this, even if she got someone killed. She then looked to everyone else in the room. "I bear it so they don't have to," Clarke whispered to herself.
"Clarke!" Jackson broke the silence, causing everyone to watch as Clarke injected herself with the Nightblood.
"No." Abby shook her head. "No."
"We're testing me," Clarke looked to her mum.
"Griffin, are you sure?" You asked quietly, looking at her worriedly.
When she had to take the weight of the delinquents, you had been there, quietly keeping her afloat when she wanted to give up. When she didn't believe the Mountain Men, you had been there, watching over the others in the mountain as she worked on a way to get everyone out. When ALLIE had almost destroyed everyone and Clarke was the only one who could do anything about it, you had been there, making sure that no one had got to her while she shut ALLIE down from the inside. Clarke trusted you, making sure to keep you in the loop of all her plans, asking for your opinions and help, almost as her second—without actually being her second.
She turned to look at you, walking over silently, taking you by the arm as she pulled you away from the others. "If anything goes wrong—"
"It won't."
"If anything goes wrong," she stressed again. "I want you to finish what we said we would do together, okay?"
"I don't think I'm capable of that." With the shake of your head, you look down, furrowing your eyebrows together.
Her hand touched your shoulder. "Hey, I didn't ask you to be my partner for nothing, you know. I don't trust anyone more than I do than you."
"What about Bellamy?"
"He's not here. You are. I need you to be the one to do this, you're the only one who can."
"I was never big on pep talks, Griffin."
She smiled. "You don't need to remind me of that."
Clarke's means of persuasion had been through words, while yours was through violence and aggression. She helped balance you out, while you helped her in more tricky situations, often getting yourself in trouble—even hurt in the process. But you always came back, you were always there for her.
"I'll do it." You sighed.
"Thank you." She squeezed your shoulder, moving back over to where the others were, waiting for the effects of the Nightblood to kick in.
You turned your head to the room, walking over to the middle of the lab. Picking up the other needle. You had gone through worse for Clarke. No one noticed what you were doing as they watched and monitored Clarke closely. After placing the Nightblood in the needle, you breathed in deeply. "I'm doing what's best for our people," you spoke, catching their attention. "They need you Clarke, more than they need me." You could hear Clarke yell your name as you pressed the needle into your skin, injecting the dosage of Nightblood into your vein. "I'm sorry," you told her as she took the needle from you, carefully pulling it from your skin. "I'm sorry."
Clarke threw the needle down on the table, holding onto your arms as she stared at you. "Are you crazy?" Her voice echoed through the lab.
"Just a little bit. You're the leader, Clarke, I'm not. We are testing me, and me alone. If this goes south and I end up like Baylis, tell Bellamy—"
"No. No, I won't need to tell him anything because nothing is going to happen to you."
"I've always got your back, Clarke. Even now. Let me carry this weight for you for once. Let me do this."
"I—"
"Tell Bellamy I love him, okay. Can you do that for me?"
Clarke's bottom lip trembled as she nodded. "Yeah, yeah I'll tell him."
-
Clarke was being tested first. Jackson had the vial of blood in her arm as he took a sample. Her body was producing Nightblood on its own. You stood next to the bed, watching closely, the sleeve of your shirt already rolled up for your own test. "It worked," Clarke commented. Everyone watched silently, you glanced back at Abby, then turned back to Clarke.
"It's been two hours," Jackson added. "How do you feel?"
She nodded. "Ready." Slowly, she slid off the bed, walking towards the machine. Emori and Murphy were together as they watched her walk over.
"Clarke," you warned. "Don't." She held her hand out to stop you from walking any closer.
Abby stood in front of her. "I won't let do it."
"Mum. I trust you." Clarke nodded. "It'll work." She looked to Roan. "Hold her back."
"What?" You asked before Roan grabbed hold of you. "Just wait for a second Clarke!"
"Turn it on," she told Jackson.
"Jackson, don't," Abby rushed out, turning her head to look at him quickly before looking back to Clarke. "If you go in there. You will die. I saw it."
"What are you talking about?"
"I saw it."
Raven uncrossed her arms from her chest. "Like I saw the rocket."
"We're wasting time." Clarke moved around Abby.
"Clarke!" You yelled. "You're not doing this, Clarke! Let me go!" You struggled against Roan.
"No!" Abby picked up the end of the IV drip stand, holding it up.
"Mum!" Clarke rushed.
Abby had broken the glass. It cracked, shattering before she broke the wires above it, smashing the smaller glass window at the end. They yelled for her to stop. You stayed quiet, watching in horror. Abby sat down against it, breathing heavily. Clarke turned back to look at you.
"Don't worry," Luna started. "It'll all be over soon." She limped passed you and Roan, towards the stairs.
Clarke walked over to Abby, crouching down in front of her. Abby had tears rolling down her face. "I can't lose you," she sobbed. Clarke nodded and pulled her close, holding her tightly
"You're okay," Clarke replied.
Roan let go of you. Allowing you to walk over to them. "Abby..." You shook your head. "Clarke, if you had just—"
"I wasn't going to let you die!"
"Well, what does it matter now?" You yelled. "We're all dead anyway," you hissed, turning back around to walk up the stairs. It was the last thing you said to her before the others left the island, leaving you and Raven alone.
-
Even though you were angry with Clarke, you had decided to go with her to the satellite tower. Bellamy had been happy to see you, although he wasn't pleased that you planned on almost getting yourself killed. He had left to get Monty with Murphy while the others set up the rocket. Clarke ran ahead as you carried the bag, running behind her, noting how the radiation was getting closer and much more dangerous than you first thought. Clarke's watch only had less than twelve minutes on the countdown, after that, the others would be leaving. She turned back to look at you. "I'm sorry," she told you.
You continued passed her, making your way to the box that the wires went into. "Save it."
"I didn't think she would do that."
"No, Clarke, you just didn't think."
You opened the bag as she opened the door. "Sat Star One," she mumbled as you passed it out to her.
"Take it."
"Can we not fight?"
"We aren't fighting, Clarke. Fighting involves fists. We're having a discussion, one that I want no part of, can we hurry up?"
Clarke tried to plug the machine in. "Sat Star One," she repeated. "Good."
You turned around to look at the trees, watching it get closer.
'Dish not online. Dish not online.' The machine echoed.
"No. No, what did I do wrong?" Clarke slapped the side of the box.
You grabbed the walkie talkie out of the bag. "Clarke." You handed it to her.
"Raven, please say that you can hear me. Something went wrong, I-I did everything you said but—" She looked at the inside part of the door. "Manual operation? You've got to be kidding me."
You looked up. "Looks like we're climbing. I'll get a head start up to the dish, you bring the bag," you told her, moving over to one of the legs. "Godspeed Clarke, Godspeed." You didn't notice that Clarke looked at the timer, counting ten minutes down. She knew that there was no time to fix the dish and then get back.
"Wait!"
"Don't have time, Clarke," you told her as you had already started to climb.
You heard her swear, packing up the tablet and bag. "Raven, Bellamy. If you can hear me... don't wait." Clarke made it to the ladder. "Oso gonplei ste odon."
-
Clarke and yourself had successfully moved the satellite, but the radiation had shut the tablet down, she threw it from the tower. Clarke told you to start making your way down, with her following. "What do we do now? We didn't hit send."
"I don't know!" Clarke yelled in frustration.
Panic set in as you made it to the bottom, you grabbed hold of her arm, pulling her along with you as you both tried making your way back to the lab. Clarke had tripped, cracking a hole into her helmet. "Take mine!" You began to pull it off, a rush of radiated air flew in and you began to choke, almost forgetting about it.
"No, you'll die if you take it off, we have to keep going!" She yelled back.
You glared, placing a hand over the hole of her helmet, dragging her along again. When you reached the lab, she threw the helmet off, throwing up on the table. You took your helmet off as well, rushing over to her. "Clarke!"
She glanced at you. "No." Her hand shook as it raised up to your face, but she collapsed before she could do anything.
"Clarke!" You yelled again, kneeling down beside her before your skin began to burn, your throat began to close as your vision began to fade. The last thing you saw was Clarke's unconscious body before your eyes closed as well.
-
That had been six years and seven days ago.
Thanks to the Nightblood in your systems, both Clarke and yourself had somehow managed to survive. Clarke was sitting on the top of the Jeep, smiling at the warmth of the sun. You sat down off to the side, on the small log, glancing back at her with a grin. She jumped off the hood and picked up the walkie talkie and small satellite, standing it next to you as you plucked at the grass. Clarke sat next to you, lifting the walkie talkie up to her mouth.
"Here we go again," she spoke.
"Doesn't hurt to try."
She nodded. "Raven, Bellamy. If you can... hear me... if you're alive... it's been two thousand, one hundred and ninety-nine days since Praimfaya. I don't know why I still do this every day. Maybe it's my way of staying sane. Not forgetting who I am," Clarke looked at you as she spoke. "Who I was. It's been safe for you to come down for over a year now... Why haven't you? The bunkers gone silent. We tried digging them out for a while but... there was too much rubble. I haven't made contact with them either. Anyway, we still have hope. Raven... aim for the one spot of green and you'll find us. The rest of the planet, from what we've seen, basically sucks, so..." A loud sound caused her to stop. A ship began to descend from the sky. Both of you stood up. "Never mind. I see you." Clarke ran back to the Jeep.
You stayed behind and watched, it wasn't them. Maddy, the young Nightblood who you both looked after had run out. She told Clarke that she thought the ship they had was small. Clarke ran out to stand with you, telling Maddy to get the rifle. She looked through the eye glass, handing it over to you quickly. You looked at the ship, seeing, 'Prison Transport' was written on the side.
"Over here, we're over here!" Maddy yelled.
"Get down." Clarke pulled her down, you crouched down watching it carefully. "I want you to back up the rover, get it out of sight and load the guns."
"All of them?"
Clarke nodded. "All of them."
Maddy ran off and you turned to Clarke. "How the tables have turned," you told her, gripping the file tightly.
-
Clarke rushed into your room in the old, run-down, building you had found. It was small, but it was strong enough to have survived Praimfaya. You laid on the bed, watching as your son slept, his dark, messy, brown curls were already growing too long, getting in the way of his face, but you didn't have the heart to cut them, at least not yet. You turned to look at her, she had a wide smile on her face. "Someone's here."
"Who?" Your expression changed from calm to aggressive in under a second as you picked up your rifle.
"Leave it," she told you, grabbing your hand. Clarke pulled you out of the room, dragging you down the hallway. She opened the front door—which wasn't exactly a door, more like a large metal slab that you managed to cover in plants and vines to keep it hidden amongst the rest of the overgrown building. You stepped outside, squinting as the sun almost blinded you. Clarke let go of your hand, pointing to the side.
You turned away from her and noticed Bellamy standing there. It could only have been a dream, there was no way that he and the others were back on Earth. You froze. Bellamy could barely move either, he stared at you, his eyes watering as he uttered your name. That was all it took before your feet pushed off the ground, rushing you over to where he was. Without a word, his lips crashed onto yours. His hands gripped the back of your shirt tightly, locking your body to his as he lifted you up from the ground slightly. Your arms wound around the back of his neck, tangling with his hair. He placed your feet back on the ground, his left hand trailed up your back, holding the back of your head, keeping your lips on his for just a moment longer. Tears had begun rolling down both of your faces. The kiss was barely contained as both of your smiles grew.
A small hand tugged at both of your trousers, Bellamy was the first to pull away. He looked down to the small boy who stared at Bellamy, holding his hands up to you. With a small laugh, mixed with a cry, you bent down, lifting him up from the ground. His arms wrapped tightly around your neck, his legs wrapped around your waist. "Don't cry, mummy," he whispered to you, wiping your tears with his small hands.
"Mu—"
"Say hello to your dad, baby," you interrupted Bellamy, looking at your son.
He turned his head to Bellamy. "Hi," he spoke quietly, turning back to you.
Bellamy's breathing deepened as more tears rolled down his face. "He's my..." He looked from you to your son. "How?"
"I didn't know I was pregnant before you left. I'm guessing the Nightblood I injected into myself transferred to him. Kept us both alive."
"Is he—?"
"A Nightblood?" Bellamy nodded. "Yeah, all four of us are."
"Four?"
"Clarke, Maddy, him, and myself."
"I have a son." Bellamy began to smile, stepping closer to pull you towards him.
"Before you left..." Bellamy pulled his head away, looking down at you. "Did you mean what you said to me?"
-
Bellamy had arrived at the island. With him, there was Clarke, Monty, Harper, Murphy, Emori, and Echo. Raven had already begun telling them what was wrong, giving them jobs. Bellamy pulled you away for a second.
"Clarke told me what you did."
"Let me guess, you're going to yell at me?"
"You could have died."
"I could have helped them find a cure."
"You could have died. I don't want the last thing I say to you to be, 'try not to start another war'."
"If it worked then it wouldn't have been." You shrugged.
"Don't you hear yourself? You just said 'if'. That doesn't give me any confidence."
"You have very little faith in me, Bell, I'm hurt." You crossed your arms over your chest, obviously making light of the situation.
"I'm not kidding."
"Did she tell you that I love you?"
"She didn't get around to it, no."
"I told her to tell you."
"You don't need her to tell me, you can tell me."
"I just did."
Bellamy rolled his eyes. "Tell me again."
"Bellamy Blake, I am, and forever will be, in love with you."
"My turn."
"Ah, great, the stage is all yours."
"No matter how annoying you are, you still somehow find a way to be the one person I love more than my sister," he started. "I'm in love with you, and the end of the world isn't going to change that. You make me feel less of a monster, less of a murderer and more of a human who has flaws like everybody else. I love you, no matter what."
"Keep this up and I'll have no option but to marry you," you joked.
"I was getting to that."
"What?" You stared at him.
"I wanted to ask if you'll have me, whether you will do me the honour of marrying me?"
You barely managed to whisper out, "We're going to die, Bellamy." As you went into a small state of shock.
"Just say you'll marry me."
"I will."
"If we die... well... may we meet again."
"We will, and when we do I'm marrying your slow ass."
-
He breathed in, nodding his head slowly. "I did mean it. Did you?"
"We already have a son together, we have a lot of catching up to do. But, yeah, I did."
