Chapter 4
After my encounter with Mr. Cavanagh, things seemed to just get better and better, after all we just put that night past us and work has been great. Since the burden got uplifted from my shoulders, everything is running pretty smooth and I'd like to keep it that way. The whole Cavanagh Tower is going insane for the Annual Cavanagh Fundraiser which is supposed to happen this Sunday ie. The day after tomorrow. Rumor has it that this year is gonna be completely different, although I've never been to this fundraiser before but people are saying that it is a pretty grand event, and all the funds generated from the event goes to the Pink Cross Cancer Organisation.
"Hey, busy bee. Wanna grab lunch with us?" Janice asks with a joyful smile plastered on her face.
"Sure! Did anything special happen of which I don't know?" I ask confused
Tom intervenes "You need to work less girl! Kevin and I have decided our wedding date and we have decided to have a lunch with all of you. So get that ass out of that chair and join us in our celebration." He says linking his hands with Kevin.
"Oh, that's wonderful! so when's the big day?" I am so happy for them. They have waited so long for this to happen and now finally!
"30th of this month... which is in less than 15 days. God help us!" They both exclaim with joy.
So we head to Eleven Madison Park for our extravagant Luncheon. We all decided to have Steak and Ice cream souffles. The interiors of the restaurant were incredibly calming and inviting. Speaks for its high priced menu and small portions though.
"Have you guys heard of this years theme for the fundraiser? It's bollocks!" Matt exclaims
everyone shook their head.
"I thought it was top secret which will be only revealed tomorrow." said Kevin
"Yeah I know but I overheard Ellie talking to Mr. Cavanagh's assistant. She said it was going to be a Masquerade Ball! Holy hell what are we in? the 18th century?" Matt replied
To be honest I find Masquerade balls pretty elegant and mysterious! No one knows you, no one judges you based on your looks. The whole element of mystery entrances me.
Janice seems to approve, as she gushes about finding a masked knight for herself and I just shake my head. Janice and her weird obsession with fairy-tales.
"What are you gonna wear? Do you have a dress in mind?" Janice asks, bringing me back from my mind chatter
"Oh, uhm I don't know. Maybe I'll just make it a fusion between old school and modern style?" Even I am not sure what I'll wear for this event.
"Not bad actually, it sounds like a great idea to be honest" she said, putting together an outfit in her mind.
The lunch was amazing. We all toasted to the future couples happiness and wished them health and wealth for their future. Work wasn't so bad either. I did my work meticulously and when it was time to leave, we all were handed envelopes with the theme of the fundraiser, and Matt was right. It was a masquerade ball and it's a +1 event. Chase to the rescue. It'll be a great opportunity for him to get work as all of Mr.Cavanagh's clientele will be there and it will be good exposure for Chase.

"Try the harlot red dress that you have. You'll cause a disaster at the scene" Chase said going through my wardrobe. Is he insane!
"Chase, I can't go to an office party dressed like Julia Roberts from pretty woman before Richard Gere transformed her wardrobe. I need something that says Classy not something that says I'll sleep with you for 20 bucks." I am stressed and can't find anything to wear.
The fundraiser will start in 2 hours and I don't have a freaking dress, and I'm doubting Chase's Fashion sense right now even though he's a bloody model!
"Oooh lala this one is the one" Chase exclaims holding a black cocktail dress with a net leg slit. Two word. Elegant and classy. Just the perfect match!
"Done. I'm wearing it" I say examining the lacey material of the dress.
"Oh, and a black chocker! It'd be the icing on the cake with those black punk heels. Honestly, I should just become a stylist but modeling jobs pay way better." He said that last bit wondering to himself, but he's right. My look tonight is gonna be so badass!

"OH MY GOD! Yaaaaas. Girl you're slaying the life out of Beyoncé right now like even she'd kill to be you right now. C'mon this legendary moment needs to be captured and has to be posted on your instagram. All the bitches are gonna lose chill when they all see you in that dress" Chase says clicking my picture while I just wonder why I have this Internet drama queen as my best friend? But I wouldn't have it any other way.
Before leaving the apartment we take a few good pictures together. We get into the Uber, while I am busy staring out and enjoying the view, Chase keeps himself occupied as he posts those pics on Instagram and Snapchat.
We reach the venue for the fundraiser, which appears to be Mr. Cavanagh's country mansion and holy shit, it's huge! We get out of the Uber and wear our masks. I took a black mask with little pearls embroidered to its edges while Chase went for a Silver.
We walk together towards the mansion. It's packed with photographers flashing there cameras at the people, and there also happens to be freaking carpet. A pink carpet, since the funds are going into cancer research. I feel so like a celebrity right now but with my wobbly legs I would have been kissing the ground if it weren't for Chase's arm at my back guiding me through the crowd. This event is a big one and you can tell that by seeing the guest of honor, Angelina Freaking Jolie and Chase starts to have a fangirl/panic attack just by looking at her posing for the paparazzi and now I am the one who has to support him to stand straight.
We enter into the mansion and are faced to a proper 1870's vibe and everyone looking like they are out of the Great Gatsby movie and I kind of feel out of place with my fusion outfit because everyone is looking hella classy and I look like a punk reject, as if I don't belong here. To be honest, I literally don't belong here. Like c'mon, I am breathing the same air as Angelina Jolie. Chase wanders off to flatter the Creative Associates of Balmain. Good for him. What could be better if he gets signed by these high profile labels. I walk towards the table serving champagne. I would've rather liked wine but have to make do with rose champagne. 'rich parties and their love for champagne' I mutter under my breath but seems like someone hears my plea. An old lady in her late 70's to be precise.
"Tell me about it dear, I told Nathaniel to serve big shots in here but he won't rather see me living my life" The old woman says in a trance
"You know Nathan-.. I mean Mr. Cavanagh? " I ask
" Of-course I know him. Why wouldn't I know my grandchild?"
Shit. seems like I might have pissed Mrs. Cavanagh Senior. How dumb can I be?
I just reply with an "Oh!"
Grandma Cavanagh starts laughing and says "No worries dear. People often get confused due to my gorgeous young looks" and I join into the laughter
"To be honest, yeah, you look pretty bad-ass for your age. Not a day over 40" I say humorously but grandma Cavanagh gives me a really dirty look and I shiver. She starts laughing again and says "dear, not a day over 30" and clinks her glass with mine and gave me a wink. Looks like I just got punked by a 70 year old.
"This is a +1 event young lady, what are you doing alone? A beautiful flower like you shouldn't be alone"
"Oh no, My friend is here with me, but he's just getting around here trying to make contacts for his career" I say looking around for Chase
" A friend? Darling, you should have someone more than a friend with you" she says looking at me from my head to toe
"Nah, It's just me, myself and I, solo ride until I die" I say smiling at her
and she replies with "I don't need a hand to hold,Even when the night is cold,I got that fire in my soul" and I just stare at her with my eyes as big as saucers. Grandma Cavanagh seems to be a Hood grandma. Yikes.
"Woah, You are the most hip grandma I've ever seen" I say genuinely
She literally does a dab. A freaking dab, and says "Thanks. Tell that to Nathaniel. He thinks I am an immature old hag"
"Now, I never said that Grams." Mr. Cavanagh's voice booms from my behind in a chirpy tone.
"Oh dear you don't have to say it, your face says it all. It's like an open book, anyone can read through you" she says hugging him and air kissing his cheeks.
It's pretty evident that the grandson and grandma are really fond of each other. Yet a new side of Mr. Cavanagh I get to see. I wonder how many more layers he has.
I am brought back from my thought bubble when grandma Cavanagh says "Nathan, dear I was just talking with this very nice young lady uh.."
"Emilia" I reply. And I see recognition cross Mr. Cavanagh's face as he scans my face and then my outfit.
"Yes, Emilia. Nathaniel would you be a dear and ask this beautiful flower for a dance since you refuse to bring a date to your own event" I blush profusely at her words as I go blank for a moment.
"No, it's completely fine Mrs. Cavanagh. I am having a good time, really."
"You can call me Lily and I insist that you two dance. This grumpy guy needs some dancing, trust me" she says eyeing Mr. Cavanagh who sulks and rolls his eyes.
