They don't wonder about what they're made of. They don't think about their blood and bones being held together by strings of muscle and a prayer. They don't understand their veins, sprawling, sickly things running deep beneath skin, branching through every part of them like a spiderweb.

They certainly don't understand that storms take those veins and rip them apart. That storms replace the parts gluing you together with static. Isolation was turned into a chance for rest. Peace was found in shingled cracks hiding in the mind. And the spider's web beneath your skin has transformed into a circuit box, ready to destruct.

Levina could say this from experience.

H.Y.D.R.A had not been kind to her. Her parents had not been kind to her. Life, as a whole, had not been kind to her. From ages ten to thirteen, Levina was treated like a brewing storm. Being poked and prodded at, being taken apart and stitched back together, paying the price her parents should have paid when they turned their backs on the most dangerous organization in the world. She didn't remember how they died, but she remembered how she lived. How she was part of an experiment she didn't sign up for, but was too young to question why. H.Y.D.R.A shoved her in a lab and held her down until her old life frayed at the edges. Until the face of her father went milky and her mother's perfume smelled sour. Until everything was stripped and beaten away to make room for their storm.

Her own name, turned into a grotesque puppet of a word. A thing that howled wind and struck you dead. They moderated her every move to make sure they were turning her into what they wanted her to be. Something catastrophic.

Even when the Avengers were crashing operations left and right, they poured everything into her like she would be their salvation. When the dust settled, she would be the legacy they left behind.

And when they found her, bloodied and bruised in the back of a Jeep, Levina promised she would be the dust herself. She would die with the people who made her.

Years later, after she'd been rescued and relocated with an ex-S.H.I.E.L.D agent, Levina kept true to her promise. With the hoarse, straining voice she could barely use, and the scars lining her arms, it was something she could not forget. Like Baron Von Strucker, or the pair of twins that managed to both outlast and outrun her. The twins she missed sometimes. Even with all the horrible things that came with them.

That part of life was shoved away and a new one began. Now fifteen in Queens, New York, Levina is mute and aching and her storm is untamed, but at least she is free. Although freedom is fickle nowadays.

When the hurricane inside her acts up on a walk home and she's forced to seek shelter in an alleyway to calm down, she catches some guy wringing himself out of a spandex suit right in front of her. Then she's trapped in something else entirely.

One of her classmates is Spider-Man. Peter Parker is Queens' favourite vigilante, and now he knows Levina isn't free of secrets either. Maybe it's the flicker of green in her veins or the ball of static her hands formed out of thin air, but it was easy for him to figure that she wasn't normal. He also figured that he should convince her to use the curses she'd been given. Naturally, when Peter wraps himself in a sticky situation, he forces it upon Levina to help him out. They're barely friends but apparently it's not that weird because they've both been genetically altered. It's a pathetic deal—Levina's help for Peter's company—but it's the closest thing she can get to an honest relationship with someone her age. So she would have to take it and feel like a benevolent sidekick to someone who probably doesn't even like her. Unless Peter knows something she doesn't. (Which he most definitely does not. Right?)

The world knows she isn't so little anymore. The hurricane at her core only grows with time. And the little girl, the little girl who never wondered about the tempest of the natural universe, was dead.

There is a violent, windy storm brewing inside Levina. And Peter Parker is going to help her let it loose.
