28. Sick
Warning for vomit
Really the last thing that Josh wanted to do the morning of the 3rd was go back to school but he pulled himself out of bed and was about to enter the bathroom when he stopped, grimacing at the what he saw.
Jordan was leaning over the toilet, puking violently.
Josh leaned against the doorframe. Jordan probably ended up drinking or something. "Want me to hold your hair back?"
Jordan still managed to flip him off as he sat on the floor and emptied his stomach into the porcelain bowl. Once he got a moment, he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. "I think I have the flu."
"Let me feel your head," Josh sighed, feeling bad as he realized Jordan hadn't brought it upon himself. He touched Jordan's forehead and it was hot to the touch. "Yeah, you're definitely running a fever. It is flu season. You should have gotten a shot with Mom, Dad, and I."
"Leave me alone," he croaked out. "I feel like shit. Some asshole probably got me sick when I went to dinner last night."
"Do you want me to get Mom?"
"Yeah," Jordan replied miserably before going back to throwing up.
Josh sighed and walked into his parents' room, seeing his mom getting ready for work. "Morning, honey," she smiled.
"Morning," he hummed. "Jordan's sick. He's puking in the bathroom."
His mom frowned. "Aw, baby," she spoke sadly before walking off. "Use my bathroom to get ready," she called.
Josh grabbed a towel before going back into his parents' bathroom and starting a shower.
While he waited for it to warm up, he ran his hand through his hair and let out a sigh. It was his last semester of high school. He could do this.
He quickly showered and changed into one of Tyler's hoodies he gave Josh and a pair of jeans. He readjusted his nose ring and fixed his hair before grabbing his bag and leaving his room.
He saw Jordan's door was open and that his little brother was now laying in his bed with a thermometer in his mouth.
Their mom walked back in with a packet of saltines and some ginger ale a few moments later. The thermometer been led and she sighed. "102.7 degrees."
Jordan let out a groan. "I'm gonna puke again."
Their mom quickly moved out of the way and Jordan leapt up and ran into the bathroom. "I'll probably stay home with him if he's this sick."
Josh nodded. "Let me know how he's feeling. I'm gonna head to school."
"Bye, sweetheart. I love you too."
Josh shot her a smile before getting up. "I love you too."
He left and was about to walk out the door when he saw he was getting an incoming class. He saw it was Tyler and stopped walking, a worried look on his face. Answering the call, he put his phone to his ear. "Hello?"
"Fuck!" Tyler let out an angry noise. "Josh?"
"What's wrong, Ty?"
"My car won't start. Can you come pick me up? I'd walk but that would look suspicious."
"Of course," Josh assured as he continued walking to his car, making sure to side step a big chunk of ice on the sidewalk. "I'll be there soon, okay?"
"Thanks Josh," Tyler breathed out before hesitating. "I love you."
"I love you too, babe," Josh smiled. "See you soon," he added before hanging up.
The drive to Tyler's was short and he pulled into his driveway a little over five minutes later. Tyler walked out of his house with an annoyed face but smiled slightly when he saw Josh.
He got in and let out a sigh. "I'm apologizing in advance if I'm in a shitty mood or if I snap at you at all today."
"I appreciate that. What's wrong?" Josh asked as he backed out and began driving towards the school.
"I'm hungry and when I'm hungry I get annoyed and snippy."
Josh didn't say anything at first, not knowing if Tyler could tell what he was about to say.
"And don't offer to—"
"Why not?" Josh asked seriously. "I know you said you don't trust yourself but I trust you and if you need me then I want to be there for—"
"No," Tyler interrupted. "You've heard why I won't do it again. I'm not talking about it anymore because I don't want to snap at you."
Josh let out a sigh. "Okay."
It was quiet for a moment before Tyler started talking again. "Where's Jordan? Don't you drive him to school?"
"Yeah he's sick. He got the flu."
Tyler nodded. "Yeah Jenna's mom got it and won't be in class today. Something's going around."
"Something like the flu?" Josh glanced at Tyler with an amused face.
That got him to smile despite the eye roll. "Well it is flu season so yes the flu."
The two made light conversation until they got to school. Josh parked where he usually did and the two walked in together, Josh shivering from the cold and Tyler pretending to be cold.
They got inside and made their way to where they usually met Jenna by her locker.
However, they were stopped halfway there by Rylee. "Hey, Josh?" She began sweetly, a concerned look on her face.
"Hey, Rylee. What's up?"
"Where's Jordan. I tried texting him but he didn't answer. I'm worried."
"Yeah, he's home sick. Too busy puking his guts out to do anything else. I'm sure he'll text you back when he gets the chance."
She nodded understandingly. "Thanks for letting me know."
"Of course," Josh smiled before she said goodbye to both him and Tyler and walked off.
"Y'know maybe I was wrong about her," Tyler spoke up. "She's a really nice girl. I'm glad Jordan's with her and actually treats her good. I'm glad he doesn't annoy Jenna anymore either," he added as they approached Jenna's locker.
"Ugh, me too," she joined. When Josh gave her a weird look she smiled. "I could hear you down the hallway," she reminded, tapping her ear to remind him of her super hearing.
"That's something I'll probably never get used to."
"It's great because you can't talk shit about me when I'm relatively in the same area as you," she grinned.
"Damn," Tyler sighed. "Forgot about that."
Josh nudged his shoulder. "Be nice," he playfully scolded. "How's your mom?"
"Sick but better. She should be back tomorrow. Jordan's sick too?" She asked for confirmation because Josh knew she heard him say it.
"Yeah. I hope I don't get it."
"Me neither," Tyler agreed. "But if you do I'll come take care of you while you are sick because I can't catch anything and I'll cuddle you and keep you warm," he cooed obnoxiously as he pinched Josh's cheek.
Josh smacked his hand away and Tyler cracked up laughing. "Jokes on you because if I do get sick I'll only let Jenna take care of me."
"I'm very motherly I think I'd do a good job," she nodded.
"Both of you can't gang up on me," Tyler pouted. "Then I'll have no one."
"What about Dallon on the basketball team? You're the closest with him out of all the guys."
"He's straight," Tyler waved the idea off.
"Hey!"
"What I said I wasn't going to leave you for a dead boy not a basketball boy."
Josh rolled his eyes as the bell rang. "Whatever, dork. I'm going to class," he pecked him quickly on the lips. "I love you."
"I love you too."
He left a squealing Jenna and a love stuck Tyler as he went to class.
