25. Trust

Warning for slight panic attack.

I'm double updating since I'll be busy the next few days and wanted to roll another one out. I don't know if I like this chapter though :/

Josh let out a sigh, his head resting in the palm of his hand. It was the Monday a week after his job interview and he was exhausted. He had worked all weekend.

Luckily, it was the week of Thanksgiving so they only had two days to suffer through. Well, for Josh to suffer through. Tyler and Jenna seemed fine.

"What's wrong?" Tyler asked him worriedly.

"I'm so tired," Josh groaned, resting his head on Tyler's shoulder. He felt Tyler wrap his arm around Josh and pull him closer.

"I will admit," Jenna hummed out. "That's the one nice thing about being a vampire. We're never tired."

Josh whined. "Can I be dead for one day? Just to catch up on sleep."

Tyler let out a laugh and kissed his forehead. "Sadly you cannot."

"Hey," Josh yawned out, causing Tyler and Jenna to both cool. "What do you want for your birthday on Sunday?"

Tyler didn't respond at first so he looked up to see him sharing a look with Jenna. "Uh."

"What's wrong? I didn't get the day wrong, did I? I made sure to take the day off—"

"I'm not celebrating my birthday this year," he told Josh sadly.

"What? Why not?"

"Immortal, remember? I'll have lots of birthdays."

Josh frowned. "But you only turn 18 once!"

"Sorry, baby," Tyler finalized. "I've already decided not to. We can still hang out but if you get me anything—"

"What?" Josh challenged jokingly. "What are you going to do?"

Tyler and Jenna both shot him a look.

"Right. Blood suckers, forgot about that."

Tyler let out a chuckle. "I love—" he stopped, his eyes widening. He cleared his throat. "I love uh, math! Math. Today was fun. Mrs. Black's a great teacher."

Josh gave him a confused look. "We had a sub today. Jenna said she had an appointment."

Tyler waved him off. "Never mind it. Hey I uh wanted to talk to you about something. I already told Jenna because she was with me when I found out."

"What's up?"

"So I forgot I applied to a few colleges at the end of junior year last year. Before everything happened. I got my acceptance letter in the mail for University of Denver on Saturday. I, uh, think I'm gonna go. I know I said I wasn't too psyched about college—"

Josh broke out into a smile. "No! Go for it! I'm so proud of you!"

"Really?"

"Yeah? Why wouldn't I be?"

"Well I know you committed to Ohio State in the middle of October before we started dating and I just didn't want you to be mad."

"Mad is the last thing I'd be. I'm really happy for you, Ty," he turned to Jenna. "Do you still plan on going there too?"

"Yeah," she smiled.

"That's awesome, Ty," Josh pressed a quick kiss to his lips. "I'm really happy for you."

"Thanks," Tyler beamed. "For being so supportive."

"That's my job," he reminded.

But as supportive as Josh was, it didn't mean his heart didn't break a little when he realized they wouldn't be together after the summer.

---

Josh sighed as he scooped old popcorn out of the maker. He was excited to have a job but he was not excited about working this late.

Since it was the Tuesday after and he didn't have school the next day, he offered to be one of the few to work the late shift. The theater closed at midnight after the final showings but not many people came this late.

He was off at one but if he finished his closing duties early he could leave before then. It was 12:30 so he was aiming to get out in the next fifteen minutes. Everyone else was gone so it was just him. It was the smaller theater in town so he felt fine finishing things on his own.

He saw two guys walk into the theater and Josh cursed himself for not locking the door. "Hey, we're closed," he explained.

One of them smiled at Josh assuringly. "My friend left his wallet in one of the theaters. Can we go check to see if it's there?"

"Uh, yeah. Sure," he swallowed nervously. They thanked him before walking off into theater three.

Josh's gut told him something was wrong so he grabbed his phone out and texted Tyler.

Josh
Hey I'm in the middle of closing and these two weirdos are here to find something they left. I don't feel right

Tyler luckily texted back moments later.

Tyler
I'll hang out with you until you get off. Protect you if anything happens

Josh smiled and set his phone back in his pocket. Tyler only lived about five minutes from downtown. He should be there soon.

He was in the process of wiping down the counters when the two men walked back out a few minutes later. They approached the counter and Josh stopped, looking at them.

"We couldn't find it. Is there a lost and found?" The one from before asked. Josh noticed how his features looked slightly familiar.

"Yeah but it's in our managers office and I don't have the key to get in there. You can come back tomorrow?" He suggested.

"Are you here alone?" The second one asked, giving Josh a charming smile.

Josh couldn't help but feel like that smile was pulling him in. He realized the man was very handsome. Very... captivating.

"Uh, y-yes," he stuttered out, feeling no control over what he was saying.

The second man's eyes caught his name tag and his smile only grew. "Josh, huh? Cute name for a cute boy..." he leaned in. "Are you attracted to guys, Josh?"

"Yes," he replied again, feeling himself get lost in the strangers eyes.

"Huh," he smirked and leaned in so his mouth was next to Josh's ear. Josh noticed the first guy was watching with an amused look on his face. However, he wasn't panicked. He felt completely at ease. "So what if I just..."

He saw that the stranger was about to do something else when the door opened.

Suddenly aware of his surroundings, Josh blinked and looked over, seeing Tyler standing there. His fangs were out and he had an eyebrow raised. "Do we have a problem here?" He asked.

The man who had been talking to Josh let out a laugh. "Holy shit! It's the kid."

Tyler was standing in front of Josh in a split second and Josh forgot for a moment that he had supernatural speed. He had just never seen it in full effect.

Josh's heart began rapidly beating as he noticed Tyler was standing in front of the counter protectively. "The kid? Who the hell are you?"

"I thought you were dead," the man laughed out. "You think you'd remember the guy you had a very intimate moment with in the woods."

Josh couldn't see Tyler's face but he could tell that it paled. "What?"

Josh peeked his head out from behind Tyler's shoulder and saw a look on his boyfriend's face that looked like he wanted to commit homicide. He knew he was capable of doing it too.

"Is this your boyfriend? Cute. The high schooler is trying to stand up against two powerful vampires," the man spoke, causing him and his friend to laugh. "My moment's ruined. Sad. I was really... starving."

"I suggest you get the fuck out of here before you end up with a missing fang," Tyler threatened.

The two just laughed again before making their way towards the door. The one who had been flirting with Josh turned back and threw him a wink. "Until next time, Cutie. I can smell you. You're gonna be delicious."

Josh waited for them to leave before letting a panicked wheeze escape his lips. "That was the guy who..." he attempted, feeling his chest tighten. "He tried..."

"Josh, breathe," Tyler tried, talking to him softly. Josh saw his mouth looked normal again.

"I can't," his eyes filled with tears. "He was going to either feed from me or kill me, Tyler. He didn't care. If you hadn't been here..."

Tyler went around so he was on the same side of the counter as Josh and the latter felt himself get pulled into a hug. "It's okay..." Tyler soothed. "I promised I wouldn't let anything happen to you. Nothing did."

Josh was too shaken up to clean anything properly so Tyler helped him half ass the rest of his duties before helping him lock up. Josh clocked out a few minutes before one and the two walked out together.

Josh stopped in front of his car, obviously still scared. "I don't wanna go home alone," he admitted.

"Get in my car. I'll bring you to get yours tomorrow."

Josh did as he was told and the car ride to his house was silent. They got to his house and he stared at it, fear evident.

"C'mon, I'll help you to bed," Tyler offered.

His parents and brother were asleep so the two made it to Josh's room very quirky. Tyler helped Josh change into sweats before the latter climbed into bed.

"Goodnight, Josh," he spoke, walking towards the door.

Josh let out a panicked noise. "Stay with me."

Tyler sighed. "Josh, I have to go. I was about to... uh..." he swallowed. "Go feed."

Josh gave him a look. "If I'm alone I'm definitely going to have a breakdown."

"I can come back after—"

Josh held his wrist out. "Here."

"What?"

"Feed from me."

Tyler looked at him like he was insane. Maybe he was. "Hell no. Someone else just tried to do that half an hour ago. I'm not about to do it."

"Tyler. Please. I trust you and I really need you here with me."

Tyler sighed and sat on the bed. "You're still shaken up. You don't know what you're saying. I'm not going to take advantage of you like that."

Josh sighed. "I promise it's okay. I know you'll stop when you need to. I'd rather you feed from me and then stay here," his voice went quiet. "I just don't want to be alone. Plus, wouldn't you rather have it be consensual than you having to manipulate someone?"

Tyler looked like he was having a mental battle with himself. "Fine," he decided. "I'm only taking a little bit and I'm never doing this again."

Josh held his wrist out to Tyler and the younger shakily grabbed it. He looked terrified. "I trust you," Josh repeated.

He saw Tyler eyeing the main vein in his wrist and he looked away. "Ready?"

"Ready," Josh whispered out.

He felt his fangs pierce the skin and he let out a small whimper at the initial impact. It didn't feel at all like he thought it would. It was sort of similar to getting blood drawn but Tyler tightly held his other hand the whole time and he could he feel his boyfriend's lips around his skin.

It went on for a few seconds until Josh felt his eyelids flutter. "Ty..." he spoke.

Tyler instantly pulled back. Josh watched him lick the two little holes over his wrist and they began to close up. Moments later they were just scars.

"Did I take too much?" He asked worriedly, his fangs retracting. It was weird for Josh to see his own blood on his boyfriend's lips. "Usually the neck is easier to gauge because I'm so used to taking from the vein there—"

Josh felt fuzzy inside but not in a bad way. He didn't think he lost too much blood but he felt lighter. He let out a content sigh. "No, I think we're okay."

Tyler nodded hesitantly. "Okay," he replied guiltily.

Josh situated himself so he was laying comfortably before taking Tyler's arms and wrapping them around his own waist. "You can leave after I fall alseep," he yawned out. "Or you can stay the night. I don't care. I'll make up a lie to my parents in the morning about why you stayed if you decide to."

"Goodnight, Josh," was all Tyler said. Josh could tell he still felt bad.

He turned and pressed a kiss to Tyler's lips, grimacing when he got a faint taste of blood. "You're okay," he assured. "I wouldn't have asked if I wasn't okay with it," he paused. "How did it taste? I just got the last of it on my own lips and it's fucking nasty but..."

Tyler smiled. "Sweet. Like those butterscotch candies old ladies have."

Josh laughed. "Thanks? I think."

"You're welcome."

They resituated themselves and Josh snuggled close to his boyfriend. "Goodnight to you too, Tyler."
