2. eleven
"Cammie?" Max said.
Cammie looked up from the magazine she was reading on the kitchen floor while Hopper, Joyce, Johnathon and Mike interrogated Will in the shed.
"Max?" she said.
Max sighed and sat down beside her.
"I'm sorry," she said.
Cammie looked at her with a small frown.
"Why? Is this about... Is this about the bus?" Cammie asked, keeping her voice low.
"No. I mean, not when we were on the roof," Max blushed. "I'm saying sorry for not believing Lucas when he told me about everything. I believe it now," Max said.
"I never cared if you believed. I just cared that you didn't get hurt. The last thing I want is you in danger because of my mess," Cammie said.
Max grabbed her hand and squeezed it.
"I didn't. You saved me today on that bus. Thank you," Max said. Cammie shrugged, looking at her lap to hide her blush.
"Anytime," she said.
"So, I do have some questions," Max said.
"Go on," Cammie said.
"What exactly are your powers?" Max said.
Cammie sighed and leaned back against the cupboard.
"Well, I'm not like Eleven, for one. She has one power but she has so much control over it and can manipulate it. I have loads of little ones that I'm still learning about," Cammie said.
"Right," Max nodded.
"So, I have super strength. I can carry mostly anything without it even hurting. Then I've got trajectory manipulation," Cammie said.
"What's that?" Max asked.
Cammie grabbed a knife off the side and levitated it. She spun her finger in circles and the knife copied.
"I can control objects and how they move and stuff," Cammie said.
"That's how you closed your door when I came to your place. I thought I was going insane," Max said.
Cammie laughed quietly, throwing the knife in the sink.
"Then I can manipulate people. And no, I know it's not very impressive, but I can make anyone do anything I want just with a few words," Cammie said.
"Prove it," Max said.
"How? We're all busy," Cammie said.
"Do it to me," Max said.
"No. I'm not using my powers on you and even if I did, you'd never know because you're in a trance. I have a rule not to use it against my friends or family unless it's absolutely necessary," Cammie said.
"That's fair," Max said.
"Then I can speak to dead people. Eleven could go into a void and talk to people and I can do it, too, but mostly with dead people. Then you know about my time jumps," Cammie shrugged.
"Do you like having them?" Max asked.
"Comes in handy fighting these fuckers," Cammie said.
"Yeah," Max smiled slightly. "How did you get them? Lucas said they're new," she said.
"El told me. I had a vision, I guess, and she told me about it afterwards. I had another vision and found out. I just didn't know as a kid," Cammie said.
"What did they mean about going back to the lab?" Max said. Cammie sighed.
"I told you I was adopted and my dad died. I was in the lab as a kid and he escaped with me, died to get me away from the people there. That's how I have my powers. I don't remember anything about the first six years of my life but the night he died," Cammie said. "Obviously, I've been in my void a lot over the past year and my dad told me about things and showed me his memories of me being there, but I don't actually remember it happening to me," Cammie mumbled.
"Seriously?" Max said. Cammie nodded. "Holy shit. I'm so sorry," Max said, squeezing her hand.
"Don't be. I can speak to him so it's not like he's actually gone," Cammie said.
The backdoor burst open and Hopper ran in with Joyce, Mike and Johnathon. Cammie jumped up and time jumped to the kitchen.
"What happened?" Dustin said.
"I think he's talking, just not with words," Hopper scribbled something down on a piece of paper.
"What is that?" Steve asked.
"Morse code," Mike, Dustin, Lucas and Cammie chorused. He blinked.
"H-E-R-E," Hopper said.
"Here," Cammie said.
"Will's still in there. He's talking to us," Hopper said.
"Dash, dot, dash, dot," Dustin relayed the message from the walkie.
Cammie and Max looked over the translation chart.
"C," Max said.
"Got it," Cammie wrote a C on the board they were using.
"L. O." Lucas translated the beeps from the walkie.
"S. E." Dustin said.
"Close," Cammie mumbled. "Close the gate. It's gonna be the gate," she said.
"G. A. T. E," Lucas finished.
Cammie nodded and wrote it down.
"Close gate," she said.
"How do we do that?" Max said.
"Cammie, can you do it?" Nancy said. Cammie shrugged.
"I don't know. I might be able to," she said.
The phone rang and Dustin slammed it back down so it stopped.
"Do you think he heard that?" Dustin asked.
It rang again and Cammie waved her hand. The entire phone ripped off the wall and landed in a heap on the floor.
"Maybe," she said.
"It's just a phone. It could be anywhere, right?" Nancy asked hopefully.
There was a loud screech in the distance.
"They're coming," Cammie's entire face drained.
The door burst open and Hopper ran in. Joyce and Johnathon were carrying Will behind him. Hopper grabbed a rifle.
"Do you know how to use this?" he asked Johnathon.
"What?" he said.
"Do you know how to use this?" Hopper repeated.
"I do," Nancy said.
He threw it to her and she loaded it up.
"Wow," Cammie whispered.
"Your gay is showing," Steve hissed, slapping her arm to try and get her to focus.
"No, it isn't," she hissed back.
She looked around and grabbed a few knives from the kitchen. She levitated them all in the air. Everyone gathered around in a circle, ready to fight off the Demo-dogs.
Hopper and Nancy cocked their guns, Steve swung his bat ready and Lucas had his wrist rocket. Other than them and Cammie, everyone else was defenceless. Dustin was hiding near Lucas, Mike beside them. Max cowered behind Cammie and Johnathon was behind Nancy. Joyce was behind Hopper, her hand holding Johnathon's.
"Where are they?" Max asked.
They heard more growling and it sounded like the house was surrounded.
"What are they doing?" Nancy asked.
They heard a screech and then Cammie noticed something unusual. Her nose was bleeding. It didn't bleed when she used her trajectory manipulation powers anymore because she'd learnt to control them as to not give it away.
"Guys, I'm bleeding," Cammie said.
"Where?" Hopper asked.
"Nose," Mike said, looking at Cammie's bloody nose before looking back at the door again.
The window smashed open and a Demo-dog flew through it, landing on the floor. Cammie nodded at it and the knives flew into it, stabbing it.
"Is it dead?" Max asked.
Cammie pulled her hand back and the knives flew out, levitating in the air again. Hopper kicked it and nodded.
The lock on the door clicked and they all spun around. Cammie got her knives ready and she felt Max grab her hand tightly. It swung open and Cammie dropped the knives to the floor.
Eleven stood there in an all black outfit, hair slicked black and blood dripping from her nose.
"Eleven," Mike stepped forward.
"Mike," Eleven whispered.
The two hugged tightly and Cammie smiled tearfully.
"Is that..." Max trailed off.
Cammie realised she was still holding her hand, and that holding Max's hand felt incredibly natural and comforting.
"Yeah," Lucas breathed.
"I never gave up on you. I called you every night. Every night for-" Mike started.
"Three hundred, fifty three days. I heard," Eleven said.
"Why didn't you tell me you were there? That you were okay?" Mike said.
"Because I wouldn't let her," Hopper walked over and looked at Eleven. "The hell is this? Where you been?" he said.
"Where have you been?" Eleven fired back.
They sighed and hugged tightly. Cammie realised exactly what was going on.
"You had her," Cammie said.
"You've been hiding her this whole time!" Mike shoved Hopper as hard as he could but it didn't do much to hurt Hopper.
"Hey! Let's talk. Alone," Hopper steered Mike down the hallway and Will's bedroom door slammed shut.
"Sister," Eleven looked at Cammie. She smiled widely and ran to Eleven. She hugged her, burying her face in her neck. "Sister," Eleven whispered.
"Sister," Cammie whispered.
"I missed you," Eleven said.
"I missed you more. But I'm learning to control my powers. It's so cool. Look," Cammie said. She turned to the knives and waved her hand. They flew towards them and she caught them in her hand. Eleven laughed. "And watch!" Cammie said. She time jumped across the room and Eleven's eyes went wide.
"Holy shit," she said.
"I know!" Cammie laughed.
She time jumped back to Eleven and Eleven hugged her again.
"Sister," she breathed.
"Sister," Cammie kissed her cheek.
She stepped aside to let Eleven say hello to Lucas and Dustin. Once she'd said hello to them, Max approached and Cammie knew instantly this was not going to go down well.
"Eleven? Hey. Um, I'm Max. I've heard a lot about you," Max held her hand out.
Eleven stared at it and then looked at Cammie. Cammie looked back at her, unsure at why exactly Eleven was looking at her.
"El," she said.
Eleven turned and walked right passed Max, hugging Joyce. Max frowned at Cammie and she shrugged cluelessly.
"Can I see him?" Eleven said. Joyce nodded and led Eleven down to her room to see Will.
"What was that about?" Dustin said.
"I don't think she likes Max is what that was about," Lucas said.
"Why not?" Dustin said.
"She's close to Cammie. El gets jealous really easily," Lucas said.
"But El is my sister and Max is my friend. I don't think it's me she's jealous of," Cammie said.
"She's jealous of Max?" Lucas said.
"Mike and I thought she was at school the day we found Will having an episode. I got a nose bleed and I don't get them unless El uses her powers anymore. Mike was with Max when I started bleeding and Mike told me that Max fell off her board, said a magnet was pulling her off it. Eleven," Cammie said.
"Here," Lucas offered Cammie a tissue for her bloody nose.
"Thanks," Cammie mumbled, wiping the blood.
She turned to look at Max.
"I'll talk to her. She'll warm up to you. She's just protective over Mike, and me, I guess," Cammie said.
Max nodded.
"Thank you," she said.
"Sure," Cammie said.
She sighed and flopped down on the couch.
"I think I need a nap," she said.
"Have one. We'll wake you up," Dustin said.
"Okay," Cammie said, closing her eyes over.
