The Dance
Finally finished with midterms. I can get back to pumping out more chapters for all of my series. But, just as a warning, March break is right around the corner for me, so don't be surprised if there isn't many chapters during that week. But, if you're looking to read something and you're all caught up with each of my series, I can recommend a backup plan. A friend of mine, named "Haze035" on Wattpad, has started his own original series. It's called "Shatter." I recommend checking it out. It's growing pretty quickly, even faster than my RWBY or MHA series. It's kinda made me a bit jealous recently. But anyways, go check it out! And as always, enjoy!
-Time Skip: 3 Days- -Point of View: Temair-
When Drake and Amber returned from their "investigation" they looked pretty worse for wear. They were covered in scratches and bruises but they just came back, laughing it all off. I was kinda concerned for them but they said they were fine. Leena didn't seem to concerned as she told me Drake's come back from a lot worse before. That... did make me a little worried actually. But hey, i'm not one to say what they should and shouldn't do. They both recovered over the past couple days, struggling a bit in Glynda's class when we'd go out into the field. But after a few days, they both seemed to be back at 100%. And thankfully, it was at no better of a time. Tomorrow, which was Monday, teams would be signing up and going out on extracurricular missions. Drake told us that based on the info he and the others were able to find out a few days ago, there's high concentrations of White Fang activity in the southwest of Vale. It's likely that we'll be trying to find a mission that's close to that area. Only time will tell though. For now, we had to focus on the school dance that was tonight. I wasn't one for parties or dancing but Drake and Leena insisted that I go. I did end up agreeing but I was probably just going to stand around and watch everyone else. Amber wished for Drake to accompany her to the dance and he did agree, even though it seems he's one of the only people she can open up around. Leena on the other hand, was offered to be taken by Cardin Winchester. I don't know if he's crazy or just really stupid. Probably a bit of both. We were all getting prepared for the dance, me and Drake having to wear a standard uniform suit while girls had to wear their own dresses. I felt ridiculous in my outfit, but I guess i'm just used to wearing something for combat.
"Everyone good to go?" Leena asked us as she was about to bolt out of our room even though she was in high heels. "We're ready. Go find Cardin, and make sure he behaves." Drake told Leena as she took off. Me, Amber and Drake left shortly after, walking together. Amber was dressed in a beautiful yellow dress that went down to her knees. It really lit up her red hair and fox ears. It didn't take us that long to arrive at the ballroom, maybe about a ten minute walk. Yang from team RWBY greeted us at the door. Her and Weiss took over as the MC's for this dance because team CFVY(Coffee) was still away on a mission, even though they were supposed to return 2 days ago. "Oh, look at you all! So stylish!" Yang said to us. "Thanks. Did Leena show up?" Drake asked her as Yang started to laugh. "Yep! And I feel pretty bad for Cardin. I've never seen a girl lead so much before. He won't be able to walk after tonight." Yang jokingly said to us as we passed her. "Thanks you. Have a great night." I said to Yang as she waited for more students to arrive.
Drake and Amber headed to the centre of the ballroom so they could dance. I left them and headed to where everyone went if they were alone, the punch bowl. Luckily for me, I wasn't the only one there. Ruby was standing there, wearing a pretty black and red dress. "Not one for dancing too?" I asked her as I grabbed a cup of punch. "You guessed it. I saw Drake dancing with Amber. Are you here with Leena, or..." Ruby began to ask but I just started to chuckle. "No. It's just me. Leena came with Cardin. That poor soul. I'm not one for parties so I didn't come with anyone." I explained to Ruby as she started to laugh. "She's with Cardin!? What was he thinking!?" Ruby jokingly said as a third person came over to join us. It was Jaune from team JNPR. "I see you're both hiding at the punch bowl too." Jaune said as he took a cup of punch. "Yup." Me and Ruby said. "Well, I guess it can't get any worse than this. To the socially awkward." Jaune said, raising his cup for a toast. We went along with him and then just stood around, watching everyone dance. "Sorry things didn't work out with Weiss." Ruby said to Jaune. For the last week or two, Jaune had been trying to get Weiss to accompany him to the dance. And like the Ice Queen she was, she denied him with every attempt. "Meh, it's fine; Neptune's pretty cool. I get why she went with him." Jaune said as both me and Ruby became confused. "What do you mean?" I asked him. "Well, come on. Not many people can pull of blue hair." Jaune said as I just stared at him. "Oh, uh, i'm not saying yours is bad, Temair. You pull it off pretty well too." Jaune said to me as I just sighed. "No, we mean that Weiss came to the dance alone." Ruby explained as Jaune nearly spit up the punch he was drinking. "Uh, what?" Jaune asked as he looked over to Weiss. She was fixing up the bouquets around the room. "Yeah, she said she had too much to focus on to worry about boys." Ruby said as Jaune now looked over to where Neptune was. He was standing by Blake and Sun, and they all seemed to be having a good laugh. "Hold my punch." Jaune said as he handed me his drink and stormed off. However, he got side tracked when Pyrrha walked by him. He decided to follow after her instead of deal with his issue with Neptune. "What was that all about?" Ruby asked me. "No idea. Something I really don't want to get into though." I said as I took a drink of my punch.
Ruby then looked at me curiously and said "Temair, I've noticed that you don't really like to get involved in big events. Don't take this the wrong way but you remind me of Blake. Has something been bothering you?" I looked at Ruby and then around the room. "I would rather discuss where there were a little less people around. Care to go for a walk?" I asked Ruby as she took my hand. "Anything to get me out of here." She said as we finished our drinks and headed for the exit. "See ya, Yang! We're heading out for tonight!" Ruby said as Yang waved us off. We waited until we were some distance away from the ballroom before we started to talk. "Is that better?" Ruby asked me as I gave her a nod. "Okay... when I was a child, the age of 4, both of my parents died from a Grimm attack. Our town was ransacked, and barely anyone survived. My father sacrificed himself so that I could escape with another family. When we made it to safety, the family just dumped me and left me, this 4 year old boy alone in the wilderness. I walked the land for nearly a month, barely hanging on to life until I finally came to a small town. I quickly became known as a thief in this town as I ran from house to house, taking any bits of food I could get my hands on. I was so hungry. I was eventually caught, and most of the people wanted to see me burn. However, I was taken in by a kind lady. She ran an orphanage, which I learned was a home for children without a family. I lived there for most of my life, and it wasn't until another Grimm attack occurred, that I figured out what I wanted to do. During that attack, a huntress burst into our orphanage and defended us. However, she was quickly overrun and killed. Several of the younger children around me also lost their lives. I had to do something and I did. I took the now dead huntresses weapon and slayed every Grimm that tried to kill us. I kept my aim at the only entrance into the orphanage all night until the morning arrived. It wasn't until then when everyone who survived was found. Several more huntsmen and huntresses arrived and took us to safety. And that's when one of the huntsmen said to me "If you were that good at defending these young children from the Grimm, then I see a bright future for you as a huntsman as well. Go to a huntsman primary academy, learn the art of combat, and save others who are in need of saving." I took his offer and enrolled at a primary academy. For the rest of my life up until now, I kept that weapon from the huntress who tried to save me and the other children. I keep it with me as a memento, to never surrender until your last breath. All through huntsman primary school, I learned how to properly wield my weapon, use my aura, I unlocked my Semblance, and ultimately, I graduated. And as you can probably figure out, I was accepted into Beacon." I explained to Ruby as she just looked shocked. "Oh my gosh... Temair... I'm so sorry. About your family... everything really." She said as she gripped my hand a little tighter. "It's fine. Yes, I will greatly miss my family. But now I have a new one thanks to my teammates. And, if you're still wondering why I don't like to get involved very much... well... To me, it just feels like whenever others are around me, the Grimm aren't too far behind. I just want to see those who I care about safe. I just want the nightmare to be over." I explained to Ruby as we stopped walking. "Well we're here for you too." She said as I looked at her. She had a determined expression on her face and fire in her eyes. "Your teammates aren't the only ones who are here for you. It's true that we're just friends, but really, we're more than just that. We're family too. Me and my team, and even JNPR if you think about it. We all cheer each other up when we're down, we help out if someone's in need of assistance... We're just a big, awkward family." Ruby said as I started to chuckle. "Thank you, Ruby. It seems Drake isn't the only one who has a way with words." I said as she gave me a light punch on my left shoulder. "Oh stop. I'm not as good as him! I can't pull off anything threatening if I need to! He's got the size and muscles to back him up! Just look at what he did to team CRDL!" Ruby said as we both started to laugh.
We walked around for a bit longer, heading for the dorms when Ruby suddenly stopped. "Wait... I think I see someone. Over there! On the rooftop!" She said, pointing to the roof of a nearby building. She was right. Someone who was clad in black clothing and wearing a black mask was running along a roof. They jumped off on the other side, leaving our field of vision. "That's real suspicious. I think we should follow that person. They might be up to something." I said to Ruby s she agreed with me. We ran after the mysterious person, just barely keeping up as we watched them jump from roof to roof. They seemed to be heading to the CCT. When me and Ruby arrived on the scene, we saw that the armed guards that stood outside were all unconscious. "This is bad. That person broke into the CCT. We have to stop her. If they took out these guards, then they'll probably beat the ones inside too." Ruby said as we both pulled out our scrolls. We made the call to our lockers which came with an auto-locator. With it, our lockers, which held our weapons, would be launched to our locations, in case we were in any sort of danger. Our lockers landed near us and we grabbed our weapons out of them. We quickly ran into the CCT and found the same result inside, more guards unconscious on the ground. "Be on guard. We don't know where this person may be hiding." I said to Ruby as we both unsheathed our weapons. At the same time, the elevator was returning from the floor it was just on. The doors to it opened up but no one was inside. "If the elevator just got here, then this person must still be inside the CCT." I said as we both entered the elevator. "Take us to the floor you were just on." Ruby told the elevator as she scanned her scroll. We began to go up, keeping our weapons ready in case this person was waiting for us.
When we arrived, we entered onto the communications floor. We walked out f the elevator, keeping our weapons pointed around the room. Nobody else was in sight. "Hello?" Ruby called out but there was no answer. "Hello?" I tried, but again, nobody answered, and it wasn't really expected that anybody would answer us. "Is anyone there?" Ruby asked as we both walked forward. But as we had just started to walk, someone rose up from the main desk. It was a woman With long black hair, who wore a black jumpsuit, and a black mask over her face. "You know, it's not a masquerade party, so why don't you take off that-" Ruby tried to say as the woman attacked us. She swiped her right arm across her body and created several glass shards in the air. She sent them flying at us. Me and Ruby countered by shooting each piece of glass that headed towards us. I switched my weapon to its axe mode and I went in for the attack. At the same time, the woman created two swords in her hands. She blocked my attack as I swung my huge weapon down on her. Ruby took this chance the shoot at the woman's legs. However, the woman pushed me away with ease and jumped out of the way before she could get shot. She then combined her two blades into what looked like a bow and she created three arrows made out of glass. She fired them at us and I managed to block two of them and Ruby destroyed the third. "Keep her distracted. I might be able to take her down!" I said to Ruby as she nodded. Ruby went in for close combat, swinging her huge scythe around as the woman dodged each of her attacks. I took my chance to load a full magazine of gravity dust into my weapon. When it was in its axe mode, by putting in Dust, I can use an attack that benefits from the type of dust that I put into it. I had to make sure the attack hit though, as after the first attack, the entire magazine would be used up and I would have to load up another one. I loaded the gravity Dust into my weapon and the bladed end began to glow black in colour. "This person seems too fast for either of us. Ruby can't use her speed Semblance because the room is too small. I've gotta close the distance, and quick!" I said as I activated my own Semblance. I leaped and landed on the side of a wall, and then I jumped over to the next wall. I kept this up for some time, picking up speed and momentum with every jump. Eventually, I was moving so fast that Ruby was having a hard time seeing me. "Move Ruby!" I yelled as she used her weapon to propel herself backwards. I made one last jump off of a wall and launched myself at this woman. I brought my axe down with such a powerful force that it nearly broke apart the concrete floor we were standing on. A huge dust cloud appeared after I landed my attack and I could see pieces of rubble were floating up into the air, thanks to the gravity Dust. When the dust cleared though, the woman was gone. She had completely vanished into this air.
As me and Ruby were trying to figure out what happened, someone appeared from the elevator. "What's going on here?" General Ironwood of the Atlas army asked us. "It's not what you think. We were both trying to stop this weird woman. She attacked your guards that were outside and inside the CCT." Ruby tried to explain as Ironwood just looked at us both curiously. "Is that so? Because what I see is two students, wielding there weapons, destroying the communications room of the CCT. Were you having a fight or something?" He asked us as I stepped in. "Whether you want to believe us or not, what she said was the truth. And we can prove it. There's security cameras here, right? Go check them and see for yourself." I said to Ironwood as he just stared at me, an angry look in his eyes. "I will. And I want both of you to remain here until I figure out this mess." He said as he pulled out his phone to make a call. Me and Ruby sat down and put our weapons away. "He couldn't have come at a worse time." Ruby said as I leaned my head back. "I'm sure we'll be fine and get off the hook. But what as that woman doing here?" I asked myself as Ruby jumped in. "Who knows. We just have to hope she didn't get what she wanted." Ruby said as we both waited long into the night, waiting for confirmation that we could leave, and being questioned about what really happened. But even after we were let go and headed back to our rooms, neither of us stopped thinking about that woman, and what she was really doing tonight.
