Tyler
6 YEARS LATER
So, you've come here for my story?
This story is probably the only interesting thing that has ever happened in my life.
Seriously, I'm not kidding. The most exciting thing that ever happened to me was when my dad had one of his nightmares and my little sister came running in to my room because all of the screaming scared her.
I guess I should probably introduce myself.
My name's Tyler. As of last month, I'm fourteen years old. I've got short hair that most authors would call jet-black, but I don't see anything remotely "jet" about my hair. It's just black. Same goes for my eyes. I guess you could call them "piercing green" but I don't see anything "piercing" about them. They're just green.
I don't think I look all that special, and to be honest, I couldn't care less.
I have a little sister named Macey. She's not your average obnoxious ten year old. Instead, she's quiet most of the time, and likes to do nothing but scribble in this blue notebook she has. She's got red hair that goes down to her shoulders when she lets it out of her usual ponytail, and, behind her glasses, hazel eyes that normally have slightly dark circles under them because she likes to stay up late.
She's also got a pretty bad case of anxiety.
My dad's name is Sky. He's got brown hair, and he always hides his eyes behind sunglasses. He's the kind of dad who'll watch anime and cartoons with you instead of telling you to "turn off that garbage". He's more kid than adult, but he knows when he has to switch into what he calls "dad mode".
He's almost always smiling, so it might surprise you when I say that he gets nightmares like you wouldn't believe. Every other night, sometimes a few nights in a row, I get woken up by Dad screaming stuff about how it was his fault, how he's sorry, crazy stuff like that.
More than once I've heard him say names of people I've never heard of, like someone named Mitch, someone called Jerome, etc., etc., but the name I've heard the most so far is Ty. And every night he has a nightmare, without fail, Macey shows up in my room because all of the screaming scares her so bad she starts shaking like a leaf.
Macey and I don't mention the nightmares during the day, and neither does he. I'm not even sure if he remembers them...
Other than that, I would say our family is generally normal.
Well, except for The Big Rule.
Yeah. It's so important that it's capitalized.
Like every house, we have rules, like the Don't Go Outside At Night rule and the No Pretending To Be A Whale In The Bathtub rule (long story), but we also have The Big Rule.
Don't Touch The Box.
In my dad's room, there's this little iron box that sits on a shelf. I don't know what's in it, and Dad won't tell either of us, even though there have been days where we do nothing but follow him around asking.
Macey and I must have somewhere around five thousand theories about what's in it, each one crazier than the last.
My personal favorite is that he was a secret spy in the past, and all of his old stuff is in there. Macey's is that there's a bunch of pictures of our real parents that he'll give to us when we're grown up. I seriously doubt that one, because there's no possible way Dad has a picture of my real parents.
Yes, I said real parents. My real dad and my real mom died in a fire when I was really little, maybe like one or something. I don't know how, but I was outside at midnight when the fire happened. Got lucky, I guess. The entire village burned.
Dad told me that he was going to the village I lived in to buy supplies, and saw the fire from far away. He tried to put it out, but by the time he did, everyone was gone.
Everyone, except for me.
Dad took me in, and I ended up becoming his "adopted" kid.
I know absolutely nothing about my real parents, or the short year before the fire. Heck, I don't even know the name my real parents gave me. Dad had no idea what my name was when he found me, so he decided to call me Tyler.
I don't tell that story to many people, but you seem like a trustworthy person. But just so you know, one word of pity from you and I'll personally dislocate your shoulder.
I don't like- no, I hate it when people look at me and talk to me like I'm a kicked puppy or something.
Macey has her own story, but she's the one who should tell it. I guess I'll give it over to her so you can meet her.
MACEY!
---------------------------------------------------------
(This is not Macey's part, this is the end of the chapter)
Hey guys!
So, I decided I'm going to try and write this story in a different way then the Tiny Team Crafted Series, since this book is technically a different series. You know, like how the Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Heroes Of Olympus series are in the same universe, but in different series?
Anyway, instead of multiple POV's in one chapter, each chapter will be a different POV, and the title of the chapter will be who's POV it's in. For example, this chapter is titled "Tyler", so it's in Tyler's POV.
Hope you're enjoying the book!
Also, I now have a YouTube account! :D (Link is to the right)
P.S. You can leave pity comments if you want. Just make sure Tyler doesn't find out. :)
