"...did I just...do that?"

Macey sounded more terrified than I'd ever heard her before, and I'd been there when she saw a zombie for the first time. 

But she wasn't the only one scared in this situation. 

"I don't know what that was...but I think we can safely say that it was nothing good." I said, fighting to keep my voice steady, and failing. 

"Oh, Notch..." She mumbled, burying her face into her hands.

I turned away, and that's when I saw it. 

The Box, upside down on the ground, the lid open, the lock and key next to it. 

"Macey...you didn't..."

She nodded slowly, and looked up at me, tears streaking down her face. "I couldn't stop myself...I don't know what happened..." She whispered. 

I lifted the Box off of the ground, revealing a pile of emerald shards. 

"...what?" I wondered aloud, and picked one up, looking at it closer. It emitted an extremely faint glow, but it definitely was glowing. 

I had a weird feeling that the shards were a big part of my dad's past. 

"Macey, check this out." 

She wiped away a tear, and scooted closer. She stared at the broken emerald, a look of confusion written across her face. 

"I don't know why, but I get the feeling that whatever that was wants Dad dead." I said. 

"...don't sugarcoat it or anything..." She whispered, turning her gaze to the floor. 

"Sorry," I apologized. "But don't you get the same feeling?" 

She nodded slowly. "And I set it free..." 

I wanted to tell her it wasn't her fault, but in a way, it kind of was. 

I wasn't about to tell her that. 

I started putting the shards back in the Box, and I noticed something. 

The Box had the same faint, purple glow as the shards. 

"Huh." I thought aloud. "That's...interesting, I guess."

I couldn't help but wonder what made them glow like that, but I couldn't question it now. 

"What do you think it did with Jin?" Macey spoke quietly, just barely above a whisper. 

"I don't know, and to be honest, I don't want to know." My guess was that where ever Jin was, it was nowhere fun. 

Suddenly, the phone rang.*

"Who in the Nethe-Dad." I cut myself off, remembering that Dad brought a phone with him on the trip.

I raced over to the phone, and a few seconds later, Macey was standing next to me as I pressed Answer. 

Really loud wind feedback played over the phone, and I could just barely make out my dad's voice. 

"Tyler, Macey? Are you okay?"

"We're fine, Dad, but we kind of have something to tell you-"

"I know you opened the box, and Jin isn't there anymore, is he?" 

"Yeah, how'd you know?" I asked, confused. 

"I just know. Aka, he's here with me." 

"Is he okay?" I asked, grateful that Jin wasn't missing. 

"In one way, yes. In another way, no." 

"Wha-"

"Listen to me, Tyler. If he shows up at the house, don't trust him. It's not Jin anymore." 

"Dad, I'm sorry..." Macey said. "I couldn't stop myself..."

"It's okay, Macey. I shouldn't have left it with you two."

A loud crash resonated over the call, and I heard Dad curse. 

"Listen, stay in the house. Don't come after me. I don't want you two caught up in this mess." 

Over the phone, I could hear someone in the background shout, "Sky! We need to go now!"

"I know, Ty!" Dad shouted to the person, and then spoke to us again. "Remember, I love you tw-"

I heard another crash, and a smaller one, meaning the phone hit the ground. I heard the same person yell in a panicked voice, "Sky!" 

My blood ran cold, and I felt paralyzed. 

"Tyler, what's happening?" Macey asked, her voice small and terrified. 

"I...I don't know..." 

We listened, powerless to do anything, as the other person cried out, and went silent. 

Suddenly the wind feedback stopped, and a familiar voice that I couldn't place spoke in a mocking tone. 

"You want your precious Dad back?"

"Who are you?" I asked, feeling scared and angry at the same time. 

"Come and get him." The voice said, ignoring my question. 

And then the line went dead.

*Yes, I know that there are no phones in Minecraft but I couldn't figure out how to have Sky be able to contact Tyler and Macey immediately without one. 

 So I'm pretty sure most of you can guess by now what happened to Jin. 

I'm so mean, introducing him to the story and then immediately taking him away >:).
