Andrew, the high-school basketball star and Savannah, the most lovable person of the high school, were the "it" couple of Rosewood High, a place which was known to have the best kids from all over town, and known for it's idealistic image. Although that was until a party where Savannah goes missing, only leaving behind her red scarf. When months later her body is found, Andrew becomes the prime suspect in the murder trial of his dead girlfriend.

This contest was one I'd been interested in joining for a while, but I was a little unsure of entering because I was travelling abroad. Nevertheless, I managed to get a one-day extension, which I am happy for. Normally, I wouldn't ask for an extension, but this one was necessary. I'm a sucker for murder mysteries, so when I read the prompt I just had to join.

Pre-designing, I did struggle with finding resources for the different elements of the design, but then again I always do lol. (Tell me your secrets when looking for pics! The struggle is actually real) After hours of searching, I finally decided upon the setting of the cover; it would be in a narrow hedge maze where Savannah is running away from her "killer". Since the girl supposedly goes missing at a party, I decided the party should be formal-like a prom or some classy ball-seeing as Rosewood High is a prestigious school. Therefore, I chose images of the characters wearing fancy clothes. From the start, my plan for the graphic was to have a guy holding the red scarf while presenting a menacing appearance. Jungkook had the perfect posture I was looking for, but his face looked too gentle and adorable for the dark, mysterious tone I was going for. Hence, the image of the guy's face I took from Uncle Google fit perfectly in with the idea I had in mind.

The red scarf took the longest time to create. I used the perspective and puppet warp tools with at least three duplicates of the original image to shape it. Since I included the missing girl in my graphic, I decided to have the scarf wrapped around her neck, but have it unfurl as Andrews holds it in his hand. That way it links the characters together and creates a clear purpose for the scarf in the graphic. I enhanced the saturation and added some glow to make it pop out more against the dark background, and quite love the contrasting effect this has created in the cover.

In the bottom right corner, I added a light source to create more dimension within the graphic. I thought it looked a little too flat, so I feel this addition elevated the design.

Overall, considering the time constraints, I think I did fairly well. It may not be astounding compared to other graphics I've seen in the contest so far, but it's a cover I'm surely proud of. Hope you like it!
