Kits With a Destiny
Kits with a destiny: Thornpaw, Frozenpaw, and Honeypaw speak
Thornpaw: Hello... Traveler. Do you want to hear the story of a cat set from StarClan? Well... Here you are. Rainy always told me that StarClan had a special destiny. She said that when she was pregnant, she visited the moon cat, and she told her that when her firstborn became an apprentice, she was supposed to bring it to her. I was her firstborn.
Frozenpaw: I knew that my brother had some special destiny, but I never cared to learn what. That was, until I realised that I wanted a special destiny too. But instead of being mean to Thornpaw or laying around complaining about the fact that he was chosen and not me, I laid out my own destiny. I had one idea in mind: to become leader.
Honeypaw: I agreed with Frozenpaw on the fact that not only Thornpaw has a special destiny; We all do. Frozenpaw was destined to become Frozenstar, the best leader known to GreenClan. I would become the smartest, most gentle medicine cat. Liontail was growing old and needed an apprentice. Who was better for it than me?
Thornpaw: When I first met Moonlight, she scared me. She explained that a moon cat was a messenger for StarClan, like her. That was who I was destined to be: Her apprentice. She asked me to press my nose to hers so that I could enter StarClan. When I did, I was met with a whole world of cats that terrified me.
Frozenpaw: I was the strongest apprentice in GreenClan. Even stronger than my best friend, Foxpaw, even though he was older than me. My only competition was Flowerpaw, a former rogue. She was an old twolegplace rogue. But a rogue had no place in GreenClan. I did, because I was related to the great Green Eyes, the founder of GreenClan.
Honeypaw: I was quick to learn all of the herbs and their uses. Liontail said I was brilliant. Frozenpaw thought so too. It made me feel great about being a medicine cat. StarClan accepted me, and I ended up receiving my new name before any of the other apprentices: Honeydrop.
Thornpaw: StarClan told me all about moon cats. There were so many rules, like that I wasn't allowed to have kits or a mate, but that was okay. I got to have so many powers. My favorites were dream walking, speaking to StarClan and the ability to heal any wound less than a day old. Of course I was excited to become the next moon cat, who wouldn't be?
Frozenpaw: One day, Foxpaw and I decided to sneak into MudClan territory. I'm not sure what we were doing; Just stealing prey, I suppose. Perhaps just breaking the rules for the thrill. But we ended up traveling to the mooncave. There, I saw Thornpaw for the first time since he had moved away to become Moonlight's apprentice. I told him about Honeydrop's new name, and he told me what he was allowed to tell me about his training. It was wonderful to see my brother again, and I wished that he had never gone away.
Honeydrop: But here's where the story gets interesting, traveler. For the first time since I'd been given my new name, Liontail and I went to a gathering. We spoke to Winter Skies, the MudClan medicine, and Baypaw, his apprentice. Baypaw complained that she still had not received her full name when I had, despite the fact that I was much younger than her. She was the same age as my father, in fact.
Frozenpaw: At first, nothing out of the ordinary happened at the gathering. I sat with Foxpaw and Red Eyes, my uncle. We spoke briefly of the news of our clans, and then were interrupted by the yowl from the gathering tree.
Honey drop: All eyes turned to watch as the two leaders leaped up into the tree to sit on the leader's branch. Stormstar jumped up first, then Dragonstar. To everyone's horror, the MudClan leader missed the branch and slipped down the tree, his head hitting a smaller, lower branch on the way down. He slipped into the rushing water of the river with a screech of pure terror.
Frozenpaw: Stormstar leaped into the water after the other leader, his smokey grey body disappearing into the endless black waves. For a moment, both leaders were swept up by the tide. Then Stormstar appeared again, his teeth holding Dragonstar by his scruff. Both clans knew that the leader had just lost a life. Laying the leader down on the small, sandy island, Stormstar announced that the gathering was over and his warriors would be returning immediately.
Thornpaw: I knew that what happened at the gathering meant trouble. StarClan didn't reveal as much to me as they did to Moonlight, but I still knew that the clans were in great trouble. A storm was coming, and along with it would come death. I immediately knew that I had to warn Winter Skies; I visited him in a dream, warning him of a storm to come.
Frozenpaw: I sat watch with my mentor, Fallenflight, on the night that it all started. Clouds were beginning to form in the sky as a dark shape appeared. It was only Winter Skies, who came to warn us of the coming storm. He said that StarClan told him that several cats would die. As he spoke, a yowling broke out from behind me.
Honeydrop: It was Liontail. The medicine cat had been mildly sick lately, but it came as a surprise to see her so sick so soon. She was old, old enough to be Stormstar's grandmother, so I suppose it should have come as no surprise to see her go. But before I could even fetch some herbs she gave a violent jerk and died right there, leaving me feeling more lonely and empty than ever before.
Frozenpaw: But that was only the beginning. Within minutes, the storm had grown so strong that Winter Skies had to take shelter in our camp. He sat vigil with Honeydrop and Little Fox overnight.
Honeydrop: The storm did not stop. The rain began to flood our camp, filling it with murky water. Stormstar said it was only a bit of water, but it grew deeper still, and soon it was as high as my shoulders. Stormstar called for us to evacuate immediately..
