Chapter 7
The next day I found myself back in the same tree. Watching the marriage ceremony. There were too many guards, but I knew once the shot was made, everything would change and chaos would erupt. Then again when it came to the monarchy I had always rooted for chaos and ugliness. Which typically was the winner.
I waited far too long for a clear shot, but that was because I wanted to be sure that it was the perfect one. The bride and groom were almost exchanging vows. But not quite yet. I glanced down my scope and lined up the sites. I had a clear shot and I could bring an end to this tyranny with a single bullet. I took a deep breath, I had killed before, but this time was different. My blood rushed and my heart began to speed up, I took a deep breath and regained focus. I transferred my finger to the trigger and made sure the safety was off.
The bullet flew true and after that one, I aimed at a guard and got to work.
In the end, there was blood, everywhere. Guards were dead, the king was dead, crooked lords and high up officials who had done nothing but steal the money of the poor were all dead. The white roses were coated in blood. The bride's pristine pearl colored gown now had blood scattered on it. She had ran and within hours was out of the castle and on her way back to her own kingdom.
Meanwhile I continued to stay up in the tree. I watched the scene unfold from my eagle's view.
I had told the rebellion what I was going to do and most of them approved. You can't get a 100% approval rating on anything but I had always been pretty well supported. I had told them not to come and they had listened. They respected me and knew that I had to be on my mission of revenge alone and that anyone who joined me would only slow me down.
Today, today I needed to go back to the rebellion. I would meet up with Brice later but now was not the right time.
I made my way down the tree and started back to my tent. On my way there, I cut through the clearing we had meet at only to find him there.
"Artemis." Brice said.
"I have to go, my people need me." I said.
"I'm sorry that I made you do that." He said.
"It's nothing that I haven't done before. I've always had blood on my hands." I said.
"I love you."
I hugged him and he kissed my forehead. I glanced up at him, he was a bloody mess.
"I promise we will figure this out together." I said.
"Always together." He said.
"Always." I replied.
I left the clearing and I smirked. As I had hugged him I had felt something in his jacket pocket, a box shape. I knew exactly what it was, I had actually seen it before, once upon a time, a long time ago. But not today, no today was not the day, but someday. Our story was not over, then
