What's the first thing you think of when you hear the name Hannibal Lecter? You might think of a psychopathic serial killer willing to be a criminal consultant for FBI agents often looking for the worst killers out there. After all, it takes a psychopathic killer to know a psychopathic killer. Hannibal Lecter has appeared in four novels created by Thomas Harris, five live action movie adaptations (two of which are adaptations of Red Dragon), and a television series on NBC. Harris's final novel (as of 2024) brought Hannibal to his origins as we see what made this doctor become the infamous cannibal we know and love to hate, that novel being Hannibal Rising, published in 2006. Hannibal Rising was then adapted into a movie released in 2007, but unlike Silence Of The Lambs, the prequel was a box office bomb and panned by critics and fans alike. What made this prequel with such potential fail so badly? The following story you're about to read is based on a true story that occurred five years ago for me. I felt it would be appropriate to tell this story on October, the very month of Halloween as this is about the time I backed out of a fan film about John Carpenter's Halloween franchise. The now (hopefully) cancelled fan film known as Halloween Death Of Michael Myers was a project I feel nobody wanted to work on, and this is my story of why I backed out from it and why I think it was set up to fail.
