9. Oops!

Around a week passed after that practise session. Thankfully, Dillan’s back was recovered like it has never been through that harsh fall on the football field. But he wasn’t so happy about that because he thought it was a scar to his manhood that he fell in front of so many people and injured himself.

Boys I tell you, so self-conscious. They all think they are obligated by their gender to be good at physical things; even males who have complete disdain for traditional sports secretly believe that they could strike the ball like a pro and hit Home Run every time.

Meanwhile, I tried to cross path with that devil but wasn’t successful.  Why? Because I wanted to take revenge for him being an ass to me and Dillan.

I had no idea what got into his head suddenly. He never behaved like this before. He has been the guy who pushes everyone away when stuck in a problem but not like this. It’s just not him. And that doesn’t mean I think he got possessed by a demon or something. I’ve limited my amount of watching Supernatural so not much of paranormal talking anymore. Dad began to think I needed mental therapy.

Speaking of my lovely father, he has been very frequent with the phone calls and checking on me. I know he was very much worried about me as I’ve never lived so far away from home alone before but he needed to relax. He needed to take care of himself instead of taking care of his daughter. He has done a lot for me but now it was my turn to do something for him. And for that, I’ll study hard and get my degree with flying colours, making my father proud in the process.

I knew Sage would do that as well, she was a genius when it comes to her subjects. She was living quite a good life. Nice grades, loyal friends, a loving boyfriend like Zac and not to forget, an amazing sister like me! She called a several times as well and I did the same. The talks were very casual and not all about me like it’s with dad’s call. And I liked it that way.

A loud voice of the door opening grabbed my attention. To be honest, it was a very terrifying sound, like those from the horror movies. The creepy sound of the rusted door opening.

I turned my head to the door and saw Dillan standing while panting. Of course, who else would it be? I only have one friend here. Wow, so socially active of you Jade.

“What happened Dillan?” I asked, placing my Public relation textbook on the bed.

“Don’t you have college to go to?” he scolded.

I narrowed my eyes at him and spoke, “That’s it? You took this dramatic entry to scold me for not going to college?”

He gasped and spoke, “What do you mean by that young missy? Isn’t college important for you? Do you know how much sacrifices we have done to pay your tuition fees?”

I chuckled at him, and then remembered the times when he used to do the same thing with trying his motherly tone with me.

And the anger came back to me.

“Okay, I’m going to get ready mom, you go outside.” I joked, waiting for Dillan to go out.

“Why? Can’t you change in front of your mother?” he spoke like it was the easiest thing to say.

“Not when my mother’s a guy right? Now go. Shu.” I pushed him outside, followed by him closing my bedroom door, making that irritating sound again.

“Arg, this door needs oiling.” I commented.

“I’ll do it later. Now go.”

After getting dressed in a casual attire of short and a hoddie, I went to college with my one and only friend. The weather here was much better than in my hometown. Sure it was just a few hours’ drive away but the climate was yet quite warmer and it was summer so a bonus.

“Hey J?” Kacie exclaimed, swinging her arm around my shoulder.

“Yeah.”

“We, means me and May, were planning something. Like doing a sleepover so that we could get to know each other better and have a little fun.” she said with an evil smile.

“First, when was this ‘planning’ held?” I chuckled, fingering quoting ‘planning’ and then continued,”And second, why are you smiling like you have an evil plan in your head?”

“Because I know your friend lives with you as well so if we do the gathering at your place then I could vow him under my charm.” she flipped her bright hair dramatically and then chuckled.

Now that I think about it, Kacie and Dillan were a lot like each other. Both were overly dramatic and cute. To be honest, they were way too much alike, like siblings.

“Sure, tonight it is then?” I asked with a smile on my face. It would be a good distraction to hang out around the two girls, they were quite entertaining.

“What?” I yelled out at the boy standing in front of me.”You can’t do that.”

“I don’t have any other choice Jade.” he said, a hint of sadness in his tone.

I ran my fingers through my hair and sighed, thinking of a way out of this. While I was sitting in the campus’ ground and waiting for Dillan, he came to me and said that he was going to quite the football team. And the reason for doing this was Ryan. He acted like a total bully to the poor guy on that day. I knew he wasn’t the strongest guy but that didn’t mean that he was weaker than Ryan and couldn’t stand up for himself. He just had his reasons.

“But can’t you do something else?” I asked, leaning to his shoulder.

“It’s not only about Ryan Jade. I can’t risk my back again.” he informed. It was true, he had gone through a serious accident when he was a child which resulted in a few broken bones. And because of that, he have to stay cautious about himself.

I smiled and patted the back of his head to cheer him up,”Don’t worry buddy, you were to awesome for the team anyways.”

His face suddenly plastered with a grinning look,”I know.”

I chuckled at his childish behaviour and continued, “In fact, we are more awesome than that idiot named Ryan as well.”

“He may have a bigger apartment than ours but we’re still awesome.” he commented, looking in front of him.

I slowly turned by head to his direction in disbelief and spoke, “Really? After what he did to you, you are comparing your apartment with his?”

“Yeah, so?”

I kicked his leg and said,”Dumbass.”

He grinned at me and kicked my leg as well, “Weirdo.”

After completing our work in the sitting green area of the college, Dillan began to joke about what an idiot Ryan was, we laughed a lot by making fun of him, which was quite hard as I dated that guy and was pretty much crazy about him. And deep inside, I know that I still am.

I got into the basement of our building when I heard a whistle form behind me.

I turned around with my fists bailed up to punch the guy who blew the whistle. I took a step forward when I saw a teenage boy leaning on the wall and smirking at me. He was trying to look cool and confident by the whole ‘leaning’ the wall thing but looked utterly stupid because let’s face it, someone  looking like a twelve years old isn’t very attractive for the eyes of a nineteen years old girl.

“What happened baby doll? Looking for me?” he exclaimed. That was going to top the most gagging moment of my life. He was trying to flirt with someone who was almost seven years older than him? Disgusting dude.

“No, actually I was looking for your ‘mommy’ who you just lost.” I said, pressurizing on ‘mommy’.

His face fell for a second at my remark but tried his best to regain it and continued, “She would be very happy if she finds that I found just a pretty girl for myself.”

I was taken aback for a moment and realized – Damn, this guy was good with comebacks.

What should I say now? I couldn’t lose against this blond kid.

“Don’t you think you should be putting all the time you have spent in thinking of a nice comeback in studying instead?” I asked like he was a five years old and then gained my normal voice again and teased, “No wonder you’re failing all your classes.”

Hi jaw dropped on the ground and he began to shift his weight on his feet simultaneously.

“How did she know?” he whispered to himself, looking away from me.

I burst into laughter. God, his face looked priceless. Couldn’t believe my joke was right?

“Real smooth dude, real smooth. At least learn to say things at a lower volume when you’re having a comeback combat with someone.”  I commented, adding a chuckle at the end.

“Your laugh’s so addicting.” he tried to flirt again but it was too late, he destroyed his changes already.

“Leave Henry, she isn’t your type.” a familiar voice interrupted. I looked in the direction of the source of the voice and found Ashton with a huge box.

“Hey Ashton.” I waved at him with a smile.

“Hey Jade.” he returned the gesture and then looked Henry,”Now go kid.”

Henry ran away and I walked to Ashton, while he was standing next to his car filled with boxes.

“So, what’s with the boxes?” I asked, tugging my hands inside my hoddie’s pocket.

“Ryan and I are going to share an apartment so just brought my stiff here.”

“May I help?”

“Nah, its fine. Can’t let a girl carry things for me.”

“It’s fine. I’ll carry the lightest one.”

Ashton left out a deep chuckle and spoke,”You won’t give up right?”

I shook my head and Ashton continued, “Okay, then grab that one on the left side. It’s the smallest as it only have my bathroom necessities.”

Ahh, boys and their necessities.

I grabbed the box and walked with Ashton.

“So, how’s Dillan doing?” he asked, while we entered the elevator.

“Don’t you know? You’re his brother.”

“Yeah, I am but I was been quite busy with the college’s music club.”

“Really? You’re in that club?” I asked.

“Yeah, I’m the student head of it. So I have to work for long hours as we are currently working on a special project.”

“Never knew you’ll be a band geek.” I joked, stepping outside of the elevator.

Ashton chuckled and we entered his apartment or Ryan’s apartment.

Shit, how could I forget it.

I followed him inside when Ryan came outside of his room and spoke,”You’re here.”

Then our eyes met. I was about to melt again but then that incident flashed in my head again.

Oh no, no drooling this time. It’s time for a little mischief,

I began to walk to the table where Ashton was keeping his boxes but then took a step to the left so that I was near to Ryan.

Get ready to feel the pain Ryan. You hurt Dillan and broke my heart, you deserved it.

And that’s when I dropped the box on his foot on purpose.

He yelped in pain because of the sudden impact on his feet and looked at me with disbelief.

“Oops.” I giggled and ran outside of his apartment.
