Chapter two
"Where you seriously crying over a couple of lions, Meg? I thought you were braver then that." A girl with short dark brown hair with a all black outfit complete with dark makeup teased me, wrinkling her nose slightly as she laughed.
I pulled my long light brown hair into a pony tail, glowering as my face turned even more red. "Y'all are so mean, y'know?" I pressed my lips together.
"Well you kept declining us in your little world, what were you even doing in there anyways? Were you with Sean!" Fredrick poked my nose playfully, making his voice into a weird baby talk voice that just made me feel shorter then I already was.
I batted his hand away, giving him a playful shove. "No, you idiot of a friend. I was trying to relax till you pulled that little prank." I snorted giving him a pinch on the shoulder next.
"Ow! You have sharp nails!" He whined, rubbing his arm.
Awe, my friends. Fredrick Williams was a dark skinned boy with curly black hair that hung in his face, he had full lips and sparkling brown eyes. He was about six foot four, compared to my small height of five foot two, that was tall.
My other friend, the who wears all black and lives rock music is my friend Dylan Kingsworth. She had pale skin and dark blue eyes that were more beautiful then the sea. She had piercings in her lip, ears and use to have on in her nose. She had very big eyes compared to the rest of her head which made her stick out but her eyes were mostly blocked by her overgrown bands. She always wore long sleeve shirts with jeans and just grey tennis shoes, she isn't what I would call a girly girl. She was the total opposite actually.
Last but not least is me, Megan Richards. Now I'm a Tomboy right to the bones, I always wore a t-shirt and just plain blue jeans with any tennis shoes that fit my feet. My hair was never styled and I wore no makeup, yeah big mistake right? Wrong, if people can't like me for me then what are they worth, nothing. I had tan skin and hazel eyes with straight, not died light brown hair that hung down to the middle of my back.
My friends and I aren't very popular in 'school'. More like a class you watch through a computer with automated teachers telling you what these things we were learning are. We are not aloud to ask questions at all and if we fail one test on one subject, we are out into a different classroom in a snap. We never talk to one another, lunch is all served right at the table so we don't have to get up and do anything and everything we do is in one room. For exercise we just go into our virtual reality world and follow instructions set up by the government. We only really go outside to run one lap around the gym, that's it really for physical education.
After eight hours at school we come home to our identical houses that clean, make food, and pay your bills without the need for you. Some kids don't even know how to make a proper sandwich without help. Other kids don't even connect with their parents since they are off in their virtual reality by using masks that takes the mind to anywhere and anytime you want. No kids go outside, no kids really know what a pine cone is.
Know, I myself know how to do things like chores, what a pine cone is, and actually go outside time to time. But I much rather prefer my virtual reality mask, I can escape to a calmer world, a place where no one can get you. These masks look a lot like full masquerade masks that you put on and it takes you into your mind and its reality that it builds around you. It's like your own tv show or movie that you play in. Other people can come in too, you can also play games and interact with other users around the country. That's why the automated voice called me 'Player WinglessJay277' instead of Meg.
Anyways back to reality.
Fredrick ruffled my hair with a chuckle and sat in one of our chairs that would immediately adjust to the build of the person sitting in it. His shiny white teeth made his smile almost blinding to look at.
"You are so gullible, Meg. How'd you like the lion pride hunting you? That was Dylan's idea." He rose an eyebrow in question, mischief showing clear on his face.
"Yeah, and the nightmare setting around you? How was that Megpie?" Dylan added, walking over to me and wrapped a strong arm over my shoulders. I only reached her shoulders, I was the dwarf of the group.
I frown but a smile threatened to tug at the corner of my lips. "Those bloody lions killed me, dude! What were you thinkin' sending that into my mask. That was a jerky move!" I snapped playfully, sticking my tongue out.
"Had to get you back to reality somehow dude. So we decided to have fun and make you pee your pants." Dylan laughed, smiling at me. I smiled back, braces glinting slightly in the room's white light. "But it looks like we failed to scare the pee out of you." She poked my stomach before letting me go.
I rolled my eyes. "Hahaha. That's so funny I forgot to laugh."
"Buy you just did." Fred let out a overly dramatic gasp. "How dare you lie to us, Megpie! I though we were friend!"
The next second after he said that, he let out a squeak when I pushed over his chair with a grunt. "Oops, I slipped." I snorted with amusement.
Fred jumped to his feet, a kooky smile on his lips as she grabbed a pillow. "Oh, your in for it now, Megan Richards!" He then persisted to attack me with the soft object, slamming it into my back, head, stomach, and legs. I tried but failed to slap him away as I nearly collapsed from laughter.
Dylan joined it minutes later and started to tickle me. That just made me laugh harder and curl up into a ball, trying to keep them from 'torturing' me any more.
Soon they got tired and the excitement finally died down. We all sat on the floor wheezing out quiet laughs and our smiles turn lazy.
"Want to play a game with the masks?" I suggested.
