Chapter Thirteen
A few days later was the last session of the support group. There would be another one starting up for those who wanted to continue. Yoongi and Jimin talked about it for a long time before deciding that Yoongi would stop going, as he didn't feel it was needed anymore, but Jimin would continue, as he was still struggling with his bulimia.
But, for now, both boys attended the last session of this group.
"Does anybody feel as though they've gained a lot from this group?" asked Mrs. Choi.
Jimin and Yoongi looked at each other and grinned. Jimin reached over and took Yoongi's hand in his as they both nodded along with many others in the group. Mrs. Choi noticed, and she smiled approvingly at them.
"I must say I'll miss this group," she continued. "I want to say I hope I never see any of you again, as I hope you've addressed your issues and fears and come across on the other side. But of course, I'll always be here for you in the next group if you do feel the need to continue. And if you do, that's okay. Everyone deals with things differently, and it doesn't matter if it takes a little more time."
"Now," she said after her little speech was over. "Would anyone like to say anything tonight?"
A couple of people raised their hands, and one began speaking. Yoongi and Jimin were trying to concentrate on what the girl was saying, but they were both too engrossed in the feel of the other's hand in theirs. They'd never done this; held hands like this. And they both decided then and there that they liked it a great deal.
Once the session was over, the boys walked, still hand in hand, to Jimin's car. They both hopped in and Jimin began driving to Yoongi's house.
Jimin finally let go of Yoongi's hand because his own had become sweaty. He was suddenly very nervous, but didn't want to let Yoongi know he was.
"You're nervous," Yoongi said. Well, so much for that.
"How could you tell?"
"You tried to avoid it before you thought I could tell, but your hand was already sweaty."
Jimin sighed. "Sorry," he said sheepishly.
Yoongi chuckled. "It's okay. But you don't need to be nervous. I know my parents will love you."
"Yeah, the boy who treated their son like shit for years. The boy who showed up at their house late at night the first time he came over. The boy who appeared on their doorstep, demanding to be let in despite the fact that he was the reason their son was so upset that night. I'm a real winner."
Yoongi leaned over and kissed Jimin's cheek. "You are a winner," he said. "And they'll see that."
Jimin didn't say anything further. Yoongi took his hand again. "It's okay," he promised. "I'm sure I'll be just as nervous when I meet your parents.
Jimin shook his head. "You will never, under any circumstances, meet my parents. And it has nothing to do with you. It has everything to with my parents, who are egomaniacal narcissists who do nothing but judge others all day. You shouldn't ever have to meet them. They're terrible."
Yoongi watched him with wide eyes. He was surprised Jimin felt that way about his parents. It made Yoongi sad. No wonder Jimin felt he had to be perfect. It appeared his parents pushed him to think that way.
"You should just leave, then," Yoongi said. "Come live with me."
"What?" Jimin asked with a chuckle. "There's no way that could ever happen."
"Once my parents meet and get to know you, I know they'll be just as welcoming as I am. They'd let you move in. Probably not sleep in the same bed, but you know, we have an extra room."
Jimin turned his head to look at Yoongi. "Are you being serious about this?"
"Yeah," Yoongi confirmed. "My parents are very open-minded, and if they knew that someone – especially someone very important to me – was struggling, they'd want to help."
Jimin considered this as he looked back at the road. "I guess we'll just have to see what happens."
-
"Hey, mom, dad!"
"Yes?" Yoongi heard his father's voice from up the stairs.
"Can you both come down here for a few minutes, please?"
"Sure." His mother's voice came next. "Is everything alright?" she asked as she appeared at the top of the stairs.
"Yeah," Yoongi said. "I just have something to tell you."
He waited until both of his parents were seated in the living room, then he grabbed Jimin's hand again and pulled him along behind himself.
"Guys," he said to his parents. "I know you've seen him over here a couple of times already, but I wanted to formally introduce you. This is Park Jimin, my boyfriend."
His mother gasped. "Boyfriend?"
"Yep," Yoongi smiled at her.
She suddenly burst into tears. Yoongi's heart leapt into his throat. "Mom!"
"Oh, I'm sorry, Yoongi-yah. I'm just so happy for you!"
Yoongi waited until his heart rate slowed down a bit before he pulled Jimin over toward her. His mother stood and pulled Jimin into a hug. "It's so nice to meet you," she said. "I'm so glad you persisted the other night! You must've been just what Yoongi needed then."
Jimin smiled awkwardly. "Well, truthfully, I was the reason he was upset. But that's why I persisted; I wanted to make it right."
"Well, you already seem like a very determined boy who cares about our son."
Suddenly, Yoongi's father appeared behind Jimin. Jimin turned around slowly, concern flowing through every vein in his body. Would a father accept him? Mothers were one thing. Fathers were another.
A big grin spread across Yoongi's father's face. He then held out a hand, and Jimin shook it. "Thank you for being there for our boy," he said. "We've been very worried about him the past few years. We're glad he finally has someone on his side."
"Dad," Yoongi whined. "You make me sound like a loser."
"Well, not anymore, son. Now you've got Jimin!"
Yoongi sulked because his father hadn't denied he'd sounded like a loser. Everyone else laughed.
"Well, come come, sit," Yoongi's mother insisted. Yoongi and Jimin both dropped onto the couch. They took each others' hands again. Yoongi's mother cooed. Yoongi rolled his eyes, but his smile betrayed his annoyance.
"So, how did you two meet? Was it at the group?"
"Not exactly," Jimin admitted. "We've gone to school together for almost three years now."
"But we got to know each other in group," Yoongi spoke up. "It doesn't matter whatever went on at school," he said, looking into Jimin's eyes. "The important thing is that we know each other now."
"That sounds like a very mature attitude to have," Yoongi's father said. "I think you two boys will be just fine."
Yoongi smiled at Jimin, who beamed back at him.
"How long have you been dating?" Yoongi's mother asked.
"Not long," Yoongi admitted. "We just made it official the other day."
"That's so lovely. Jimin," she said, standing to head to the kitchen. "Would you like anything to drink? Tea or water?"
"Tea would be nice," Jimin said kindly. "Thank you, ma'am."
"We were just about to watch some TV," Yoongi's father said. "Would you like to join?"
"I think we're gonna go up to my room," Yoongi told him. "Jimin wants to hear some of my music and I – "
"You'll let your boyfriend hear it, but not your own parents?" his mother lamented, suddenly reappearing from the kitchen.
"Maybe someday, mom," Yoongi said. He smiled at her and she laughed.
"Well go on then. I'll bring the tea when it's ready."
Yoongi tugged on Jimin's hand and led him upstairs. When they reached his room, he quickly closed the door behind them.
"Okay," Yoongi said as he walked over to his music desk. "No laughing, alright?"
"I can't imagine why I would."
"Well, I perform all of this music," Yoongi explained. "Rapping and singing. And I dunno if my vocals are good or not."
"I'm sure they're wonderful," Jimin encouraged. "Now, let me hear them already!"
Yoongi opened his laptop and navigated to his music files. He then handed Jimin his headphones and watched nervously as Jimin sat down and listened.
After about 15 minutes, Jimin finally took the headphones off.
"Wow," he said.
"Good wow or bad wow?"
Jimin laughed. "Good wow, you idiot!"
"You mean it? You're not just saying that because you're my boyfriend, right? I can handle criticism. I mean, make it constructive, but – "
Jimin stood and took Yoongi cheeks between his hands. "Yoongi," he said. "It's fantastic."
"Yeah?"
Jimin nodded. Then they both stood there, staring into each other's eyes. Jimin leaned in and planted a kiss on Yoongi's button nose. Yoongi giggled.
"You can do better than that," he said quietly.
"Oh, can I?" Jimin asked with a chuckle. He then quickly placed his lips on Yoongi's and they kissed for the first time since the night of their first kiss. Yoongi felt his cheeks heating up as Jimin swiped his tongue across his lower lip. Yoongi allowed him entry, and sighed as he lifted his arms to place them around Jimin's neck. He held him there, never wanting the kiss to end.
"Yoongi," Jimin said quickly before Yoongi attached his lips right back onto Jimin's. Jimin laughed, an odd sound as it was around Yoongi's tongue. Jimin pulled away slightly. "Yoongi," he said, then he placed a hand on Yoongi's lips. "Let's slow down a bit, yeah?"
Yoongi grumbled, but didn't object.
"We've got all the time in the world," Jimin said.
Yoongi smiled mischievously. "I just thought we could start making up for lost time."
Jimin chuckled again. "Fair enough," he said, moving his hand out of the way. Their lips connected again, and suddenly, everything else was forgotten.
They never even noticed Yoongi's mother enter with a pot of tea and cups. She smiled at the boys before setting the items down on Yoongi's desk and quietly slipping out of the room.
"Yoongi," Jimin said quietly, taking a breath for a moment.
"Yeah?"
"Is it too early to say I love you?"
Yoongi's eyes popped open. "Uh... I-I, uh..."
Jimin's eyes opened now, too, and they met Yoongi's wide ones. "If it is, that's okay," Jimin said with a smile. "I'll say it later."
"N-No," Yoongi insisted. "Say what you want when you want."
Jimin nuzzled his nose against Yoongi's. "I love you."
Yoongi smiled, though his mind was reeling. "I love you, too."
