GHOST GIRL

__
WITHIN THE TWO hours that passed, no luck seemed to be on my side. Sitting against a stop sign at the end of a street was a way of calming myself into having the little luck I had left. Not haven't seeing Frankenstein for the past hours only made the pain in my chest heavy with ache. I couldn't bare to even think that I wouldn't be able to see my cat again. My eyes grazed along the photo of my friend, tears welling in my eyes as I thought about him.
With such a big town, he could've gone anywhere. I'll check the towns point. Yeah, more people to ask. But as I constantly looked down to the photo I couldn't help the stray tears that fell to my cheeks. Wiping them quickly, I hopped up from the ground. If you're going to find him, you can't be crying and mourning his lost. You'll find him.
Jumping onto my bike, I headed down for what seemed like the same road for the millionth time. Strolling the streets as I searched, I headed over to the side of the road. Jumping off my bike, the trees of the forest seemed to tower over me as I thought over my decisions. There's a chance he can be in here. It's a big place to search, but he couldn't have gotten that far.
As I held onto the handles of my bike, I slowly made my way into the heap of trees. Walking into an unknown area was something I needed to keep track of. But as I dug deeper and deeper with my bike in hand, I didn't recognize where I soon came to. Calling out for Frankie, I still had the small hope that I would actually find him. With the wind blowing to Earths song, the leaves on the trees danced to the wind.
This was somehow a place of comfort, for not only enjoying the silence, but sitting down and enjoying it itself. As I walked through the broken branches and bright green grass, I couldn't help but set my bike down as I took pictures of the breathtaking sight. Click after click after click after click was made as I found new spots to take pictures of. Settling them down into the basket of my bike, I once again proceeded to walk through the bustle of trees.
I thought to as if I were to find Frankie here, his coat would catch onto the leaves or dirt that rustled around here. I could imagine the small cat strolling in the grass as he enjoyed the silence and view the same as I did. A smile was brought to my lips as I thought of the little bundle of joy. I thought back to the day I got him, my father not very pleased with the adoption, but was everything to me.
Remembering the times of where he was a mere kitten brought a little spark into my heart. Slightly giggling to myself as I thought to the complaints my father had with him. Although my father had a very short temper, he did enjoy the company of him. With all the picture clear memories I thought about, I didn't seem to notice the awfully large branch within my way.
Tripping over the branch, my hands met the ground first. My bike slammed to the ground next to me, my palms burning with the contact. Heavily sighing, I slowly get up as I dust the small first smudges from the ground off of my jeans. Grasping my bike, faint voices could be heard in the distance. Stopping my actions, I closed my eyes as I listened quite carefully. No words were to be from ears length, but someone was here. People were here.
Looking around, I dragged my bike along as I slowly got closer and closer to the sound of voices. From one, came two, then from two, came three. Than from three, came to four. To me, more than two voices were heard in the distance. As I got closer and closer, their words more able to read. Going down the slight hill, I started to see movement within the trees. I hadn't even realized the river of water that flowed from my left.
The sound of the water hitting up against the rocks were soft against the murmurs of people that took place feet away from me. Quietly leaning my bike against a tree, I slowly come closer to the unknown strangers. With the soft footsteps I tried to achieve, I hid behind a fairly big tree. Looking over the big stump, a clear vision was able to be seen. Four figures had headed down near the water, walking over to a big sewer drain.
"Well would you look at that! Hey, Eddie. I dare you to touch it." One of the boys pointed over to a small pouch of grey in the tall grass, sitting quietly against the rocks as its tail swung side to side. My heart nearly leaped out my chest as I already recognized it to be Frankie. If the presence of the boys were no where to be found, my feet would already be running to my friend. But there bickering towards each other made me watch intently.
"Hell no! You don't know where thats been. It could be a stray. If it's been out this long it could have ticks. No way am I coming home to my mother screaming in my face cause I have Lyme Disease." The boy, who was a bit shorter than the others, shook his head, giving the boy with the rimmed glasses a hard glare.
A memory popped inside my mind as I realized the face. He seems very familiar to me.
"Don't be such a pussy. Here, I have a dollar."
"Richie, since when have you earned money?" The boy with a mop of curly brown hair remarked towards him, earning a snicker from the both.
"You know what, Stan. I have my ways. One in which you shouldn't be worried about."
"You guys, p-please stop. W-W-We need to get going."
I nearly fell from my stance as I quickly hid behind the trees once again. I could feel the slight tremble of my hands I tried to calm down the nerves of my stomach. Butterflies flew in the pit of my stomach, forcing my eyes to close as I reassured myself with small words. All you need to do is get your cat and that's it. No one needs to see you. No one needs to know you're here. As the friends began to make their way through, Stan and Eddie seemed to be having doubts within their friends.
As they all seemed to bicker with which plants were poison ivy, I finally found the chance to sneak through without a glimpse caught. Closer and closer I stepped, I should've known what was bound to happen. As if my eyes were only trained to the boys of the sewers, I didn't catch the planted rock in front. With a slight jump, the rock tumbled down the small hill, hitting up against the ground hard as mumbled curses escaped my mouth.
Not only did the rock do damage, but the high stick near scratched the side of my ankle. With small winces, I looked down to slightly bloodied cut. Great, just great. But as I pleaded in my mind for the sound to not cause any attention, the looks of the two boys had caught me off guard. With no extent to even worry about the sizzling pain on my ankle, or the throbbing pound of what my now bruised toe was, I felt the heat rise to my cheeks, as all I did was stand still.
"Who the hell are you?" As I now known to his name, Eddie stared deeply, as for Stan as well.
"Ed's, for the last time. You need to stop mumbling-"
Richie had already made his way out of the cave, the pressure of now eight pair of eyes making my ears warm up. "Well I'll be damned. If it isn't you again." Richie walked towards me with a hand out, smirking at the incident. Furrowing my brows, my hand met his as he shook mine fairly hard. "Richie Tozier. Jokester of the group. I also like to consider myself charming-"
"Oh don't flatter yourself. You're not that special. I don't even think you're special at all. No one does." A small smirk laid on the lips of Eddie, earning a sarcastic laugh from the charming boy.
"Monet-"
"Monet Tucker. Yeah, we know who you are."
I gave the boys a confusing look as both Eddie and Stan awkwardly directed their gaze to the ground. I urged for Richie to go on, his lips pursing at the process. "Everyone basically knows you. Did you not listen to the rumors?"
My throat clenched as I shook my head, eyes squinting as I felt the sudden urge of anger boil within me. What rumors? People actually knew of me?
"You're basically the ghost girl. Well, not really a ghost girl considering many people know of you. Most people are even scared to walk near you. Although, for my personal use, I wouldn't want to be in your-"
"D-D-Don't be an asshole, R-Richie." Bill had clamored out of the sewers, making eye contact as I slowly looked away.
I wanted to be the weak girl I was. I wanted to cry for the way people thought of me. Was I that much of a loser? "Nice to know what everyone thinks about me. Keeps my head straight," I sarcastically say, walking away from the boys as my eyes now glued to the lone cat that stared to me.
"I-I-I don't think of you like th-at. None of us d-d-do." I turned around harshly to see Bill giving Richie a glare, the boy only shrugging his shoulders. I didn't even respond to the boys as I headed down into the river, my cut slightly burning due to the lost of skin. With a small wince, I headed over to the cat that was my only priority. Picking up Frankie, all of the boys stood still while they just watched me cross back over the slippery rocks. And was that hard.
"Ghost girl got more balls than you do, Eddie!"
"S-S-Shut up, Richie!"
I didn't even wince to nickname he labeled me on, apparently just like the others kids in school. "That's my cat! He isn't very playful, if you please wouldn't touch him." I held him in close in my arms as Eddie stared at me in horror.
"H-How long has he been out here? You know, he can be carrying a tick if you're holding him that close to you." He slightly took a step back as I continued to walk towards my bike.
"If it means getting him home, it's risk I'll have to take." As I approached the way I came from, I wouldn't have stopped if it weren't for Bills yells to me.
"Wait, M-M-Monet. Because you're already h-here, did you want t-to stay for a little longer?"
I bit the inside of my cheek, Frankie slightly moving in my arms as I thought over the question. As much as my mind begged yes for the second chance I was given, I couldn't help but feel let down as I thought back to what Richie had spoken before.
"I wouldn't think people like you would hang out with a girl with a reputation like me."
"Doll, you obviously don't know us," Richie stated, his hands briskly moving around at the group and towards myself. "Welcome to the Losers Club, ghosty."
